2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

...

Is Zakharova eligible, or on the wrong side of the age line?

And also Alina Gorbacheva? She has a summer 2007 birth, but when? Many juniors will still participate in several competitions. Spartakiad finals for example. An opportunity to show oneself once again.

Probably Frolova - 6th at senior nationals, 8th at junior nationals, 3rd at Youth Olympics

Is Zakharova eligible, or on the wrong side of the age line?

Mariya Zakharova from Khrustalniy, though not training in #TeamTutberidzeForProgress was born September 21, 2007, so on the wrong side of the age line. She is one of those 12 year olds that are trying to break into Junior ranks.

Along with Lisa Berestovskaya, Alina Gorbachyova, Sof'ya Akat'yeva. These novices are involved in their own 'arms race, Akat'yeva already has her ultra-si, Berestovskaya is almost there, Gorbachyova is learning a triksel (3A+3T): https://www.instagram.com/alinochka_gorbacheva/

Judging from Gorbachyova's IG and her trainer's https://www.instagram.com/sofya_fedchenko/ and club https://www.instagram.com/triumph_skating__academy/ , Alina is working very hard to get recognised. And being from the regions and unaffiliated club (private enterprise?), she has to work double hard to get into the picture.

And there is a whole lot of other 12-13 year olds ready to advance when an opening occurs.

BTW Russian junior ladies for the next JGP season are probably:
Valieva
Usacheva
Khromykh
Petrosian
Samodelkina
Muravyova?

And at least one else.
Other than those who have already been mentioned, Tarakanova potentially could be in the mix here? A fourth season on the JGP would be a bit strange, but it could happen. She's been failed by RusFed, judges, luck, and costume designers this season, so hopefully next season will be somewhat salvaged, but its hard to see how. Even if she gets a JGP spot its hard to see her doing well compared to Eteri's 4 and Samodelkina. Maybe she could sneak into the final somehow, but even so, she's already been there twice and medalled once. I wish there were some way she could get a GP but it seems impossible at this point.

I think Samodelkina might be the next big thing and if Adelya gets an ultra-c element then she could be a challenge to Valieva too. But I really want Muravyova to get a spot, since she's been able to improve so much coachless and honestly her skating skills and performance ability are really very mature.

How has the Fed failed Tarakanova? Because they made her go against Alysa Liu - she was either going to have to go up against Liu or Valieva on the GP series. A lot of Tarankova's problems stem from her own choices; leaving coaches right and left, and she was planning on leaving the sport when she left Eteri - which is well within her rights, but there are consequences to that: less Fed support for a skater that they aren't sure wants to compete and certainly constant disruption in changing coaches can't be helping her progress to where she can compete with the top skaters.

By not giving her a challenger event mainly.

I doubt she would make it, even if she was eligible. Her latest results weren't good enough. Frolova is very probable. Tarakanova... that's a big question mark what will happen to her, she's not posting on Youtube about skating anymore.. :scratch2:

Interesting facts: Since 2010, Russian ladies won all but one Junior worlds.

Only time JW gold went to other country was when Tsurskaya went down due to Injury shortly before competition and Fedechkina sprained her ankle after winning SP, in the end Marin Honda finished Ahead of Maria Sotskova(who was the only Russian lady in FP).

From last 10 JWs Eteri's Skaters won 6, and in total, won 11 medals (6-4-1) from 30 possible. In same timespan, Russians won 20(9-8-4) medals from possible 30.

Last time somebody not from Russia-USA-Japan won medal at junior worlds was 14 years ago (Yuna Kim). In this century, only 4 non RUS-US-JP ladies managed to win medals( Sarah Meier,Susanna Pöykiö,Carolina Kostner,Yuna Kim(twice)), that is 5 medals from 63 possible.

Since Alena Leonova won gold in 2009, Russian has always had at least one lady at Podium (in fact, Russia lost Gold medal only twice since 2009, Both to Japanese Ladies), While before Leonova, last Russian medalist at ladies JW was Kristina Oblasova who won gold in 2001.

Interesting BOT. So Masha not winning gold cost Russia 10 Junior girl gold medals in a row. Interesting. How many in a row have the Russian girls won? 5?

Yes, it's not that long ago, but the 00's were really the "Black Years" for Russian Ladies. After the old school skaters like Butyrskaya, Slutskaya, Volchkova and Sokolova finished their careers, there really wasn't anyone to take over. In seniors, there were no medals at Worlds after Slutskaya's gold in 2005 until Leonova's surprise silver in 2012.

Worst result at Worlds was in 2008, where the only Russian, the RusNat Champion Ksenia Doronina, placed 17th (!!!)

More like Horrible luck (both Tsurskaya and Fedechkina getting injured) cost Russians 10 gold medals in a row.

Especially Polina who was having amazing season, winning JGP and Junior Olympics.

Right now Russian ladies stand at 4 in a row (Alina, Alexandra,Alexandra and Kamila),Marin Honda broke 5 year Russian winning streak in 2016.

Moscow Major has ordered the cancellation of any public event with more than 5000 spectators, at least until April 9.

Which could mean the big FFKKR winners gala might be in jeopardy. And perhaps the Tutberidze Show of Champions too if other regions/city administrations follow.

Navka thinks of moving the show, for which she is producer, but the final decision lies with the City Office and FFKKR: https://rsport.ria.ru/20200310/1568405302.html

That was horrible luck. Polina would have won at that year. Why didn't Russia replace her with Alina or nastya?
