2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Yes but if she took out the lutz she cannot perform 3F3Lo and solo 3Lo. It’s just if she gets the edge call on the lutz (e) not ! Then it will not be worth it to try the lutz. If she continues to get ! then I think she should continue to perform the lutz and F-Lo combination :)

Oh ok now I understand what you are saying. That is very true. I think that her team is experimenting with the layout right now. They are probably trying to see if the program works better with the 3Toe or 3Lo, which is smart because every point counts and Shanghai Trophy isn't as important as a GP event.

Pretty good performance by med today! The tech dropped 4 points after she skated though so I am assuming the lutz got the edge call. The spins looked strong

It was a solid performance by Zhenya. What I missed was the lightness that I felt from her during test skates. May be it was because of the camera angle.

I thought this event wasn’t serious and everyone was going to get very big scores, but they were quite harsh actually.

I think it was reported that she is or was ill; if so, that could have affected her. Perhaps my imagination, but when she took her opening pose she looked as if she were willing herself to get through the program.

She is still ill. She had high fever before Shanghai Trophy and had to sit out over one week of training. She said "I am so tired" after her SP to Orser.

Plus jet lag didn’t help but I’m sure she will deliver for the free and shangai trophy is not an important competition.

I was rather expecting some outrage over the underrotation call given how all hell broke loose recently when Shcherbakova got one in her SP at Lombardia.

Different coaches, different emotional reactions. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The call was a bit harsh but I didn't see it from the technical panel's camera angle which is why I normally don't complain about tech calls. Elisabet's lutz was clear UR in real time, closer to a downgrade really... Med's was not obvious to me. Tech panel may have had a different view.

Seems to me, that so far this season the UR calls has been increasing. Has there been any changes in the ISU rules regarding URs this year? Do they now adapt a more stricter approach?
I guess it's early days yet to fully see the effects of this, but it seems to me so far that URs are being judged more harshly. (E.g. RC Stage 1 where the judges were brutal with the URs - poor Nugumanova).

We sort of saw this last year. Early in the season, a lot of skaters were getting < calls. By Worlds, very few were. Supposedly, last year is when things got stricter but it's still inconsistent.

You’re opening the pandora box, I’ll get my popcorn ready to see you getting some ... feedback ... over your statement xD

Objectively, edge calls are easier to spot than close < calls. Really, ! should be for a flat edge and e should be for a wrong edge. To label something "unclear" when it's clear is pretty silly, and as others have said it applies to a lot of skaters. It's like how Ashley would get away sometimes with her lutz edge takeoff when it was always inside.

Well, imo the big events like Worlds Europeans 4CC and especially WTT has always been generous in judging.
