2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

That's what I said too, send 3 skaters to euros and than the a others to worlds, that would be amazing but probably will not be happening

This is actually the road to hell. After winning the euro there will be many screams, a lot of politics and again the Cup final. Nobody needs this, in fact, except for the fans of these skaters.

I don't find it amazing at all. This is not something we have to see from the perspective of the audience, fan, spectator, but from athletes. If someone wins let's say his nationals then he wants to be in the national team, it's the right thing, it's well deserved and I don't see why he should be refused from the opportunity to represent his country in all events. Europeans are not a minor event. If he doesn't want to participate fine, go with the next in line, but if he wants there is no question for me.

Seems like they may just skip Euros. RusNats is much more nuts than any Euros. Rest of the Europe is not catching (for now).

ISU should discuss with RusFed a possibility to send some top European ladies to spend a month in the Crustal Dome (Just remember what Shoma Uno said few weeks ago: the English is mandatory).
I presume European Feds could pay a month of coaching? 2-3 weeks? A week?

To make EC female tournament somehow meaningful the overall level must be raised. Otherwise, it's a match Japan-Russia and nobody's watching the European Championship.

Sofia Samodelkina was amazing! A well-deserved win!

She was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJKDwun6a8s , and came back after yesterday's not so good skating run. Sof'ya is already trying more sophisticated images and artistism, getting herself ready for next season in the Juniors. Same for Sof'ya Muravyova, who also has a more artistic, less childish, program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Xe3C_Nnvdo

Maya Khromykh struggled with her new quad Salchow, but will learn to master it.

Yes, and Sonya Samodelkina with 3A is interesting to see.

She landed them and won

Maya Khromykh's 4S attempt was a downgraded fall, looked painful.
She also fell on a 3L, she finished 3rd.

I like Khromykh, she has the ability but hasn't shown much consistency this season, she struggles in competition despite looking so good in practice

It’s crazy that Bradie is going to the gpf instead of Evgenia. They are worlds apart with scoring and honestly Bradie is bringing a knife to a gun fight here.
It’s not crazy. Bradie had two good competitions and Evgenia had only one. I expect Evgenia would beat Bradie if they both skated cleanly, although they are approximately compatible in terms of scoring. IMO Evgenia has more muscled jumps and poorer technique, but probably better artistry and a better reputation and story, which count for something.

Based on the junior cup events, is this the list of those who have qualified to junior nationals?

1. Valieva (JGP)
2. Usacheva (JGP)
3. Kromykh (JGP)
4. Sinitsyna (JGP)
5. Frolova (JGP)
6. Tarakanova (JGP)
7. Vasilieva (JGP)
8. Akatieva (1+1)

There should be an official ranking list, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

Osokina, Gorbachyova, Ryabinina, Zakharova IMO fully deserved, they were the standouts from the stages. But of course every contestant that made the finals is deserving of her start :-)

Are you European?
Anyway, in the last 10 years we had only two Russian podium sweep, the last in 2016.
As for the audience, in Europe almost nobody is aware of the EXISTENCE of the Grand Prix, only the fans of figure skating, while everyone knows the European championships, as well the world championships and the Olympics.

I’m crying for Sofia Muravyeva. She’s my favorite out of the novices this season. But Jr RusNats will be a difficult battle. You’ve got Valieva and Sinitsyna (speaking of which why did she withdraw from Stage 5) and also the new generation of novices who can do the ultra-c elements and also have good basics.

A few interesting things to note.

Elizaveta Osokina(2nd overall, 5th in SP, 2nd in FS) - She trains in Kazan and if she doesn't move she could end up being the first skater in a very long time that doesn't train in Moscow or St Petersberg. It would be nice if figure skating became less centralized in Russia. I recently heard I think that Volosozhar/Trankov want to setup a school in Moscow which I find kind of sad since they used to have a school in Sochi. Tsurskaya(who is from a region in Siberia IIRC) is coaching in Vladivostok right now. https://www.instagram.com/csp_tsurskaya_team/

Alina Gorbacheva(4th, 4th, 4th) - Her assistant coach is Alexandra Proklova

Maria Zakharova(6th, 12th, 3rd) - Her mother is Anna Tsareva(Pogorilaya's old coach)

Tarakanova, Sakhanovich and Shulskaya are the top three in the just concluded 5th qualification stage to the Russian Cup.

Tarakanova skated cautiously but clean, Sakhanovich had two falls. Shulskaya was the revelation for me in this final qualification stage.

Nastya T skated clean and beat Sima, who I still don't understand why she was even there? Sima had a near fall and a nasty hard fall...she has her knee taped up, is she injured? I am scratching my head with this one, I thought she already qualified?

Anna F was 4th fell on both her 3Lz

Shulskaya was great!!

If my calculations are correct, these are the six ladies that quailify to RusNats:

1. Ksenia Tsibinova (1+1)
2. Anastasia Tarakanova (1+2)
3. Elizaveta Nugumanova (1+3)
4. Anastasia Gubanova (2+3)
5. Anna Frolova (2+4)
6. Valeria Shulskaya (3+4) (367.93 points)
-------------------
Just missed out:
7. Maria Talalaykina (3+4) (362.20 points)
8. Anastasia Gulyakova (3+5)
9. Anna Sidorova (4+5)
10. Anastasia Gracheva (5+6)

I'm not sure how the tie-breakers work, but it seems Shulskaya is in and Talalaykina is out!

I've never seen her before and must say she was a highlight of today's junior competition for me. Great jumps, Polina Tzurskaya alike

She is training in Moscow in CSKA. She is with Buyanova now (starting this summer).

This could either be a redemption for Buyanova or yet another skater ruined by her.....
She doesn't have any other skaters at the moment, right? Since Polya, Nastya, Masha left(and Elena too? On the other hand, does anyone really know what that girl is up to? [emoji23])

She has Danielian, i suspect she may get Vasilieva.

Redemption? eh i don't think her style of coaching will change, she is a finishing coach anyway, the kind of coach you go to to adjust things and not necessarily to learn basics. There are good coaches at the novice level at CSKA still and they can still pick from a large pool.

The 3A will help her to stay in the mix, and that's probably what Buyanova wants, someone they can pick and can stay relevant on the Olympic season so that + the big home advantage CSKA still gets, that's enough for a ticket to the Olympics.

I don't want to sound too harsh, i like what they do artistically, they work on skating skills, posture,... on the technical side of things, they should pay more attention to the details, like making sure the jumps are really fully rotated.

Lena is coaching kids afaik, she seems determined to become a coach, she'll get her chance at some point in the future.

Only two sweeps...
Send any three of 4A and here is another.
I see no benefits for TUT girls in participating for EC. Ok, ISU may be completely unhappy, but RusFed should think twice, IMHO.
Let others to try...
