2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Doesn't an athlete have to deliver the needed results to get the funding to stay on the national selection? I cannot imagine FFKKR overlooking Konstantinova's unreliability under pressure, while there indeed are new promising young seniors next season?
If the state funding only allows 7 skaters, the poorest performing athlete will be dropped. I think Samodurova will be given a pass when she does well in her next GP qualifier. And of course, the decisive moment will be the National Championships.

They might have supported her above others before and Stanislava did get a GP podium last season...but not now, her season is a disaster so far and I don't see her being able to redeem it. This isn't just inconsistency anymore

That's a very serious accusation you are making against gymnasts and their coaches

That actually used to happen quite often back in the days, with Rozalia Galieva at the 1992 Olympics being the most prominent case: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rozalia_Galiyeva

However, before the all-around, coach Alexander Alexandrov pulled Galiyeva from the competition, citing a knee injury. Her replacement was teammate Tatiana Gutsu. Although Gutsu had fallen from the balance beam in the team finals, she was renowned for her extreme difficulty and the reigning European all-around champion and a Worlds medalist on beam, vault and bars. It was later revealed that Galiyeva's injury was non-existent, and that the substitution was made because Gutsu was considered to have better medal-winning potential.

Well it was smart for Sasha to change loop to toe (the BV difference isn't even that big), but I still miss it as it was probably the best combo in the field.
She did it after a direct order of her coaches. The change happened today morning after the practice.

Huge congratulations to Zhenya. Today in practice, she was breathing a little heavily. I hope she has enough power tomorrow. She really needs a podium. Good luck.

Sasha’s smile before skating costs a million dollars.

I liked the mood of Bell after the fall, she is generally well done. But the nerves .. I hope she will gather all her will into a fist and show us the real American desire for victory. But today for me she was number 5. After Paganini and Ryabova. I value Skating without crashes at the same TES more than components.

It's always nice to look at Stasya.
Beautiful programs, dresses and she is very beautiful too.

But .. Vika from CSKA and the Federation relies on Davydov as a promising coach. If Vika skates well at the JGPF, then she will get 100% at least one place next year. But I think she should get two. Konstantinova maximum will receive one stage. This is if she includes her famous administrative resource.

So happy to see Evgenia in the lead after the SP. The long will be a big test as the quadsters unleash their big jumps. Good Luck Diva.

If the state funding only allows 7 skaters, the poorest performing athlete will be dropped. It would be good to set them a benchmark scoring potential of 220 points or something. I think Samodurova will be given a pass when she does well in her next GP qualifier. And of course, the decisive moment will be the National Championships.

RusFed have been overlooking her unreliability for the last 3 seasons. She is really a good skater and has all the potential to be a skater on level with Medvedeva but she only skates clean about once per season, at RusNats which guarantees her funding and a place at big comps. Therefore she has good WS and will probably get at least one GP this way next season and maybe like this year host pick at rostelecom(?)

I dont dislike her as a skater. I was thinking today that she actually is verry good (in between the mistakes) but in continues to confuse me why RusFed continues to support her and give her so many oppurtunities when she has never delivered at any of them...

They will lose their spots anyway if they keep skating like this so why bother acting and faking injuries or force retiring?

As beloved as Stasya is in Russia, as we saw last season with Sotskova with that many mistakes not even inflation can save you.

Let the competition decide who's worthy of getting spots and who's not
what's all this about faking injuries and stuff? Who?

The Russian Federation is too political and corrupt to let the competition decide who's worthy of getting these incredibly valuable spots. Or maybe they just care about 4A and Zhenya and everyone else is irrelevant to them.

There are too many talented skaters coming up they cannot hold up some of the skaters anymore and award them Grand Prix spots for what they did. they pick and choose who gets Grand Prix spots on who they like and they use the rules like World standing or season's best when it's convenient to them in the Russian Federation. I like them all but they keep giving valuable Grand prix spots to skaters they know will not perform in the clutch. Like I said they can't afford to do that anymore there are too many girls coming most of whom have never really had a real chance.

So the end justifies the means? Nope, I don't agree.

In Russia it does. But I'm with you Bee. Other countries have done this as well especially from the Eastern Bloc. Athletes suddenly getting injured and getting replaced is happens a lot years and years ago.

How much is she in the lead by? people have been saying she's been great in practice this week. I'm pleased she was able to transfer a great practice into the short program. now she needs to do it one more time in the free skate it's a lot to ask but she can do it.

By a little bit than 2 points is she leading before Sasha.

LOL! I don't think you read my post properly Scott. The ones clear for RusNats from Russian Cup qualifying rounds are Tsibinova, Nugumanova, Gubanova and Talalaykina.
Vasilieva is also clear as she has already qualyfied through JGPF.
Frolova needs to skate the final Stage 5.

Exactly!

Stasya is hurting and I feel bad. She's such a beautiful girl and her skating is beautiful but she could rarely perform in the clutchand has been given the benefit of the doubt for a couple years by the Russian Federation. I can only surmise that those days are over.

On a side note other than Bradie the tall lady figure skaters are bombing. Stasya Masha and Polina for instance could not handle the changes in ladies figure skating the last year or two. It's unfortunate and as I've said many times this is sports and this is life.

Agreed on everything, I'm only sad for Stasya. I was truly hoping that the last season was a breakpoint for her and that her consistency will only grow, but there are troubles again :(

I don't think I've ever seen something as magnificent as Zhenya skating today. Simply stunning. It was like an otherworldly experience.

Team Tutberitze making the best strategies as always, good on them for changing Sasha's combo like they did at jWorlds, especially with all the < calls there have been these last few weeks.

Trusova doesn't under-rotate her 3Lz-3Lo combo so this change doesn't have to do with under-rotations in previous GPs.
