2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

OTOH, one might wonder why she's even out there. Rushing back from a serious injury might not be the best decision for her health.

We don’t know whether she’s „rushing back“ from it though. Perhaps she’s recovered, per her own words she’s feeling well, but I suppose due to the fact that she hasn’t been on the ice long enough, only a few weeks, she didn’t manage to get her quad back just yet.

The discussion about whether or not to discuss Alysa has been taking up way more space than the original discussion about Alysa in the first place lol. So can we stop it as well, since it's not realted to Russian Ladies either? Or take it to PMs?

I asked a simple question, right? Why are you discussing Alysa in the context of her confrontation with Russian girls here, and not in the American thread?
You are discussing exactly about Alysa, she is the subject of your reasoning (and Russian girls are just some force that opposes her). Okey it's your right, i don't argue with that. But for me it's obvious that in this case the discussion should go in the American thread. It amazes me how you can not understand such a simple idea.

I simply stated she had the advantage in the SP with her 3A-3T combo and I felt she deserves the lead. But that I really wanted Kamila to win.

I am at this point far more concerned that Kamila is even competing, even without quads.

Alysa is direct competition to the Russians just as they are to her and I see no issue. She's currently leading the SP, are we to ignore that and pretend she's not there? Are you going to go complain about anyone who mentions Russians in the US ladies thread?

In fact someone mentioned Alina over in the US thread today, and nobody is complaining about it.

Her speed across the ice is phenomenal.

I love Viktoria's skating, I think she is underscored...she hasn't quite got the performance quality of the Eteri girls or Kseniia, but she's improving and she's got a different style. She's a powerhouse rather than a soft skater.

If a certain group of users would come there and start a lot of detailed discussion of a specific Russian figure skater using American figure skaters as an excuse, then yes, I would be against that. Also, this thread is not the place for a detailed discussion of the American skater.
We walk in circles, I finished talking on this topic.

Chris and Ted discussing judging, aka "it's a tough job, stop complaining people"
first 2 minutes are about junior ladies, I wonder if they were reading this thread
They said it was spot on! Agree and disagree....I mean, I sort of can agree with the point of the way the skaters were ranked in each component, I'd say they were ranked more or less correctly, I can make a point on why it was the way it was. However, I disagree with the range of scoring, the differentiation was ranging from minimal to non-existent, and I do believe the difference in components was quite big in reality, imo.

There was no detailed discussion, just a few comments.

Like it or not the Russian girls are not the only ones at the GPF and some mentions of non-Russians is inevitable and is related to the topic.

I'm very interested to see if any of our Russian girls can beat Alysa, especially now Kamila has stated she will not be doing quads.

I think Darya, Kseniia and Kamila should be ahead definitely in PCS and skating clean any one of them can score high enough to win. Kseniia's best score this season is very high, without big tricks like triple Axels or quads.

I'd love to see Viktoria make the podium, but I'm not sure she can.

Still..Anything can happen, the scores are pretty close between all six ladies. One mistake could prove crucial to making the podium or not.

I guess it is almost like 6.0 where technically speaking the score mattered less than the ordinals which determined where the skater placed.

I agree with the order of the SP, all the scores are very close still, it's not the worst judging we've seen recently. They got enough right.

I'm not that sure about it now... I have a feeling PCS again are going to be super close.

Everyone performed very well, all 6 of them, some have improved a lot too (mentioning no names or nationalities). It was a great SP, with very few errors made. Very impressive when you consider how young these girls are and the pressure they are under.

I hope viktoria (sp?) vasilieva is ok and hasn’t been getting any more rude talk about her weight. I noticed in yesterday’s sp that she is indeed a bit more developed than the others, but she’s 16! I hope she is healthy.

Also, has she been training more difficult jumps in practice, or is she waiting for puberty to pass so she doesn’t injure herself? I never hear anything about her practice sessions.

Wow some people are just disgusting, she looks in great shape to me! She's a little older than the others, and has a different build.
Why people feel the need to insult ANYONE for their size, no matter what their size is...well, it's just incredibly SAD.

The funny thing is nobody is discussing pre-pubescent girl skaters jumping triksels and quads or having eating disorders in the US Ladies chat.

Apparently there is no such concern over US skaters, only over Russian skaters (and mostly by US posters).
Same on another site and the other US based boards ...

Is it some kind of cultural bias against perfectly healthy Russian skaters?

It’s important that was great shape not "for you", but for sports. Sport is not a place of tolerance. If someone is overweight, you need to talk about this directly without this miserable hypocrisy of tolerance.

Gosh, I hope PC principal don't come for me

I am not against mentioning Alysa here or Alina in US ladies thread as long as it is in reasonable amount and respectful for everyone, skaters and users.

This is how Gubanova must feel too. but for some girls puberty is harder for them than others.

no question there is some kind of cultural bias against the Russians. Every time I hear nasty comments about the Russian girls being too skinny or whatever I think of Gabby and Gracie. :(

PC police are coming for you. ;)

Agreed.

.

The difference is that both Gracie and Gabby have admitted they suffer from eating disorders and are working to overcome them.

The same can only be said for Yulia of the Russian team.

Eating disorders are a problem elsewhere too, without mentioning names there are prominent non-Russian skaters who have suffered from them.

I see a lot of "concern" over Anna Shcherbakova, because she's "super skinny" which I don't see is a problem if that is her natural figure at this point and that she is healthy.

Viktoria Vasilieva is NOT overweight, and sport SHOULD be a place of tolerance, at least up to a point.
