2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

interestingly, i could only find 1 comment from Alina on his instagram in the last 30 weeks or so, which only said "smile." yeah, real disappointing.

but regardless, let's all stop feeding the troll. how do we really think Aliona will do this weekend?

I hope Kostornaia has a clean skate but I don't expect her to beat Liza if she is also clean. The two Russian ladies will certainly be one and two though, I can't see anyone else getting in the mix.

That's an interesting anticipation. I hope she does well and boost her confidence for the difficult season ahead. Tomorrow the official practices star maybe some videos will come up to have a better picture of her current condition. Judging by the test skates she will fight with Liza for the win. If she scores more than 215-20 total, I think it will be a good start.

I'm wondering about this too. Last year she was getting big GOEs and components that almost helped her to beat Anna and Sasha, despite their TES, she was always receiving total marks that were quite close to theirs.
But scores of both were kind of deflating on their senior events, compared to their junior days, so I'm wondering whether the judges will deflate some of Aliona's scores as well?
As a junior she was getting +5 goe on her 2A across the board (deservedly!) and components that even then were matching some seasoned seniors. I certainly expected that marks for all 3 would increase as soon as they go senior, considering all improved a lot, but now I'm trying to hold back my expectations... I just hope she won't lose to anyone in components in Finlandia. :sad4:

honestly, she deserves and has always deserved such high components- no, she doesn't have senior "reputation" yet, but the girl skates like she's a veteran. all i can hope for is fair scoring across the board- she should be miles ahead of Liza in all areas of PCS, but will it happen that way? most likely not, and if it does, the gap will be too close.

Im very curious about Alena's components. Imho, that will be very insightful about the rusfed plans for this season.

You know what I like most from Alina's posts.... her comments to Kirill Kaprizov's pictures :laugh::laugh::biggrin:
It proves the best her loving nature :laugh2:

I haven't heard his name since the Olympics. You mean a year-and-a-half later that guy is your favorite Russian gold medalist from 2018 and not Alina? Lol! But I think I recall a year-and-a-half ago that you did not like Alina showing an interest in this guy on social media. Correct? Checkmate for moi. ;)

Imagine if Alena brings back her beautiful 3A at this competition (doubt it cuz' of her injury but one can dream), it would be battle of the 3A

What the h*ll does Rusfed have to do with it? This should be between Alena and Eteri. Hoping she has a wonderful debut season because the sport needs her beautiful artistic and musical skating more than ever before. So few can do what Alena does and then to do it at her level is wonderful. :) Of course I'm hoping she adds a triple axel next season when she's through puberty and her leg that was injured six months ago is back to 100%. She probably will never get to five feet tall and 90 pounds and her competitive career so she will be able to pull off triple axles and quads in the future. Size matters so much in figure skating. Small size that is. ;)

Thank heavens her senior debut is almost here. For those of us who prefer artistry and musicality Alena is the go-to girl at this point.

I'm with you but I'm trying to be realistic let her perfector programs this year did comfortable as a senior and then bring in the tougher jumps next season. Alena won't be falling as much as those who do the tougher higher risk jumps so she can solidify her skating this season.

To see the competition between Alena and Lisa in Finland will be an interesting moment. Lombardy and Nepela showed that the panel of judges is ready to restrain both the TES and the PC for new older girls. Japan (although this is certainly not indicative) made it possible to see that the judges can do whatever they want with them. It is interesting how judges will evaluate Alena in the rivalry with the more technically strong, but inferior in the PC rival Lisa. Lisa recently received 36 PCs in the St. Petersburg Cup. In Lombardy was 31. Finland is very close to St. Petersburg. Maybe this will help?

Please don't hold back, we know who you're trying to pinpoint here. Here you are defending one person but you don't hesitate to annoy other fans on the other hand.

Than you (everybody who is hiding behind the pronoun "we") know something about me that even I don't know.

Beautifully said..

When those others will say that and primarily when their gratitude and respect will be incessantly and repeatedly challenged by persons similar to our madison, then I will certainly appreciate your point as it deserves.

Good to know, I guess? Idk why you seem to like insinuating that this only happens to Alina. If that’s not what you mean to say, then I guess I‘ll apologize but it certainly does come across like that. All I was saying was that none of the girls deserve constant questioning of their character and that each of them deserves to be defended in that case. I have seen things happen to girls in here that were similar and seemingly (universally) accepted which is why I pointed this out. And no, I didn’t only mean my avatar lady here, even though I certainly can’t deny that I had her in mind too, but some of the less popular ones that don’t necessarily have a crowd of fans rushing to their defense.

The point of my whole involvement in this affair had nothing to do with any skater, coach or any other living or dead person on the ground, in the air or under the water incl. the crew of the yellow submarine but Alina and her rebuking, to which I answered by quotes disproving the claims. This didn't change and still don't desire to bring any other name into it in any way. So if you don't have anything else in mind... :coffee:

Yep. Sure.

Let‘s move on then. Because people were talking about Aliona‘s scoring potential. I do think that she shouldn’t lose any points from last season on GOE and PCS unless she makes mistakes. On the contrary, some of her jumps have gotten even better. However, I am a bit worried on how the judges will perceive her programs. Imo, her FS is still not the best program for a senior debut, feels too much like an exhibition and the music cuts are rather abrupt. (Makes me wonder if that was done on purpose to include that costume change....) She repeats her SP and no one‘s ever gotten less points because of that. I actually think this will help her because it‘s already a very polished program. But she did have a month of uninterrupted training now so I hope she‘ll have worked to perfect the details. All in all, I‘d personally rank her above Liza (what a surprise  ) because she‘s just a better quality skater. But if Liza lands her 3As, that will be quite difficult. Will definitely be interesting to see.

Edit: Another interesting thing will be whether Liza has upgraded her jump layout. The way it was at Lombardia she had three 3As but still lost a bit due to the lack of 3-3s in the FS.

Apart from skaters and their personal training strategies, program choices and whatever else, Rusfed has their own agenda and strategy for the season. Which is reasonable and expected. I mean, it would be a bad fed if they didn't. Same for ISU and other feds.

For example, I am curious to see how she will be scored in PCs and so on. Will she be held up and propped? Will she be lowballed? How her scores will look compared to Trusova / Scherbakova? And compared to Liza?
