2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Shanghai Trophy is not a challenger

I've heard it somewhere before, and it's listed on ISU with the same page and everything

Both Medvyedeva and Tursynbayeva weren't 100% healthy, Trusova and Zagitova were. Jet lag shouldn't be that much of a problem to experienced skaters like Medvyedeva. Competing 'unadapted' to the time difference in her case was more difficult, but she still managed quite well during actual competition. She'd best keep it easy in pre- and post-competition obligations other than training, because then it will hit you. But she's been in these kind of situations before and knows how to handle them.

Yeah Tursynbaeva in particular had to WD Lombardia, i wasn't expecting much and yet still went away with a silver, so that's good: in general she's more a late bloomer.

You've heard it wrong. Shanghai Trophy has an ISU page because it's conducted according to the ISU regulations, that's all (Japan Open has one too). There are 10 Challengers in 2019/2020 season:

Canada - Autumn Classic
Italy - Lombardia Trophy
USA - U.S. Classic
Slovakia - Nepela Memorial
Germany - Nebelhorn Trophy
Finland - Finlandia Trophy
Belarus - Ice Star
Hong Kong - Asian Open
Poland - Warsaw Cup
Croatia - Golden Spin

I'm gonna say this, because it is relevant to Alina's and Sasha's scoring too. And it may help someone to understand the scoring system better. Jumps or TES are not only about the number of rotations in the air. There are other important indicators of a 'jumping ability'. In this scoring system, you can get the same amount of points with '4T with 0 GOE' and '3Lz with 5 GOE' for example. It is skaters personal choice which strategy they will use to score more points, base value of the elements or GOE of the elements. Both strategies are valid and rewarded in the current scoring system.

Okay thanks for the clarification, maybe i confused it with Asian Open.

Woah Alina's 3lz+3Lo was huge!!!

And her dress was really pretty, I want a close up! Hopefully Olga(??) will post it soon.

After seeing the protocols and full performance Sasha's TES makes more sense. 3 quads were quite shaky today and the loop was underrotated. GOE for 3 lutz could have been higher but that's pretty much it.

You can say what you want but giving +0 for clean quads is downright criminal and blatant sabotage. Maybe they didn't have perfect textbook landings - but they were huge and confident. Any man with quads of the same quality and height would get at least +2 - and we all know this :sarcasm:

I really disliked the dress. Was it just me or did it look heavy on Alina? And to clarify before getting ripped apart, NOT saying Alina looked heavy in any way, but the actual material of the dress looked heavy and cumbersome.

Yes - this! And also spins, step sequences and choreo sequences. GOE can make quite a difference.

The moral of the Japan Open is that the judging system should reward more the ultra C elements, the risk the skaters take, including for their health, because this is what brings progress and innovation to figure skating.
Today, Sasha jumped 4 fully rotated quads and Rika 2 fully rotated triple Axel. I dont feel that their efforts and risks were rewarded at all.
The quads were not all perfect but this is a huge step forward, a step for progress. And in time we will see better quads and better programs in the same time. But if this progress is not rewarded, the skaters would feel to stop to a 3lz 3lo content as they can achieve high scores with that as well, dont they?

I understand your point but when it comes to Rika, she might have two triple axels but she also took out two triple lutzes today (I think she recently had an ankle injury, so she stopped doing them). So her jump BV ended up level with Alina's. With the fall on her 3Lo she ended up behind Alina in TES. That's why Rika wasn't rewarded today. I'm sure she will be rewarded later in the season when she has all her jumps back.

And 67 in PCS, really?
