2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Viktoria Vasilieva is NOT overweight

And I didn’t say that. But if someone makes such a statement, you need to ask him to justify his words or bring own counterargument.

and sport SHOULD be a place of tolerance, at least up to a point.

If this means that you don’t need to be a h...r who says unpleasant things just because he gets perverted satisfaction from it, then I agree with this definition of “tolerance”.
But gravity is not tolerant. And if someone is too heavy for jumping due to poor shape - you need to talk about this directly.

As expected, Ksenia Tsibinova won juniors in Zagreb. 186.64. 25 points ahead of Starr Andrews.

The seniors are skating now.

It is sad, that a 16 year old figure skater is receiving rude and nasty comments about her body shape. It is completely unacceptable and the same applies to anyone criticising other skaters for being "too skinny"

Vasilieva is clearly not in poor shape, is jumping very well and just got an SB on her SP in the JGPF.

I don't understand the "And if someone is too heavy for jumping due to poor shape - you need to talk about this directly" comment as it obviously does not apply here and did not need to be made AT ALL

The difference is that both Gracie and Gabby have admitted they suffer from eating disorders and are working to overcome them.

The same can only be said for Yulia of the Russian team.
and Gracie and Gabby were not skinny to begin with which made their eating disorders even more surprising. And therein lies the problem because they knew they had to lose weight and get lighter and thinner in order to compete with the top technical elements in recent years.

Eating disorders are a problem elsewhere too, without mentioning names there are prominent non-Russian skaters who have suffered from them.

I see a lot of "concern" over Anna Shcherbakova, because she's "super skinny" which I don't see is a problem if that is her natural figure at this point and that she is healthy.

I think Anna is naturally thin like Zhenya was at 15.

I'm so annoyed there's no livestream. I was really hoping to watch Liza

Not even fan videos from the stands? Are there even fans of certain skaters amongst the spectators at all, one thinks?

I love Viktoria's skating, I think she is underscored...she hasn't quite got the performance quality of the Eteri girls or Kseniia, but she's improving and she's got a different style. She's a powerhouse rather than a soft skater.

i do too. She reminds me of Osmond, strong powerful jumps. Maybe even reminds me a bit of Tonya Harding. Last year at Russian nationals I was blown away by her....She has all kinds of talent.

There's definitely a hint of Tonya there,which isn't a bad thing IMO

Congratulations to Kamila and Daria for their medals! Team Tutberidze is looking strong here!

And Ksenia and Viktoria had good showings as well, despite not making the podium.

I think a lot of people saw Kamila winning the JGPF, but if anyone predicted Kamila winning the JGPF with zero quads, then hats off to you!

The technical panel rememebered to check the full rotation on the jumps in the free and that made the difference for Valieva and Liu.

Valieva and the team were smart on choosing to leave the quads out considering the injury.

I think Daria's score in the free should have been closer to Sinitsyna and Haein Lee.

So upset with Ksenia's PCS :furious: what happened, not the marks I expected at all in both programs...:ohwell:
Happy for Kamila and Daria, good job girls! Kamila, what a hero!
Little Kamila looked so happy and excited, she looked like she didn't expect to win herself!

It was the right result.

Kamila was lovely, she didn't need the quads in the end.
Daria held on but not as good as her SP.
Alysa went for everything at least, it just wasn't her night, too many mistakes, she handed the gold to Kamila here.
Kseniia...she seemed off, whether it's nerves or what she lacked spark here, was tight and tentative.
Viktoria, again I really really like her, she did very well.

I'll be the first to admit I am very upset my favorite didn't win but Kamila's stunned face on the couch was adorable and softened the blow somewhat.

Congratulations to her. It was the right result.

Well, Eteri doesn't possess a magic, Eteri is the magic. Zero quads against four ultra-c elements, not the best result after SP and still victory. Congrats to Kamila.
