2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Looks more like this RusNats will answer the question who is to be sacrificed among 4A? One is down, and at least one more on the way.

Even if we see the 3A left are the best skaters for now the probability to see all three on WC is close to zero. The unlucky one will go to EC. Most likely it will be Sasha, if finished below the 1st. Sorry for her.

I highly doubt the Russian Fed would leave the girl who has four quads and a triple axel off of the world team. Sure Sasha hasn’t done two clean programs yet this season, but she is doing the hardest content ever for the ladies and deserves to be cut some slack. As long as the 3A perform like they have been I don’t think any of them will be left off of the team.

Agree. And even if the 3A don't sweep here, I'm betting it will be them anyway at Worlds.

Looks like the better Sasha performes the less happier people-in-charge become. The very idea of multiquad program done properly ruines so many dreams.
Just a year ago a two-quad program was considered a multiquad, a wonder. Today even best Scherbakova's, Kihira's and Liu's efforts may be not enough.

I see a young & driven competitor. Patterning her push for the top in similar fashion to Nathan. (Ditto for Alysa). Pushing & pushing those technical jumps now when Trusova can learn them and not stopping just because she has enough to win. Challenging herself to reach her own technical limits.

I think she could certainly improve her second mark & performance ability, but I think the current approach works. Each year she tries something harder and by the end of the season, she has it. I do think her team is missing a great opportunity to bring the bubbly personality I see in the kiss & cry into her programs. Think that would be all it took for so many more fans to fall in love with her as a skater. But I think there is certainly potential for growth in performance in the future, and major kudos to the young lady for breaking boundaries and challenging herself.

Gorshkov: "EC team to be formed among those who will be at 1st/2nd/3rd place of RusNats. Period."

He weas polite enough not to mention WC Team.

"- The Federation and I personally try to adhere to the sporting principle as much as possible. It is assumed that the third place in the team is determined through the recommendation of the coaching council, the executive committee may not agree, but we trust the council, as a rule. What is this retreat made for? Athletes are living people, there can fall ill, get injured.
If there is a clear leader and he cannot take part, the coaching council will consider the situation. So far we have no such proposals. In recent years, everything has been by the sporting principle. Three winners of the Russian championship will go to the European Championship."

Of course it's Europeans first, and send the medalists to Graz.Worlds are still three months away and a lot can happen, both good and bad. No doubt both coaching council and executive committee monitor the 4-6 skaters in contention very closely.

Euro's will be like a stroll in the park, with so few competitors being able to top 200, let alone reach 220. With Tutberidze's Terrific Trio being able to score over 240 each, best save them for World Championships, which is the far more important title.

Perhaps her competition is scared but the judges love her, look at her PCS. I think even if she’s off the podium I think Trusova will be at Euros and Worlds. We can quibble about the Lutz technique but her 4T is perfection and so consistent, plus the 4F is the real deal.

However a clean Liza with a 4T, 4T+3T, 3A and 3A+2T I think will also be to hard to ignore. If she can do all that clean I think she will be on the team to regardless of what anyone else does or does not do. If she’s clean.

The championship of Russia began with rumours about the withdrawal of Kostornaya. Why is this so bad?

What can happen if the leader of the women's skating competition still does not perform in Krasnoyarsk.

In anticipation of the Russian Figure Skating Championship in Krasnoyarsk, which starts training day tomorrow, the network is discussing news about the possible withdrawal of the Grand Prix final winner Aluona Kostornaya from the tournament. “SE” analysed the implications for the selection for international starts.

Selection for the national team can again become scandalous

Alyona Kostornaya, without exaggeration, is a favorite of the Russian Championship. Her absence automatically makes the selection by the federation of the national team for the European and World Championships even more difficult than last year, when there was no Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva. In fact, the tournament in Krasnoyarsk is becoming somewhat intermediate. Whatever the top three may be based on its results, Kostornaya will be kept in mind. Perhaps only the winner of the Championship can somehow count on a guaranteed ticket to Worls.
Recall, according to the rules of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, the first two winners of the Russian championship go to international tournaments, and the third is determined by the coaching council and approved by the executive committee, and this position can change - that is, one figure skater will compete at the European Championship in Graz, and at the world championship in Montreal there will be another.

The absence of Kostornaya almost guaranteed means that the top three will be either Medvyedeva or Tuktamysheva. And throwing them out of there by the decision of the federation will not be easy. Yevgeniya, who has the reputation, Yelizaveta, to whom we are “indebted” from last year.
The European Championships in Graz at the end of January in this case becomes a stress for all Russian skaters. In the event of an unsuccessful performance (and what is failure, it is not spelled out anywhere?) a replacement for Kostornaya is practically guaranteed. Either the Cup of Russia final will be used again, or they will arrange some control skating runs for the leadership of the federation (to decide). Most likely, we again await the separation of opinions on the coaching council and the storm in social media networks. Moreover, if earlier only fans used Instagram in the form of tools, now the time has come for their idols.
In general, let's hope that the news about Alyona is just a rumour. But it has been painfully lately, as often these rumours are confirmed.

If there is an injury, it’s at a very wrong time

There is really no accurate information about Alyona’s state of health, and probably won’t appear until the start of the Championship. Sources of SE found it difficult to say how serious the situation is. In fact, the only source is the journalist Vasily Konov, who in his Telegram channel raised the topic of withdrawal from the competition. Tomorrow morning Moscow time in Krasnoyarsk will be held training for women, on which it will be possible to draw at least some conclusions. I really would not want the trauma to be revealed at the moment the best Russian skater at that moment.

Moreover, the limit on injuries this season for the Tutberidze group can be said to have been exhausted. Miraculously, Kamila Valiyeva managed to recover in time for the Grand Prix finals and win after a leg fracture, another talented junior Alyona Kanysheva was being treated, in fact, her career was threatened. Fractures have been in Anna Shcherbakova and Yevgeniya Medvyedeva. Finally, Kostornaya herself missed the junior World Championships in the spring, and also because of a leg fracture. Any relapse in such a situation is doubly dangerous.

Zagitova hurry up?

There were similar rumours before the Grand Prix finals, when they talked about the possible withdrawal of Alina Zagitova. But there the situation was much more tragic. Alina starred only in demonstration performances, and then made a historic appearance in the program “Time”. Obviously, the impossibility of high results and getting into the top three contributed to the decision to suspend her career. Fighting for medals at the Russian Championship was almost impossible. The layout is obvious - there are these three young students of Tutberidze, and at a considerable distance from them all the others.
However, the possible elimination of the leader would free that cherished third line, and Zagitova would definitely lay claim to it. Of course, her decision to leave was dictated by much more global, psychological and mental reasons. But strictly speaking, her chances of getting into the team in the absence of any of the competitors increased.

It remains to wish health to all our skaters. The situation in Russian figure skating is such that now any injury will have a multiplier effect in the form of disputes about the composition of the national team. So let everyone perform in Krasnoyarsk and decide among themselves who will go to the main tournaments in 2020.

Apparently the planned content sheets are out:

Trusova's has the triksel and 5 quads (!),
Shcherbakova plans 2 quads,
Kostornaya's seems unchanged, 1 and 2 triksels,
Tuktamysheva has no quad planned (but might of course still risk one).

(and I believe there are three fan zones with large screens arranged over the city, probably in malls and other sports locations since it is really cold outside, down to -30 and more)

And Krasnoyarsk might be hosting more important events in the future: https://tass.ru/sport/7419441

"Россия - вперед!" is the title of a special gala with all the national team members.

"The entire Russian national figure skating team, including Alina Zagitova and Yevgeniya Medvyedeva, will take part in the gala exhibition " Russia - go ahead! ", Which will be held on March 29 at the Megasport Arena in Moscow."

So, the Quadster (Rupunzel, Daeneris, Mother of Bears/Dragons etc) just included five quads and trixel for her RusNats programs.
She decided to compete against the Wikipedia again.

Well, I'm not a big fan of prayers but I can try my best... To be seen if I succeeded.

Oof now I'm pretty worried for Sasha. I know she is ambitious but at a such highly important competition maybe it would be better to play it safer? However, maybe her consistency with 4S and 3A improved since the GPF. Anyway, it's going to be an exciting event, can't wait for it!

I wonder if these planned content sheets are accurate? Didn’t the initial sheet for Sasha say 2A in the SP at the GPF? I think we will have to wait and see practice reports before we know the actual layouts.

It's what their trainers submitted in advance. Here is Medvyedeva's actual sheet: https://twitter.com/MedvedevaNation/status/1209734707082080256/photo/1

Some like to play mind games of psychology a little, but of course the planned content still needs to be delivered on actual ice.

#TeamTutberidzeForProgress holds nothing back, they are going for the clean sweep again.

can't liza potentially get 3rd (or better) with a clean program and 2 quad toes and 2 triple axels, and a 7 triple program (repeating axel and toe) if everyone else does poorly? i.e. alena falls on 3A, anna falls and +reps her quads, sasha falls on 3A and a bunch of quads in the free (probably still first), and zhenya botches a few jumps?

Because some people prefer to see actual figure skating rather than "smashing".

Today's practice sessions for the ladies should be over by now, does anyone know if there are any practice notes or videos from today?
