2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Meanwhile You Young landed 4lz and 4lo in practice.

It will be extremely interesting what will usual suspects do once she does land them in competition  I am sure You-know-who already has a ruler and a scope ready to measure angle of edge and 'pre rotation' size  ... in a video shown alongside 4lz of Hanyu and Boyang, of course

You know, there are quads that are lessening the significance of art in figure skating, and then there are those that don't. Guess which ones are which in the eyes of usuals suspects

Sasha wants to be the first to do the 4Lo in competition I’m sure so this will probably motivate her to learn it faster. I just hope she will be safe in the pursuit of her records!

I’ve seen the other photos from Tatler’s March issue, Trusova with Tina in her lap is quite touching. Both look so lost and sad ....

Hopefully the complete series will be posted in full splendor soon.

And a ‘junior’ issue with Akat’yeva, Petrosyan, Zhilina, Kolesnikov and Knyazev will sell well too for, these children are very photogenic also.

Konstantinova will be training at Plushenko’s Academy under Volkov.
Not sure it’s the right step, since Anastasiya Tarakanova pointed out quite a few disadvantages of that camp (less ice time, mixed-aged groups, smaller rink size)
But her season was super rough, so she probably felt like a change was necessary.
I wonder why she didn’t try it with Rukavitsyn?

It still can be just "temporary". I guess many regular coaches can have a peroblem with accepting a skater during the season. That was BTW the reason why Nastya came to Plushenko, because the transfer window was already closed.

I think we need a poll to find out how much GOE Anna should lose for edge which is between outside and flat. I have feeling that penalizing her like it was a fall is going to win.

Regarding to under rotation, Anna almost always gets on the wrong side of every close call, it has already cost her and European tittle, So I don't know what people don't like tbh.

I did that analysis after Cup of China and I think Anna lost about 6-7 points in GOE for her ! calls on all her 5 Lutzes.
But imo, those edge calls were all really harsh.

I'm surprised to see that Kurakova and Tornaghi will be there. Can you compete in both Junior and Senior Worlds??

Yes you can, a few small federation skaters have done so and even Konstantinova a few years back if I recall

You can and many skaters actually did even the last year, esp. from federations who don't have many competitive skaters (Eva Lotta Kiibus, Alexandra Feigin and others). Just competing in junior and senior GP during the same season isn't allowed. The other problem is that it is pretty close and it can be difficult to have two top competitions back to back. That's why there were talks about whether Artur Danielian will attend junior worlds or not for instance.

In practice is the word here. The Russians do it in comps.i

I believe the nastya you are talking about losing a junior world spot to Stasya was Nastya G not Nastya T. Don't tell me that happened twice. I hope not.

To be fair I think it applys to both Nastyas. Taraknova had the better jgp performances with a bronze at the final but had some minor mistakes at nationals and was apparently lowballed. Gubanova had a challencing jgp due to growth issues but skated verry well in the later half of the season and I would ay clearly outskated Konstantinova at nats but for som unknown reson recived about 10pts less PCS (where I think they are about equal) and due to that ended up 4th.

But they looked pretty well, I guess You won't linger with putting them into competitive programs.

You is young, strong, ambitious and eager. It's good she and her team picked up the glove and applied themselves.

One more target to chase after for 'destroying artistry, ruining a child's body' and the rest ....

Nobody questions Korea's brutal training methods, the starch and water diets forced upon the girls and all the repeated arguments that are used against the Russian skaters advancing the sport?

The only West European federation with ambition, a suitable large base and facilities for learning ultra-si in figure skating is Italy.

Plushenko has well-sized ice rink since last May.. so he has two rinks and he builds the new training center in Moscow... Those problem have long been solved. Ryabova trains there, too for example

Not sure what to think about Stasya. Obviously, she‘s had a rough season so a change might be good mentally. I‘m just not too much of a fan of the Plushenko camp after what happened to Sima and Nastya after they left. Coaches dragging skaters for leaving in the media is a huge no for me. Sadly, there aren‘t many other options... Mishin probably wouldn‘t take her, Stasya‘s a grandma by Eteri‘s standards and I don‘t want to comment further on Buyanova. Panova and Davydov are more junior coaches. Rukavicin already has Gubanova and Nugumanova. Turenko would be an option, does she have anyone else beside Sima? But Plushenko wouldn‘t be too bad, I guess. At least she‘ll be able to earn some money in his shows as well...

And then again, Plushenko (or rather the ones doing the actual coaching) did a pretty good job with Sima, who had huge technical issues as well. So hopefully they‘ll be able to help Stasya. She has my support. Hoping for a better season for her next year.

Konstantinova's issues seem to be mostly psychological or mental, but 'mental' is often used in a negative meaning. Self doubt, too high demands of oneself combined with disastrous competition results can easily lead to disorders like anorexia and worse in young adults. That forced break after Russian Nationals could be some medical issue after that particularly bad fall, a mental breakdown or many other reasons. Need to pass exams, we probably would have known.

In any case, none of the hype placed by TAT and others in Konstantinova became a reality. Is Konstantinova from the CSKA column even?

But Stanislava needs to disconnect, leave all of this behind, perhaps even cleanse herself from this and really start with a clean slate, if she wants to compete for another couple of seasons in the sub top.

I wonder how Volkov and the other staff at the Academy are able to deal with these issues. At least there is some good company in Ryabinina and perhaps some other new recruits that might be added come next season.
