2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Ok I obviously liked seeing the 3A and Liza and all the fight for medals, but the real star of the night for me was Kseniia! She recovered from a devastating short and delivered a beautiful free skate. Really excited to see her turn senior next season. Hope she can surprise us even more.

And I got the system: Alena for (J)GPF, Anna for Nationals and Sasha for Worlds. But who will win the Europeans?

Now, I wonder who the alternates for Euros will be? Liza and who else? Zhenya didn‘t compete, can she still be second alternate?

We are adults, aren't we?

This is really ugly.

Well, apparently not all of us are.

That we can agree on, though in a different context, I guess.

Out of curiosity, where are these people who were advising Anna to change coaches ?

i'm waiting for them, the ones who are happy Aliona didn't win and the ones who think Anna wasn't deserving of her win to come out of the woodwork again :)

Congrats to Anna, those 4Lzes are so impressive! And I'm happy she got the 4F....it doesn't look too hard for her and now she has more confidence in it I expect her to be able to perform it even better. Both Aliona and Sasha were visibly upset so it would be better to have done the interview separately.

For Aliona, she looked gutted to me but I think this will be positive for her in the long-run. It's a difficult feeling to know you'll be in the lead for the SP and others will catch you up. Even though it was wide knowledge that if either Anna or Sasha skates almost clean they'll win, it's still hard to take.

I'm so sorry about Sasha. She was so sad, and I hate that camera man! The game has really changed for her. Anna never even landed a 4Lz in any major competition until nationals last year, and now has 2 consistent 4Lzes, and Aliona never did a 3A until a few months ago and now she competed with 3 3As. I believe in her ability to do it but it will take time to complete such a heavy program.

That doesn't make it any less horrible or fair

I doubt that at any other competition it would be different. After all I remember one shot with Yulia Lipnitskaya, it was some int. comeptition in 2015 where shemessed it and was half-crying, half-angry and the camera was focused on her all the time. That's the usual scheme, showing skater's leaving the ice and first contact with the coach and only then going for replays.

The better performance won on this day. Congrats to Anna! I do love her program. Alena will be back. She was basically a couple of slightly imperfect landings away from winning. I hated seeing her so sad, but it's not like she did horribly. They're all amazing.

The Power of Youth prevailed again.

Not only Tutberidze's Terrific Trio, but also those great young skaters making their first appearance on the National Championships and the whole world thanks to the live stream.

And the 'old maids' came unraveled, despite trying their hardest.

That was an awesome competition: Anna breaking the century mark, Alyona pouting over a small mistake, Aleksandra in tears for the first time ...

But all will be reasonably content after their evaluation.

Seems that Anna's layout is the smartest after all. Sufficient ultra-si without risking stamina or concentration issues.

Alyona needs a quad, Anna and Aleksandra their triksels and the internal force field in Khrustalniy rink will be level again.

Perhaps already in time for the World Championships, now the staff and skaters know what to do?

#РаботаемДальше

Obviously, if Gorhkov stands by his promise. Euros is going to be a walk in the park for Tutberidze's Terrific Trio. And Graz can probably expect a large demand for tickets, for one never knows ....

It's the hardest possible layout with 3 quads. Only one can be repeated - this is the most valuable Lz, and other one is top-2 by bv Flip. What could be more smart)) not to mention Lz-lp.

It's the context in which it was said, which was completely stupid. I'm not sparing my vocabulary, that's how it is. Stupid.

But it wasn't xenophobic. And I'm calling that out, stupid is one word and xenophobic is a whole other accusation.

As others have stated it wouldn't even matter if new boots were available anyways as it would be impossible to complete a professional program with two day new skates. I'm sure that's why athletes don't think it makes sense to carry two pairs for those wondering.

Anna Frolova surprised me in good. Im not sure if stuff in CSKA is able to teach her quad or triple axel, but I hope so because she is really good. Wonder what happend in Snow leopards. It seems like Panova is unable to keep her best skaters. Alena Kanysheva, now Anna Frolova... And I saw even Ksenia to have some not very good communication with Moiseeva.

Who said Alyona was so over scored that nobody could beat her? Oops lol

The FS belongs to the quads, the SP to the Triple Axel. It's that simple

Apparently Aliona wanted to try 4S here, and from what Daniil said, it looks like she landed it in practice (?)

Please stop the next Eteri drama in it's roots.
She was clearly having a conversation with the 3A when they penned the camera on her while they were announcing the withdrawal.
And even if she chuckled at that announcement, it is indeed quiet comical that one of the most famous skaters in the world and her equally as prominent coaching team is not prepared for sth like a boot problem at the most important competition of her season.

Apart from that:
I'm an Aliona fan and I much prefer her to Anna but I'm glad she didn't win here. I think it's good for her going into Euros and Worlds, not being painted too heavily as the pressured favorite. I also think it's good that she's very disappointed, second isn't enough for her, she'll stay hungry

Oh no, don’t try to twist the situation like it was Evgenia’s or her team’s fault. She had those boots for a mere month and it was not to be expected that they would break so soon. If there was an indication she would’ve taken precautions. It’s not like all skaters always carry two pairs of skates with them. In case something unexpected happens you can usually get it fixed on location. In this case it wasn’t possible because the only store in Krasnoyarsk didn’t have any boots for her level (she bought Edea Chorus anyway but it didn't work) and the city is too far away to get the boots there from another store in time. An unfortunate series of coincidences with no one to blame.

I'd agree on Eteri though in regards of not over-dramatizing the situation, I haven't seen it yet but she often smiles when she notices the camera is on her, I'd probably laugh too if they were showing my face while my ex-student's withdrawal is being announced. No one does drama like the Russians!

They learn how to count up to 261

Hehe!

I'm happy for our three awesome aces, although gutted for Sasha that she had a poor performance by her standards. She pulled herself together in the second half though and I'm immensely proud of her mental strength and guts for rescuing a rough situation as well as she did landing her second half quad combo and throwing the loop combo back in too as if it was nothing.

I want all three to do well and I love them all for different reasons

Great competition, besides the podium which was quite obvious going in, there were some surprises. Only Trusova after the very disappointing first half i almost wondered if she could have finished 4th with a performance like that, but thankfully she recovered well.

Shcherbakova two times national champion, her mix of good musicality and quads once again made the difference. Kostornaya is certainly more artistic but she doesn't have the same difficulty and she was a bit shaky here.

Outside the Eteri trio, Mishin skaters again are still delivering solid performances: Liza Tuktamysheva was shaky in the free, unfortunately didn't land the 4t, i thought judging was particularly harsh on her and few other skaters, but still enough to be in 4th, which is still an achievement considering the level of the field.

Guliakova also was on fire, this is the best i've seen from her all season and overall an improvement yet again compared to last season. I really hope she gets GP assignments next season, she has been working hard for it. I had her above Frolova.

Samodurova, while she didn't get huge scores, she still did her best in such a rough season and still managed to stay in the top 10 which is good for the next season.

Sinitsyna was foot perfect, after that big mistake in the short. Her jumps are getting bigger but never out of control, i like the way she skates a lot, sometimes i'd like to see a bit more facial involvement into the performance.

Davydov skaters also were all great in the free, but again they were all a bit stoneface all the time, they need to develop a personality. Tsibinova the one maybe more into the performance, but the quality of the jumps wasn't as good. Frolova did great moving there also, with Panova she was a 2nd-3rd tier skater, she looked more solid here, and i think she could work well with the new coaching team.

Gubanova - Nugumanova - Talalaikina they have to work on the underrotations which made the difference here, Gubanova's score could have been higher i've to say (especially in components i had her above Samodurova).

Konstantinova, after a good SP, the free was once again on the level we saw all season unfortunately.

Judging as always at nationals competitions was a bit unfortunate, with politics involved: i can safely say for instance the steps sequence levels were all BS. They gave level 4 only to the top skaters, and level 2 for the others (while there were some level 2 steps sequences even from the leaders here and level 4 from others), it's not an opinion, but rather the technical panel who just doesn't know how to count the turns (or they don't want to count), and they gave low GOE for those skaters they wanted to downscore and fake underrotations.

I almost prefer to think they were just shady cause otherwise there's some serious incompetence there.

I love Anna's quads but her lutz technique is not the most accurate, with a questionable edge, toe pick and body position going in: giving +4/+5 for that seems a bit generous to me, but as always there are also the camps who think "she landed a quad, that's impressive enough to give her a +5", for me +5 is perfection and that means everything has to be perfect.

Especially considering she did it right after Tuktamysheva's performance which had some proper 3 lutzes and they were nowhere near as rewarded.

I'm a little late, but thanks!

Apparently Aliona wanted to try 4S here, and from what Daniil said, it looks like she landed it in practice (?)

Wow where did you hear that?

Alyona might be working on a quad, it has been suspected for a while now but she is a bit more cautious about introducing them. She gets a lot of points skating clean I doubt she would have considered risking a quad here when making the team is so important
