2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Not that I wouldn't be interested in if Eteri would be able to give stability to Stasya, but I'm afraid the problems would be similar to what I've written about Raf.. Also I don't know whether Stasya would be able to work in highly competitive environment.

As for Hamada, well, while people can spend hours and days talking about how "inhuman" russian coaches are, Hamada stands aside, while I don't think her methods are exacly "humane" (Oda's case).

I think it depends on what Stasya wants to achieve in remaining of her career.

If her aim is to compete at Russian cup and have some outsider's shot at international competitions (at best, Like Gubanova this season) then fine, but in this case coaching change doesn't make much sense.

If she wants to try to fight for top 3 at Nationals, then I doubt 'humane' ways will do.

When discussing coaching changes people often forget that in Russia, they already have skater with triple axel who didn't make it to the team and it's highly likely that number of out-of world Team skaters with Ultra C is going to at least, double during olympic year.

Apparently Konstantinova didn't leave?

The director of the school of the Olympic Figure Skating Reserve in Sankt Peterburg Ta'tyana Menshikova denied the R-Sport information about the departure of 19-year-old Stanislava Konstantinova from the group of Valentina Chebotaryova.

- Stanislava is still listed in our school, in the group of Valentina Mikhailovna Chebotaryova. There were no applications for leaving the school, ” Menshikova told TASS.

“ Stanislava stopped training for a while, that’s true, but she trained under the leadership of Chebotaryova two or three weeks ago.

Konstantinova herself told TASS today that “ she returned to training after a forced break ”.

So a rumour running wild quickly refuted?

We'll see in the Cup Final in a week.

I wonder what a “forced break” means.

That's of course absolutely true. So far it seems that other approaches don't bring the results and other coaches who want to catch up with Eteri (Davydov) are more or less adopting her style. It's just that in this I agree with those who say that such style is not for everyone.

But it seems that it is not sure Stasya truly left (though that info posted by Menshikova is quite cryptic).

The girl who makes a good quad attempt today, who tomorrow will be a girl with a stable quad. Which legally won its place in the world. She should step aside because blah blah ..? I do not believe my ears. Rusfed would be crazy to go for it.

It all depends on how long the coaches are willing to work with her.

If she doesn't medal at JW, will they ask her to leave or switch to Ice Dance? :confused2:

Also what kind of message RusFed sends if only Eteri skaters get chosen, it's possible in 3-4 years Eteri will be in charge of all ladies figure skating in Russia, with some of the other coaches chosen as their second teams.

We’ll know for sure by the time of Russian Cup finals.

Administration takes time, a forced break could mean anything...

Something seems to be brewing though, and spots on shows, Cirque etc don’t appear out of nothing.

Best make a choice when you still have a choice.

Cup Final start lists are slowly being filled.
According to the training schedule, it is 10 senior Masters and 12 Junior Candidates.

If a top 5 finish is needed, all know what to do.

There are a few 2005 borns ready to advance, hopefully, none from Khrustalniy since Kanysheva switched and AFAWK no new 14 year olds have been recruited.
Sinitsyna and Tarakanova should step up and prove themselves, or their places will be taken by eager newcomers like Shulskaya and Tsibinova, possibly even Moroz who are without ranking but merited.

I don't get Ice Dance remark, Do you mean to ask if Maiia is going to get injured ?!

If past history is any indication of future,Eteri doesn't tell skaters to leave outright, but tells them to skate alongside people on par with them skill-wise(Irina Viner is known for same handling of out-of-shape athletes, for example she famously told Alina Kabaeva 'You are performing like a kid, so go and train with kids'), so if her performance doesn't dramatically go down in quality why should Eteri force her to quit?!

I think Maiia's Career depends on her height much more than JW medal, She is already 'too tall' for FS standards and is likely to be 170+ how she will handle that height is real question.

Stasya confirmed that she left her (already past) coach and said that she is training at full strength.

Between Maiia and Ksenia I prefer Ksenia for JW. Maiia is a riskier choice. To me it looks her techniques have not matured- under pressure, she could change her technique and her knees look very stiff. Sure she has improved since JGP but she is probably the most juniorish looking skater among all Eteri's students. She will probably end up being very tall. Plus her LP music is just bad.

Ksenia is a much more mature skater, and I really like her LP this. However, I am not sure whether her jumps can survive puberty because they don't look big (not particularly small either)

I agree. But I also think Kanysheva should have gone to JrWorlds last year instead of Ksenia, so in a way it's righted that 'wrong'. With Maiia, maybe this will be the springboard to the next level in her skating and give her confidence. I agree she needs to ditch that program as soon as possible. Her SP is beautiful, and she moves so well to it. But that LP does her no favors.

So how would Konstantinova, a fully developed mature skater, ready for exploitation, fit in Plyushchenko’s business model?

Like said by others, without ultra-si there is hardly a point in competing for World Championship spots?

Plyushchenko disagrees https://rsport.ria.ru/20200211/1564537186.html , which makes it all the more interesting...

Wow, what a confusing day.
Konstantinova just now officially confirmed she left Valentina Chebotoryova, according to Tass.
R-sport reports that she had a training in Plyushenko’s Academy today.

So even if I got the city wrong where Plushenko trains it is an actual option for Stasya. I’m just going to update my mistake tally to 1.5 out of 3 correct statements ;)

It’s OK, we’re all confused :-)

Will Konstantinova compete in the Cup Final, or will she have arranged a bye with FFKKR? Along with Medvyedeva and Zagitova already on the bye list, that makes three. Which means three others are denied a chance to advance by sporting principle? Really hope for some newcomers to blow the competition away in Cup Finals.

Tat’yana Mishina confirms there were talks with Konstantinova a month ago, and Konstantinova went to see Moskvina thereafter.

NevaSport has a lot of articles on this, obviously.

Does this mean Stanislava made a trip along all major rinks with adult skaters and wasn’t accepted anywhere? Her 'reputation' travelled ahead of her?

So where is she training at full strength now?

I think Stanislava would like to go to Plushenko because he could put her in big money shows and exhibitions where Stasya can really shine. her best competitive days are probably behind her. But Stasya cuts beautiful lines on the ice so people will want to see her in shows and exhibitions and and some money men in Russia will pay her to do so.

1.5 out of 3? Now you are batting 500 my friend.;)

Eteri doesn't need or want someone like Stasya. Not a chance in the world that she would take on an ancient (by her standards) well-known headcase - come on, she doesn't have time to waste coddling anyone.

Anyway, this article says she didn't leave:

https://tass.ru/sport/7735669

At first glance I agree with your assessment of stanislava with Eteri. But Stasya is a beautiful tall figure skater different than the beautiful tiny girls the great coach already has and she will be 20 years old this summer. EG might want to coach a girl that age and then Alina is turning 18 in May all of a sudden she's going to have a couple of mature skaters age-wise. It's a shot in the dark for Stanislava but why not try to go there?

So with Stanislava in Serafima out of the Russian Cup final who are going to be the top Russinas a bunch of Nastyas? ;) This is really a great opportunity for someone to take gold at this event. It's watered down from last year for the ladies in the Russian Cup final but it's an incredible opportunity to someone to basically give their career new life. And I'm hoping it's NastyaG1.

this was a very bold move from Stanislava to leave her coach who she absolutely adored. But change needed to be made and I'm not used to Stasya being bold like this. Maybe she really can change and toughen up a bit.

Stasya's rumoured actions make no sense.

She went to Mishin at test skates and ended up at Angels of Plushenko?! Only realistic explanation is that Edwin's version of events is close to truth and Plushenko was the only coach who didn't decline her offer.

If thats true that all coaches declined her other than Plushenko her pride must be hurt. I want to see Stasya smiling not crying.
