2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I always have a feeling being "overshadowed" only plays into her favor though, she doesn't have the crazy pressure Sasha and Aliona are under and can basically just go out and perform. She never seems nervous.

Anya is a favorite of mine and she is very near and dear to my heart, her and Aliona are head to head and I cannot decide who I want to win nationals more

When both Anna competes a triksel and Alyona a quad (they have been working on them, but the effort is currently on hold), it is Aleksandra who has to up her game in cleanness of execution. Today's SP was already indicative she is working on this. These three girls are learning side by side in their daily trainings and might still add more difficulty come World Championships, they leave each other no room.

It would absolutely not surprise me if she repeated as National Champ tomorrow.

I'm ok with all the scores except for Anna's. Everyone got a few points boost from GPF, but it seems like she didn't get as big of one. I really think her PCS could be the same as Alena's (for nationals scoring) with their differences in SS and IN; her only weak point is skating skills relative to Sasha and Alena, but she excels way beyond for the other areas. Anna was only ranked 3rd in PCS when I really think she has the best PE/IN - enough to make up for SS and more. I'm surprised the difference in PCS between her and Alena is bigger than between her and Sasha, I don't agree with that. And I thought her combo was the best she's ever done it here, too. It's a bit sad that she needs 3 clean quads to win, 2 I can understand. And I can understand Sasha needing 3 or 4, but Anna has the artistry in spades compared to Sasha's technical prowess.

I agree with everything you said here. 2 point something difference in PCS is absolutely despicable. The judges need to start scoring on what they see in front of their eyes and not on what they ‘believe’ they should be doing, aka everyone constantly saying “Alena has FAR superior skating skills!” It’s a competition! Why can’t scores be fair and accurate?!?

It's funny that you still care about the PCS categories. Look at the protocols - there is no separation at all, not a single judge judges the PCS category. This is a 6.0 system, nothing has changed for the better. Moreover, judges do not even judge GOE as an objective assessment. All efforts to explain this are in vain.

Subjectively, the performance categories could go for Anna or Alena depending on your preferences. That some people here prefer Anna doesn't mean the judges do.

Nothing terrible. Practical. Kostornaya is a product of evolution. Slow and methodical.
Trusova is a child of revolution. She is the revolution. But we have here the fight between the reliability and the probability.

What are you talking about??? Have you ever even seen these girls live? Kostornaia slow? Please, she is much MUCH faster than Trusova. Do not call her a slow skater. She also has a triple axel and is working on quads, so it's not as if she's falling behind technically either.

Guess you didn't see the ridiculous points RusFed gave to the winner in SP here. Well, Gorshkov did say that they "would try to abide by sporting principles", after all; alas - they tried, but failed :)

Winner deserved every point she got. Not only is she a talented and gifted skater, but she is also beautiful to watch. Jumps, grace, and beauty all rolled into one. Very few have the whole package.

Lol! No interpretation?

Okay...no point arguing with you when you say things like that. Obviously you were watching the wrong competition...

her face changes zero times the whole program. I also don't find that her body portrays artistry. Don't get me wrong her skating skills are superb and she obviously has the most smooth skating, but I just don't feel anything watching her. The program is dull for me. Maybe because I felt like I've seen it 100 times at this point

I will help you decide who you should want to win Russian Nationals. Aliona because Anna ballerina won last year. ;) what day and the other ladies are doing is just amazing.

If Aliona deserved 90, Anna deserved 83 and Sasha also deserved a much higher score than she received.

What are you talking about? And enough to make up for skating skills and more?? You can keep your own opinions, but PE/IN in MY opinion is intrinsically linked with SS. Interpretation isn't primarily about showing emotions with your face, and Aliona because of her skating skills can interpret with her body more than what Anna and Sasha can. I think this precedent being set that Aliona is worse in PE/IN is really unfair.

Anna's 3Lz-3Lo is the best she has done in international competition, and with the entry into it included I thought a higher score would be justified too. Her Achilles heel is that she has no speed and is at a standstill completing the combination. I sense judges are looking at that strongly.

Take a look for yourself: there is either 9.5-9.75 for everything or 8.5-8.75 for another for all categories of PCS. Have you seen the beautiful Shulskaya from Orenburg ?, and so she has 28 PCS from the same judges. 10 points the difference is only in the PCS !! What are you talking about ....

If Aliona deserved 90, Anna deserved 83 and Sasha also deserved a much higher score than she received.

Anna is about where she should be, she performed slightly better at GPF IMHO, apart from the loop combo.
Sasha's PCS was generous and I say that as a fan of hers and someone who defends her improvements in performance.

You're missing the point. If Aliona deserved a 90, then the others deserved to have their scores inflated as well to make it fair.

Whenever someone becomes a leader, they start to attract more negative attention and detractors. Everyone likes to root for the underdog.

I will continue to support Aliona and all Russian ladies!

And yes, everyone was overscored today. Let’s shave off 2 points for everyone and this is more realistic. But it’s nationals judging and to be expected.

Everything is very simple. These old people in RusFed do not believe in quads. Nothing to do about. Only time will judge.

Scores are just a number, it is the ranking that matters, and that seems about right to my layman's eyes.

And I repeat myself, but I am really pleased with newcomers Frolova and Shulskaya.

Most skaters already commented on their scores in the press, only a few had sour words to tell.
