2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Well, yes...but Aliona had her score inflated way more than anyone else's.

Aliona inflation in PCS 2.34 points and Anna inflation in PCS 1.52 points. The judges across the board just rate Aliona on PCS. She was visibly behind the music at GPFs but on-song here. So higher inflation is more justified. Both of Anna's performances were just as good.

Yes, this was a better performance than GPF as she was with the music, so it makes sense her PCS would be higher than GPF even in an international event. (Actually my favorite short of hers this season performance wise was at NHK but the 3A here was undeniably the best one she’s ever done in competition and deserved the super GOE she got)

Scores are just a number, it is the ranking that matters, and that seems about right to my layman's eyes.

And I repeat myself, but I am really pleased with newcomers Frolova and Shulskaya.

Most skaters already commented on their scores in the press, only a few had sour words to tell.

Anna Frolova skated the best I've ever seen from her, she was wonderful.

Hopefully, she and the other fresh faces will be able to repeat tomorrow, in the test of true character, stamina, concentration and competitive spirit that is the free program.

Being young and eager might lead to some light headedness and hence mistakes, but that's only for gaining experience.

Scores matter very much. Because of the large gap between Aliona and Anna and Sasha after the sp, it puts extra pressure on Anna and Sasha to not make ANY mistake in the fs, big or small. It's quite possible that Aliona will win even if Sasha and Anna land all of their quads. Aliona will most likely have her score so inflated again that their technical advantage won't make any difference.

Also, what did you expect ? Anna and Sasha are classy and would never publicly badmouth the judges. It doesn't mean that they are happy privately about it, though.

If you think her scores are so inflated can you please tell me which positive GOE bullets you do not think Aliona’s jumps deserved? Or her spins (which are all well centered with good speed even if she doesn’t have the ultra flexibility?)

You will find out when she skates internationally and receives nowhere near a 90.

You’re right, she has never skated that well internationally. If she did, could she not receive 87 instead of 89 if we deduct -1.5 for PCS and -0.5 for GOE inflation (I would take it off the stsq which she can do better)?

I think all of Tutberidze's Terrific Trio can instinctively calculate their TES and reasonably judge PCS given their upbringing by Tutberidze and staff that teach them the whole of figure skating in all of its aspects. They know their 'value' and the actual score is just a confirmation. The praise and/or critique of their trainers is what they look for as to improve themselves and how.

It will also put additional pressure on Aliona to skate cleanly. So, it goes both ways. Also, clean Sasha and Anna will beat Aliona, like, come on. Just do the maths.

Internationally? Yes, ofc, and it probably would not be close. But will the judges reward them for it in Krasnoyarsk? That's doubtful. It's almost as if the judges want Aliona to win.

Alyona beat Sasha and Anna at 2018 JGPF without even her 3As because they did not go clean/succeed with planned quads. She did so again at the recent GPF, we've yet to see clean Anna or Sasha against Alyona yet this season.

See above.

Alyona has beaten both in international competition, once without triple axels at all. Because neither Anna or Sasha were clean and had quad errors

I am not interested in these conspiracy theories.

It is clear to almost anyone who has an understanding of the rule book that Aliona has a clear advantage in the SP and Anna/Sasha have a clear advantage in the LP. Has everyone forgot that Sasha scored like 164 at Jr Nationals last season with “only” 2 quad toes? I’m going to assume she’s attempting at least 3-4 quads tomorrow plus the choreo sequence and she can easily score above 170. Same with Anna. It’s not over until it’s over.

Also, since when is a 3A not considered an ultra-c element anymore? We consider it a risky element for other skaters but not for Aliona, even though she just added it this season? Yes she has been remarkably consistent with it in competition but we’ve seen her take some hard falls in practice and she can’t always be perfect in competition. It’s still a risk.

What conspiracy theory? She scored nearly a 90! That's beyond unreasonable. Had Anna scored 83, I would have said at least they are consistent with how they give out the scores, but no. Anna's sp score was only marginally higher than her previous best.

Exactly. Thank you for saying it.

The Triple Axel is still very difficult and Alyona gets massive GOE on it.
She got 11.66 points for it.
Anna and Sasha got 4.48 and 4.53 for their 2As respectively.

Because Alyona skated much better than GPF and Anna not much differently at all.
Just because Alyona scored some 4 points more doesn't mean Anna should have.

I think some people would defend the scores even had Aliona scored close to 95. They are just not interested in fairness, sadly. Anna and Sasha have worked too hard to not be given a fair chance to win the gold.
