I'm interested about You's SP layout. She can't use 3A as a standalone jump, so it will be interesting to see if she will do it in combo.

Yes, at GPF Kostornaia earned only a little over 1 point more in GOE for those two jumps. The GOE difference should have been bigger.

I think it's consistent. Anna's landing on the 4F was a beautiful step-out but still a step-out, and it was just -1.

I'm not talking about Anna here. Here scores for that 4F was fair.

But Kostornaia got pretty high GOE for those two dodgy landings. At GPF, when she was perfect, she only scored 1 point more for those two jumping passes.
I think the GOE difference for those two jumps should have been greater comparing Nationals and GPF.

Good for them!
But I must say looking at Sofia's and Gulyakova's attemps just really stresses the exceptional quality of Kostornaya's 3A for me.
It's bigger, further and higher than any of the current ladies' and I also much prefer it to Mao's, I think because it has a beautiful transition in and out (don't stone me). She really lifts off the ground with power and speed while many 3A seem muscled and the skater almost comes to a standstill before.
I can't understand why people complain that she gets +4 for it when landed perfectly, what kind of jump would merit that GOE then?

True.

People have said for a couple years that Sofia's main weakness or her tiny jumps. So how can someone with tiny jumps learn a triple axel when you have to be high enough off the ground to rotate 3 times?

3Ax is lower than 2Ax. The most of momentum is used for rotation.

P.S. Here is why 4Ax is so problematic. One need to add 3Ax momentum to the 2Ax heights and a little more.

It was only at the GPF this year that Shcherbakova's triples seemed to be of decent height, and she's been doing quads for several years.

can we talk about the Junior Ladies at YOG now? Because Anna Frolova and Kseniia Sinitsyna did amazing! Both had small mistakes, but didn't let that effect their step sequences (which IMO is the best part of both of their programs). Especially proud that Kseniia was able to pull out a 3T after a rough landing on 3Lz, even though it was UR.

if you are correct and I believe you are then more skaters should be doing triple axels,

If Anna adds an aliona like triple axel she will be virtually unstoppable!

Agree, if Anna gets the triple axel consistent enough, all she has to do is put it in her SP, she doesn't even need to worry about her FS since she can do her 3 quads there.

Very doable for her. Not easy but doable.

That is literally my point. Your main problem is that you think Aliona was overscored in an inconsistent way given the flaws in the jumps. But in which world is a step-out just -1 in normal competition, when you think of -5 being the score for a fall? There's no problems it's Nationals. Same for Aliona...Aliona's 2A wasn't even anything. And the 3F-3T, given all the other qualities ticked off perfectly in this Russian home-cooked field I don't think it's that surprising.

Not me being correct. It's what Wikipedia has to tell.

And no-one is unstoppable if the Quadster does her job properly. Others may win 1st place only if she either crashed or was awarded the Zero Place.

If both Aleksandra and Anna start competing a triksel and Alyona a quad the field will be more level again and even more exciting.

I think we can be reasonably sure the skaters and trainers are working towards this, increasing difficulty in tech content and keeping quality of execution as high as possible.
The skaters mention this desire in every interview, it even sounds repetitive by now, but we are talking #TeamTutberidzeForProgress here, and progress is the only way forwards to Citius, Altius, Fortius.

Working towards these goals together as a collective and individually competitive must be very rewarding for all involved. And it keeps you in the lead :-)
