2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

ANNA!!!!!! That was exquisite!!!!!

OMG I do not want to see another post about how she is the weakest link and will be sent to juniors to be beaten by the current juniors (seriously that offended me so much I went from not caring who she was to purposely watching her programs!)

Random note: I am very impressed by how fit Anna is. 3 quads and she didn't seem particularly winded!

Now this was a very interesting and amazing nationals.

Congratulations to the little firebird Anya for her consecutive national title she really performed today and was in general just on

Aliona was great too, but it was almost umpossoble for her to win because Anya was clean, still she put up a great fight.

My heart honestly breaks for Sasha, seeing her cry was just devastating. I'm also angry at the cameramen that kept zooming in when she clearly turned away.

I think the best moment was that Kseniia had to sit in the green room for the whole competition and couldn't take off her skates.

Also kudos to Liza for going for the quad, but the LAYOUT LIZA THE LAYOUT

Eteri could smile because TV chose to show her in that moment, not because she's happy that happened to Med. Stop dramatazing too much.

Congratz to Anna, she deserved it, Alena had mistakes today. Im so sad for Sasha, she can skate her program clean and she knows it.

i am very excited Anna defended her title. she skated so well today and it was deserved.

after looking at the protocols the judges really wanted Aliona to win, they gave her very generous GOEs on the 2A and flip combo despite the small mistakes. but i'm glad she moved up a spot from the last 2 years, although she is definitely disappointed. her 3As are just crazy good, she deserves every GOE point she got for them.

i think Sasha should take a couple quads out until she knows she's hitting them 90% of the time. i really admire her for attempting them, but there will come a time missing them will cost her something, like being named to a team or a podium. if she had skated a 2 or 3 quad free clean today she may have knocked Aliona to bronze.

anyway, sad we missed Medvedeva and Zagitova here, it definitely wasn't the same without them. i expect 3A will be sent to Euros and worlds.

Congrats to Anna, Alena and Alexandra for making the podium again.

To Liza T. for fighting and taking risks. I hope she lands all the difficult elements next season and continues to prove that you don't have to be done by the age of 20.

To Ksenia S., Anna F., Anastasia Gulyakova and Valeria for doing so well as underdogs. I hope they all get multiple international assignments next season!

To the rest for fighting! There were many good skates and many bitter sweet moments (Sofia...). Keep going, girls. (It was nice that Ted could catch up on these former JGP competitors.)

And to Evgenia for her efforts to salvage the situation. She'll be back.

I thought the same thing
She didn’t even smile or laugh. She did a smirk, that was it? And probably because they started filming her face right at that moment.
Jesus, I went to rewatch that moment only because of the comments -_-

Lmao people in here acting like she literally heard about Med withdrawing 2 seconds before all the ladies stepped on the ice for warmups. Give me a break. Med’s withdrawal had been rumored since early morning practices. Eteri was clearly talking to someone off camera but no, let’s make up some bs drama evil witch narrative.

I mean Sasha did a clean run through for her FS, so she probably just got nervous for the real thing. Not only was her practice clean, everything was performed with great quality. I believe that she’ll get the real thing done at Worlds!

Please stop the next Eteri drama in it's roots.
She was clearly having a conversation with the 3A when they penned the camera on her while they were announcing the withdrawal.
And even if she chuckled at that announcement, it is indeed quiet comical that one of the most famous skaters in the world and her equally as prominent coaching team is not prepared for sth like a boot problem at the most important competition of her season.

Apart from that:
I'm an Aliona fan and I much prefer her to Anna but I'm glad she didn't win here. I think it's good for her going into Euros and Worlds, not being painted too heavily as the pressured favorite. I also think it's good that she's very disappointed, second isn't enough for her, she'll stay hungry

I honestly was so surprised by Guliakova, she is so so good tbh. Has she ever had an international competition though? If not it'd be a shame

*waiting for the comments saying she was really just smiling at a butterfly she‘d seen fly into the arena*

Quoting myself because it has arrived! Love it. Took a bit longer than expected but no disappointment on that note in this thread for sure. :)

As for the 3A: Happy for Anna, twice National Champ. Aliona and Sasha looked really sad, though, interviewing all three of them was just rude. They had to hide tears. And Anna couldn‘t enjoy her moment in peace either. This sport... just cruel sometimes.

Yes to everything you said. I am so sad for Sasha, it was just heartbreaking. I hope she doesn’t blame Her coaches for not letting her attempt 3A in the short.

Also, wtf with Zhenya‘s boots. No skater should be forced to withdraw because it’s apparently impossible to get her boots from Moscow or wherever within a day.. that’s so bitter.

Anna proved her detractors wrong!!!
She's not the weakest one and never was!! Well done on defending your title Anna.

Alyona was amazing but can't fight 3 quads, still a very well deserved silver.

Heartbroken for Sasha, strong as she is she's not a robot and skating last was so tough!
It hurt to see her so upset, she fought so hard too, pulled out her second half quad combo and put the loop combo in as if she had never had issues with it!
Gutsy!

She did deserve Bronze

Liza was gutsy too trying her 4T but the whole performance was a bit of a mess. Still, she's a true empress.

Sad Evgenia had to withdraw but risking injury would have been stupid.

I think she was at a JGP with Sasha in Australia (?) but “only“ won silver so didn‘t get a second assignment. Since then, I don‘t know.

The only butterfly worth smiling about here is your imagination to make up drama where it doesn’t exist.

Will Guliakova and Tuktamysheva be the alternates for Europeans and Worlds? I hope so. I think Frolova and Sinitsina, even though they finished ahead of Guliakova, are too young.
