2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

JPF was 5 weeks ago. Kamila should have been there. She is by far the best Russian junior. She beat Alysa at JPG final not even at her bext. She would have done the same at the youth olympics and she will never be in a youth olympics now. I keep hearing how important the youth olympics are, If so Kamila should have been there. Hope she is ready for jumior rusnats and junior worlds. This Korean girl You is a real threat at junior worlds along with Alysa. Maybe the days of Russian girls sweeping junior podiums is over. And will these judges get tired of so many Russian girls winning so much on senior and junior levels? I imagine so.

I doubt You will compete at junior worlds with 4CC before and senior worlds shortly after. Not that there weren't such examples, but those are mostly skaters from the countries who have only a few capable skaters to choose from (like Ryabova for Azerbaijan or Eva-Lotta Kiibus for Estonia). YOG have probably some reputation but junior worlds are much more important. They sent her to YOG probably because it is one time opportunity that may not repeat four years later. But even if she would go to junior worlds, lets not forget that at YOG the judges obviously tend to judge her like a senior in comparison with regular junior competitions as I've written earlier. In comparison with GPF her components were more or less equal to senior ladies at GPF with, let's be real, lower quality skate. On junior worlds she, I'm convinced, would never receive 67 points in components for this performance. So far her position depends on relatively stable 3A, in other elements I say she is weaker in average than top russian juniors and I presume Kamila will have her quads back. And I would also put my money on Alysa Liu over Young You in junior competition.

But maybe that's too daring statement from me, let's wait at least till junior nationals.

I wonder how this competition works. Do they just add the scores togehter?
If so, then it is important to have a good single man skater, then ladies skater. Ice dance doesn't matter that much as they score the least.

Before the teams were revealed, there was a pattern for the draws in that link, but it's gone now unfortunately.

Kamila and Daria could NOT have gone to the Youth Olympics because they‘re too young. You have to be 14 years old. If they‘d been eligible, I‘m sure they would have been offered a spot, considering that they both medaled at JGPF.

Oh, you're right, their year of birth is 2006, not 2005, somehow I've completely omited this, I'm stupid.

:otopic: I'm still baffled that the US didn't send Alysa to YOG. Clearly they don't prioritize this competition. The other countries did.
And if it's too close to Nationals - well just move the Nationals one week. They've probably had the info about this YOG competition for years.

I don't think it's that important of a competition for Alysa, much less for the USFSA to adjust it's schedule. The following weekend is Superbowl in the US, and the next weekend is 4CC.

Well, frankly I find that kind of arrogant.

What's arrogant?
The prospect of YOG was offered to Alysa early on, and she turned it down. Presumably because she wanted to focus on her senior program for Nationals and not have to deal with practicing a junior program at the same time. What do you think the USFSA should have done--kidnapped her and put her on a plane to Lausanne? Skaters under USFS do have the right to decline assignments or remove themselves from the running, before assignments are made.

How this belongs in a Russian Ladies thread escapes me. :otopic:

At this competition, I‘m not so sure about it. You Young had two virtually flawless skates, including 3-3s and a 3A. I do agree that Kseniia has a lot of potential and should absolutely get senior GPs next year. Her jumps are great, as are her spins and steps (those skating skills!) and her programs are very detailed and intricate. (Yet I always seem to miss that little something. I know I might be alone with that but I haven‘t got a whole lot emotions from watching her yet. It‘s all very perfect and beautiful but also a bit... cold and calculated, maybe?)

It‘s also true that she‘s missed a few chances, JGPF and Junior Worlds especially - I feel like at both she could potentially have medaled, at JGPF I actually had her as my underdog favorite for the Gold! But here, at this particular competition, You was better and imo, I‘d have given it to her even if Kseniia had been clean. It would have been close, I agree on that, of course, but I don‘t think we can say for sure that Kseniia’d have won when her BV was lower to begin with.

But I‘ll be looking forward to seeing her at Junior Worlds where hopefully, she will finally medal! I can‘t see any better junior than her other than Valieva, of course. Usacheva is just as inconsistent, Khromykh still struggles with the triples despite landing a quad, Kanysheva is injured. Frolova and Vasilieva are also weaker, imo. For now, I‘d say the most likely candidates for the podium at Junior RusNats are Valieva, Sinitsyna and Usacheva. But a lot can change in even a short amount of time so let‘s wait and see.

I don‘t get your point but I doubt it has anything to do with Russian ladies skating. If you miss Russian subtitles for your favorite show, go and do them! I‘m sure a lot of people will be thankful to you just like many of us here are thankful to the wonderful people who provide translations of interviews and TV excerpts regularly. :)

I miss the common sense of those, who ask for subtitles to the world language' video. What kind of subtitles do you expect? Japanese, Cambodian, Bahasa, Tatar? This is not easy to translate to hundreds of languages, you know? The video is already in the most common language for the widest auditory possible. If you still don't know Russian, this doesn't obligate anybody to translate anything to your preferred language. There are schools, language apps, textbooks, internet. Choose education, not supremacist relic terms, it is 2020 after all. You want to understand Russian, you learn Russian. Nobody must translate the biggest European language especially for you and your offensive wishing.

Well it is counting for the SB list so it is quite important for junior skaters.

Top skaters like 3A, Alysa and Young You do not have an excessive need to improve their SB. They are already very high.

Well I flagged this :otopic: to start with.
What I mean is that it is arrogant of the USFS to schedule the Nationals so close so it becomes impossible for a good skater like Alysa to enter the YOG. What were they thinking? Clearly not on YOG...so...thus arrogance.

To be frank regarding YOG Europeans are also scheduled at inconvenient time.

I didn‘t think you (or anybody else who mixed up the age limits) were stupid. I‘ve been confused about them as well, it‘s unusual that they have different requirements than regular junior competitions. But I guess it‘s because it‘s the Olympics, so probably counts for all sports, not just figure skating.

YOG is just not a valuable competition.

See, this is something I don‘t get. It‘s the OLYMPICS after all. Sure, not the senior ones, but who knows whether any of these youngsters will make it to the Olympics in two years? Imo, it‘s a unique experience for them, being able to experience the Olympic spirit, representing your country, huge, cheering audiences, Olympic medals on the line... Junior Worlds comes every year, YOG doesn‘t, I never have and probably never will understand why the former is that much more prestigious. You Young is an Olympic Champion, even if she doesn’t make it to the senior Olympics or doesn‘t medal there. It will never be the same as a senior OGM in prestige and opportunities afterwards but it IS an Olympic Gold. For me, if I was an athlete, that would be a huge deal, personally. So, yeah, I‘m confused at how easily dismissed this competition gets. :scratch2:

It‘s too late for me to reply anything other than: please, stop trolling. You‘re on an English speaking forum, people will *kindly* ask and hope for English translations. You‘re free to leave if you don‘t like it. Nobody‘s forcing you to stay here with us selfish, offensive people. ;)

You mean the youth Olympics has an age limit minimum? Lol! I find that quite bemusing.

On a side note thank you for the clarification. It's good to know that youth Olympics excludes a lot of youth. ;) Lol!

Interesting take. But I think for Young You to win a junior World gold over Alysa and Kamila would launch her career big time. Whatever happens will be fascinating to follow.

Agree. It's very random.

Here is the average placing of each team

1. Team Focus 5,5 (with Kagiyama)
2. Team Courage 5,75 (with Sinitsyna)
3. Team Vision 6,25 (with Mozalev)
4. Team Determination 7,0
5=. Team Motivation 7,25
5=. Team Future 7,25 (with Frolova)
7. Team Discovery 7,5
8. Team Hope 8,0

Is there any hope for Team Hope?
