2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Between Maiia and Ksenia I prefer Ksenia for JW. Maiia is a riskier choice. To me it looks her techniques have not matured- under pressure, she could change her technique and her knees look very stiff. Sure she has improved since JGP but she is probably the most juniorish looking skater among all Eteri's students. She will probably end up being very tall. Plus her LP music is just bad.

Ksenia is a much more mature skater, and I really like her LP this. However, I am not sure whether her jumps can survive puberty because they don't look big (not particularly small either)

OT, but just wanting to know ... What does "ultra-c" mean?

I looked in up on Wikipedia and they said it was the slogan of the 1968 Japanese gymnastics team. "A" was the easiest program layout, then "B," and "C" was the hardest. So ultra-C was even harder than that.

is that what people are referring to here?

In Russian FS community, Ultra C means 'ultra hard' jumps, it can be either any of the quads or 3A.

No she won't. She is already at 22nd place of the projected rating list, and the season is far from finished.
After 17/18 season points get deleted and 18/19 season only count for 70%, Stasya is currently 21st and need. She did have few skater below her that will compete at WC and JWC but i doubt she will be out since most of these skater that will compete at WC have compete at Euros/4CC. They only gain point from WC if they earn more point than they get in Euros/4CC since major comp point only count once. They also can gain point by competing at senior B but if they already max out their senior B (2 counted) its not gonna change anything

I was responding to someone who asked who could possibly bump Maiia off the podium.

As for the 7th, I was incorrect as I thought Rino was going but she was not selected for Japan.

No. in fact you posted this:

"it’s confirmed that at most Russia will have 2 ladies on the podium at JWC. But I’d bet it will only be one."

To which the response was:

"I don't see how both Usacheva and Khromykh can be out of podium"

Translated: maybe one of them will be out of the podium, but hardly both.

You just keep posting angry comments with no reason behind, wishing a skater having bad skate just for the sake of your ego, that's all.

Don‘t agree with Ziotic‘s point but they‘re hardly the only ones doing that lol. Wasn‘t it just a few days ago I read that glorious post of someone insulting Fran’s (as we found out: hypothetical) child because they didn‘t agree with what she said? Because that’s so much better. I wonder where your outrage was then. Seriously, this place.

You can't insult somebody who doesn't exist. This is useless comparison.

Interview with Kamila, Sofia and Daria at junior nats with english subtitles:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyMqDxMaZZs
Amazing job! Same with Edwin's translated interviews.
Still, I don't think devoted and amazing fans should be doing this in a long run, but Russian federation's media department, who are paid for this. It's a thriving, powerful organization, funded and supported to organize and promote the sport and I don't remember a single interview from internal tournaments translated by them. They did good job putting them on YT, but, like every fan-base, foreign supporters are lusting for off-ice things Russian skaters say. There are always translation requests under Olga Ermolina's interviews for instance. It's really not a rocket science or extreme effort to translate those 5-10min conversations.

“ Figure skaters practice from 9:15 to eight in the evening. I don’t see anything unbearable ”

The main rival of Eteri Tutberidze at the junior level, CSKA coach Sergei Davydov summed up the results of the junior championship of Russia for “SE”.

At the tournament in Saransk, students of CSKA could not win medals, although in fact they are the only ones at junior level who are fighting with Khrustalniy on an equal footing. A week before the Russian Championships, at the Moscow championship Sof’ya Samodelkina and Yelizaveta Berestovskaya have beaten Sof’ya Akatieva, Veronika Zhilina and Adeliya Petrosyan - but in the main tournament, five of the six first places went to the group of Eteri Tutberidze.

Coach Sergei Davydov admits that his students need further technical progress. So far, only Samodelkina (triple Axel) and Berestovskaya (quadruple Toeloop) are doing ultra-si.

-- Sergey, how would you rate the tournament for your wards?

- Could have been better, I’ll appreciate our fourth place, I guess. I'm talking about Sof’ya Samodelkina, and Lisa Berestovskaya, and the rest. Lisa didn’t do her quad, then she would be much higher. And Sofa as a whole fought, but she should have been cleaner in her triple Axels, and in her short program, not making such silly mistakes.

-- Sof’ya said that it’s already difficult to deal with “Khrustalniy” with two triksels.

- We need quads, obviously. The competition with them really rests on the ability to do such jumps. We are working on this, but have not yet reached the necessary stage ready for insertion.

-- Does the schedule perhaps interfere with this?

- Of course, we spend a lot of time on skating. And you need to sit on this tightly and engage yourself, as we had done with the axel. So this is a task for the end of the season, when the competitions come to an end. Without (quads), fighting is really difficult.

- Are you satisfied with the ratings? At the championship of Moscow two weeks ago there were these components, in Saransk you were given completely different. If we compare, conditionally, Samodelkina and her rivals from Khrustalniy. How to explain this?

- These are inexplicable things, this is the opinion of the judges. And discussing it with us, coaches, makes no sense. The judges reward you this way, which means they know better, everything is at their discretion. Do better, then. Make sure you get higher marks. Work towards this.

- And how many starts Sof’ya and Lisa had this season?

- I’ve lost count, but from 10 to 14 times. Sometimes more. Last year they were only small, they didn’t make it everywhere, but this year is a transitional year, they are performing on all fronts. Which means all the Championships of Moscow, Russia, the stages of the Cup. This year, the load is heavier.

-- Do all from those who were in Saransk go to the Cup final?

- Yes, everyone should. (Samodelkina, Berestovskaya, as well as Anna Frolova, Nika Ryabinina, and Sof’ya Muravyova acted on the championship of Russia from the Davydov team). In the Final, only 12 people are allowed, so we’re not sure about Nika Ryabinina, this will be decided on a different level - who is traveling, who is staying behind, who will already be preparing for the World Championships.

-- Isn't this calendar too intense for 12 year old girls?

- The requirements are high, but we are preparing everyone so that competition is like a vacation. What? You arrive, skate for half an hour, warm up for six minutes, perform for five minutes. That is all you have to do. This is an emotional load, not a physical one. So they are clearly aware that a start is a respite. This is not a workout of one and a half to two hours, morning and evening.

-- And how many hours do they train per day, if not secret?

- There is no secret, usually 5-6 hours. They are engaged somewhere from 9:15 to eight in the evening with breaks for school and classes. That is, they spend the whole day away from home. In addition to the fact that they have two times ice, there is also general exercises, choreography, fitness training, some kind of personal task.

But everybody is on equal footing. People from Khrustalniy also perform, we all meet at the same starts. So I don’t see anything unbearable.

Anastasiia Guliakova and Anastasiia Kolomiets will compete at Tallin Hotels Cup.

Gulyakova! Hopefully she can build on her great Nationals. She’s second alternate, is she in the conversation for GPs? Maybe junior? Idk who’s eligible from the current novices.

GPs - no, she doesn't have a SB (only competed at Tallinn Trophy)
JGPs - it's possible, but she'll be 18 in August, and there's new skaters coming up next year. I'd say the top 7 include Valieva, Usacheva, Kromykh, Frolova, Samodelkina, Petrosyan, and Muravyova, plus Tarakanova/Vasilieva if they stay junior. So, it doesn't look like there's a ton of room for Gulyakova to get a JGP either.

Konstantinova left her coach Valentina Chebotoryova.

Who is she with now?

Unfortunately she doesn't have a SB but she can get the Rostelecom host spot. I don't think she'll go back to juniors – she's almost 18.

Thanks for the infos. I thought it sounded difficult, considering she didn‘t get any spots this year... hm. I wonder what‘s next for skaters like her, Sakhanovich, Nugumanova and all the others. Only Challengers and Nationals? They‘re so good, it kind of hurts to not see them make the big international scene at least once. (though Sima did compete at a GP this season)

Also wonder where Stasya went. She always seemed really close with her coach. Good luck to her, in any case, hoping for a better season next year.

Konstantinova left the group of coach Chebotaryova

MOSCOW, Feb 11 - RIA Novosti. Figure skater from Sankt Peterburg Stanislava Konstantinova left the group of coach Valentina Chebotareva, a source familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti.

Konstantinova was a participant in the European and World Championships, the Silver medalist of the 2018 Grand Prix stage in Finland, the Bronze medalist of the 2019 Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, and a repeated medalist of the Russian Junior Championships. She was the first reserve team of Russia at the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The skater and coach declined commenting on this information to RIA Novosti.

The last tournament that Konstantinova held under the leadership of Chebotaryova was the Russian Championship in Krasnoyarsk, held at the end of December, where the athlete took 13th place.

In the group of Chebotareva, the Silver medalist of the 2018 Olympic Games in team competitions, the Bronze medalist of the 2018 World Cup Mikhail Kolyada, is still training.

Sport Express added:

As it became known to SE, Stanislava Konstantinova left the group of Valentina Chebotaryova and will soon switch coaches. The source claims that Konstantinova, among other things, is considering moving to Moscow.

This is due to the fact that the search for options among St. Petersburg groups has not yet been crowned with success.

The 19-year-old skater was assessed by Veronika Daineko and Alexey Mishin, but none of the coaches began to continue cooperation. The athlete herself is still silent. Valentina Chebotaryova is also not available for comment.
