2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

That was really impressive by Kamila....the first 4T was extremely high she almost had to control herself for the second! I'm sure she must be wishing she was in seniors by now. Is she coming in Olympic year?

Congratulations to all the skaters, and particularly to the top six: Kamila/Sofia A/Daria/Sofia S/Maya/Adelia !

Does this mean that Kamila, Daria and Maiia will be sent to jWorlds?

Do they need to compete again in Russian Cup in Velikiy Novgorod in a couple of weeks as the final decider?

Selection for the Olympic games will be crazy. Zagitova, Medvedeva, Trusova, Scherbakova, Kostornaia, Valieva, Tuktamysheva, Usacheva, Khromykh, Sinitsyna... omg.

I loved Ted Barton getting increasingly speechless as the competition went on - Junior Nationals gave him, in order, almost-clean Khromykh, an adorable Petrosyan, clean Samodelkina with two 3As, then clean Akatieva with quads, then clean Valieva with quads and then clean Usacheva to top it all off. He didn't even know what to say.

I think it must take something very special to render a commentator speechless. That's his job!

Can someone tell me why kamila’s PCS are 3 whole points higher than Daria’s? Daria comes across as so much more poised, elegant, and expressive, just maybe not quite as powerful. I wish Daria was as hyped up as Kamila because to me she is just such a joy to watch, can’t take my eyes off of her, if only she had a quad.

? I was asking since Berestovskaia and Akatieva aren't age eligible?

OMG, they just gave Eteri a medal. I'm surprised how mushy that makes me feel as the anthem starts with her out there with them.

What an insanely well skated event! Technically superb of course.

I loved Adelia, she’s so adorable. Berestovskaia’s got a special charm as well. Akatieva was very much focused on the technical side but I like her for skating to Amelie. Kamila is brilliant of course. I also liked Osokina, she‘s got something about her. Personality and an insane amount of speed.

There wasn‘t yet a performance that really emotionally moved me, though, and it might have to do with the music choices. These are kids and someone like Petrosyan, who‘s bursting with energy should be given something funny and upbeat and just.. fitting for her age. Same for Usacheva, Valieva and some others... they‘re brilliant but their musical choices are too advanced for children and overpower them. They’re so young, they have time to do Exogenesis, Edit Piaf etc. later on when they‘re more mature and have some life experience to build on. There‘s no need to rush and try to make them look like something they aren‘t yet. Let them be kids. Brilliant, but kids.

I‘m lazy so I‘ll just copy what I wrote about Kamila in the competition thread because it describes my thoughts pretty well.

For me, this is an example of a skater whose brilliance nobody can deny but who I don‘t quite believe yet what she‘s skating to. This music is slow, intimate, almost vulnerable in the beginning and goes on to show some real pain and emotional growth in the second, faster part. It’s about forgiving yourself, moving on, healing. Imo, Kamila is just too young for that and thus I didn‘t see a real, deep connection to the music yet. Her choreography is also similarly fast paced in both parts of the program and that, for me, doesn’t reflect the message of the piece at all. I did see a truly brilliant skater, though. And congrats on landing the 4Ts again. Definitely a beautiful performance.

Congrats to the medalists and those who earned their tickets to Junior Worlds. I‘m sad for Sinitsyna who‘s been performing better than Maiia internationally this season but you need to be on at Nationals and sadly, she wasn‘t...

Poor Sinichka. :( The same thing happened again, for 4th year in a row.
In 2017 Gubanova did not go to JW, in 2018 - Tarakanova, in 2019 - Kanysheva and in 2020 - maybe Sinitsyna.
Gubanova was a JGPF silver medalist, Tarakanova - JGPF bronze medalist, Kanysheva - JGPF bronze medalist and Sinitsyna - 4th place at JGPF. Instead of Gubanova in 2017 and Tarakanova in 2018, Konstantinova went to JW (two times in a row). She did not qalify for any JGPF, right? Sinitsyna went to JW because of Kostornaya's injury and over both Kanysheva and Tarakanova who had more success during the season and now Maya will go over Sinitsyna.

So, is Sinitsina going to Junior Worlds ?

The hall speaker announced the medalist as the Junior Worlds Team. But we'll find out from the press in a couple of hours. Gorshkov will likely make the announcement from Sarasnk after a presidium meeting.

Akat'yeva is too young.

Akat'yeva being too young for next season JGP may work out as a blessing in diguise. If she keeps improving steadily while growing, she'll be at full strength, technical prowess and artistic maturity as a junior come 2021/2022 season. She still is changing teeth ..., which gives her an extra cute smile :-)

Kamila’s PCS are higher because she has quads. More difficulty equals higher PCS.

I honestly don’t know who the 3rd girl will be at junior worlds. Will another Cup event be the deciding factor?

Say what you want, but it was an amazing competition. The last group is something unreal. They are the pride of my country.
Poor Ted, he was frankly shocked, in a good way, from everything he saw  He knew only Valieva, Sinitsina, Usacheva, Khromykh, Frolova, and that was probably all. We are here inside, we know about our Sonechka Akatyeva, about Samodelkina (and about their ongoing great battle with each other), we saw Berestovskaya in the "Ice age" and her quads at the Moscow championship, we admired this cute little mouse - Adelechka Petrosyan. And it all fell on poor Ted at once, momentary, at its best, with the highest effort of strength and ability of girls. By the end of the competition, he simply could not find the words
