2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

A great competition for the ladies!

My love for Alena Kostornaia knows no bounds :luv17: All I can say is perfection. Absolute perfection.

Perhaps the best lutz-loop I've ever seen Anna do! It had height and speed and was just great. Also, I like this program more every time she performs it! Another gorgeous short program from her.

Very smart of Sasha to leave out the triple axel today, she was able to skate clean because of it! It's too bad that the costume change didn't quite work though. I think this might be her best interpretation of this program so far this season!

After reading about all of Zhenya's boot problems this week, I was a basket case of nerves before her skate and I was honestly expecting the worst. But WOW, what a fighter she is! Sure she had an underrotation and she lost levels, but she's in fifth behind the 3A and Liza which is exactly where she needs to be. I can only hope that the boot survives the free tomorrow

A skater that I think I'll always have a soft spot for is Elizaveta Nugumanova. I loved her as a junior and I'm so happy that she's finally starting to get her groove back again!

I'm heartbroken for Sinitsyna. The program was going so well but that fall was just awful. Hoping she can rebound with a clean free skate tomorrow!

Aliona skated lights out, and it honestly seems like Rusfed is ready to crown her as their new queen. The gap between her and Anna and Sasha is bigger than on international events, I thought they’d try to keep the gap between them not that big.
But everyone did well.
Of course it’s also upsetting to see how one or two mistakes can drop you so much, down to 11 place instantly, the depth is insane.

What? Shame? Again what?

Guess you didn't see the ridiculous points RusFed gave to the winner in SP here. Well, Gorshkov did say that they "would try to abide by sporting principles", after all; alas - they tried, but failed :)

What?? Aliona‘s scores are ridiculous?

Competition is over for now, and while the top skaters performed really admirably (also happy for Stanislava's redemption!), I'm a bit sad for those who didn't have the day they wanted (both Ksenia Sinitsyna and Ksenia Tsibinova, and Maria Talalaikina especially).

Seeing how exquisite Anna's short was made me so happy for her and proud of how lovely of a skater she is, and while I understand the difference between her and Alyona, I am disappointed. It seems as if it is more rewarding to learn a 3A than a quad because of the SP rules, and that just isn't fair to me - quads should be worth more, and the difference in BV doesn't compare to the loss of not being able to do it in the short. If Alyona is clean tomorrow, she will win even if Anna is clean, I fear, and I just don't know if I'd agree with that, though I love the skating of both girls (and Sasha, of course!)

Anyways, congratulations to the top 5 - those were amazing skates - and to everyone who skated clean, and may tomorrow bring redemption for those who didn't .

I agree with everything you say Spirals. Both Anna and Alena were fantastic. Should there be 10 points difference between them? No I don't think so.

Both Ksenia's made the same mistake and blew the combo. Very costly mistake. They would have been in the top flight otherwise.

Interesting fact. Only 4 skaters reached level 4 in Steps: Kostornaia, Shcherbakova, Sinitsyna, Tsibinova.
I thought especially Sinitsyna's StepSeq was superb.

Well done Gulyakova - you're in the top flight!

And very well done Shulskaya! That could not have been easy skating after Kostornaia's monster score.

I'm devastated for Talalaykina. That was rough.

Well, nationals inflation is a thing. But no one should be complaining too loudly about that in Kostornaia’s case. Internationally that goes 86. I’m actually surprised the judges utilized restraint and didn’t give her the 90.

Nugumanova - wonderful performance as always but her protocols looks like an infestation with <'s unfortunately.

Anna's PCS is making me sad a little, just 36 with two categories below 9 for this performance. I consider her program 80+ worthy. But I hope for a clean free skate.

Of course Aliona was overscored. But this is Nationals. And it WAS the best she’s ever skated that SP, the best she’s ever landed that 3A. So... Most ladies got PCS and GOEs through the roof. Sasha got almost 35 PCS. It was to be expected.

Do you have the link with scores, and protocols.

Can't find them, i've always searched on fsrussia but that it's gone now.

Yeah the scoring was typical nationals inflation but she was easily the class of the field. That was effortless skating, especially that 3A. The lutz edge is a bit unclear but no worse than ! (still GOE would be about a+2 or +3 because the other aspects of the jump is great) ... internationally that would lead any competition and be about 85ish.

She got 86 at GPF and was even more perfect today...so really it isn't ridiculous at all.
Everything was just sublime, I'm in awe of her.

Sasha was lovely, I was very pleasantly surprised just how much she has put into improving performance-wise, her SP shows off her softer side so well.
