2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

In Russia Spartakiada is truly quite prestigeous competition.

Originally, Spartakiad was the USSR's version of Olympiad.

Now, it is a youth oriented (i.e. younger than university student) multi sports event, in Summer and Winter editions, where cities and regions compete against each other.

Looking at the lists of participants, it isn't under the CSKA column, only clubs with different affiliations participate.

My prediction for the junior national team next year

Finals of Russian Superiority in the Older Age still has to proceed, early April.

Those eligible for next year's JPG might compete here.

Kamila Sultanmagomedova was screwed over by biased judging in Moscow City Superiority (which is under the CSKA column), so a CSKA skater could get the final Moscow quota for the Finals :-(

Will Tarakanova be on the JGP for a fourth season? She can't move up to seniors, can she?

Anastasiya Tarakanova is in a precarious position I think. Despite fighting for what she is worth in the JPG, her domestic results were very low or absent. If she doesn't advance to some senior reserve list, she is probably done in the juniors. Her future depends on the powers in charge giving her one more chance, probably her final chance.

Spartakiad shoud show the state of figure skating in regions.

It does, but doesn't change the overall picture. Moscow and Piter rule, and the regions trail. Lots of taller/bigger/mature looking girls in the regions compared to same age girls from the top rinks where the regime is toughest.

Not only regime. Selection in the Centrals is much more struct and simultaneously wider.

FFKKR just gave notice all remaining 'national' events have been cancelled. Including the most important Russian Superiority in the Older Age.

Hopefully, Spartakiad will continue as planned, tomorrow girls free skate and I want to see Gorbachyova on the podium ...

There are still lots of smaller and more regional events on the calender, but one has to fear for their cancelling too.

Unless you start to invest seriously in other oblasts, not much will ever change.

Yes they put some money in Sochi (cause they didn't want Olympics facilities to be ruined), Krasnodar,... Gazprom did back the Children of Asia competition in Sakhalin which is very close to Japan.

But skaters still want to move to SPB or Moscow due to better funding, more successful clubs, i assume quality of life is better with more resources... and you know coaches will always use that to their advantage. CSKA, Sambo70,... they all have their pools they can pick the best talents.

It is somewhat encouraging that we saw some success with Pairs skaters from Perm, or here with Ladies Alina Gorbacheva did well in the Short and she represents Tverskaya oblast. But at the same time, you have like Kseniia Akhanteva again from Pairs, born in Vladivostok but representing Saint Peter.

Also yes it is bizarre the event hasn't been canceled yet, but it's all part of the vague measures Russia is taking to stop the outbreak, i assume it will stay the same up until April.

Tuktamysheva, Lipnitskaya, Tsurskaya, Zagitova, Trusova and Valieva are from regions.

Doesn't matter cause by the time you move to SPB or Moscow you represents those cities_ the money you get from winning competitions goes to Moscow and SPB clubs.

It is true that some groups are maybe okay being like Sambo70 kindergarten, cause they can get something in return too.

I'm just saying regions managed to bring up future top skaters as well. Alina learned most of her excellent rittberger in Izhevsk, Yulia had her I spins in Yekaterinburg already. If you pumped money into regions, creating decent coaching and specialists base, they could probably catch Moscow in a long run with the talent pool they have.

From Ted's interview:

on Eteri & her team:
Canadian commentator Ted Barton shared his opinion on the work of Eteri Tutberidze, the honored coach of Russia in figure skating.
“First of all, I have to pay tribute to all Russian coaches, but the work that Eteri Tutberidze, Sergey Dudakov and Daniil Gleichengauz, as well as their coaching staff are doing is simply unimaginable.
You can have one good athlete, two, but they have all the athletes that show an incredible level. I do not mean quadruple jumps (they are good), not triple axels (this is excellent), not their perfect jumps and rotations. The programs themselves are wonderful, whether you like them or not, but the details, skating skills, interpretation that they are taught at such a young age is amazing!
And it like that with every skater in their group. They can skate badly and be in fifth place, but the work that is being done by this coaching staff is simply unbelievable.
In the junior championship in Russia there was a young lady who was not from the Eteri group, who performed a quad. And we could see other coaches who watched this and their facial expressions made it clear that they, too, were not going to stop: “We will beat this!” They are working on it.
This is good for sports, and this is a tribute to Eteri, whether you like it or not, and her team for the work done. She inspires a new generation of coaches in Russia and abroad, I tell you. All over the world they look at her, at her coaches and athletes and say: “They have two arms, two legs and a head, like our children have. Why can't we do the same? ”
This is always the case in history: there is a leader, there are people who follow him, and there are those who challenge the leader. This is life, ”said Barton.

From Ted's interview, on Alina:

Alina is an Olympic champion and a World champion. She won everything there is. She was the best when she represented her country at the highest level. Alina Zagitova is an incredible Russian athlete.
What will her life be like? Whatever she wants. She did everything she could to make the country proud of her. Her choice is her choice. Whether it's a return to the competition or a continuation of the path in other areas. I have nothing against either.
She did her job and deserves to choose what she wants, ” Barton said.

Channel One behind the scenes from Junior Worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cx58kvTuF4 , as usual with lovely close ups, slow motion scenes, montage to nice music.

Maya sounded especially relieved and thankful :-)

Kamila telling her rink mates are both her opponents and friends :-) Sneaking her way back into a corner of the rink to support Dar'ya.

Dar'ya, always the neat and prim girl, with her hair wild in the EX ;-)

Thanks and Thumbs Up to Channel One for serving us this treat, a real uplift in the difficult times that are now falling upon us.

I want Kamila's Storm EX to be her next SP or FS or at the very least her EX next season too, it's absolutely beautiful! Daniil needs to let her hold some spirals and ina bauers!

I thought Sultanmagomedova was from Moscow too, I was surprised originally when she was only alternate for nationals but still did quite well. Does she have a chance for any international assignments with Samodelkina and Petrosyan coming up?

Kamila S is almost 15 and unproven, and probably of too low 'striking force' to be considered valuable on the junior international circuit.
She trains at Chaikovskaya's rink, which is under Sambo-70. Kamila won "Samarochka" with 195 something, but probably to different rules https://allskaters.info/kamila_sultanmagomedova/

Now the Russian Superiority in the Older Age got cancelled, who knows how the rankings for next season junior and jnr reserve teams will be compiled? FFKKR can go by the tallied results, which should be available hidden in some website.

Haven't heard anything about Kostyuk.

Kostyuk was in #TeamPanova, right? A lot of skaters have left Snow Leopards this season, to be never seen nor heard of again.
