2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Pretty sure I commented on something you started.

But yes people should just remain calm cool and collected. Maybe that's why I Sasha is acting the way she is. It's better to be that way then to be paranoid and panicked.

Agree about the people should keep their wits about them, but Trusova 'acting the way she is' - is potentially breaking the law.

Do you realize what you are saying about the quad Queen? That's pretty strong Amei. Plus we don't even know when that video of her roller skating was taken. But I do agree with you that if Sasha is doing these things and breaking rules and laws then a misdemeanor charge or fine could be levied against her and deservedly so. One of her fans could see her acting like nothing is wrong and then do the same thing and get sick.

Are people in Russia not allowed to go outside? I didn’t see anything wrong with her roller skating video

I don't think fans seeing her is much of a concern, because for most people who haven't just come in from another country, walking (or skating) around on a deserted street is totally allowed and safe, and is in fact encouraged everywhere that I've seen for exercise. I can't speak to whether what Sasha is doing is allowed/safe because I don't know the specific quarantine rules for someone who's just come into Russia from another country. But as for posting a video of it, I don't think its a bad influence or anything, because taking walks on empty streets is what everyone is doing and its safe for most people.

I don't know. Some people are upset with her roller skating video. She is a child we have to cut her some slack it's her parents who have to be in control and educate and advise their children on what to do in a pandemic.

Fair points Happy. It's also frustrating and confusing.

Anyone complaining about Sasha.really should be complaining about her parents. 15 year olds even if they're incredible athletes like Sasha aren't the best at decision-making. But the parents are supposed to be.

It may also turn out to be really really bad pr if things get worse: coming straight after the Egypt trip, she risks coming off less feisty and independent and more arrogant and indifferent to other people. Like Medvedeva's Japanese trip, not a good look to the average person stuck at home (there was a Chinese Australian a couple of weeks back who decided she was above lockdown rules, went jogging and ended up both fired from her job and deported. I'm not saying either Trusova or Medvedeva think they are above rules - I have no idea - but in a time when the average person's life is stressed and hemmed in, people in the limelight need to think).

However, it depends on the rules there - here in my Australian town, going for exercise is okay as long as you keep the required distance (next door's son skateboarded down to the shop this morning for his mum. He isn't famous of course, and doesn't promptly put his jaunts up on sm, so no one blinks.)

My initial post on this debacle is that it highlights that the Fed needs to step in and get some media training for their athletes or at least the high-profile ones (coaches could probably stand to be included) - there have been several incidents with athletes doing really stupid things (in the case of Trusova - perhaps illegal) and posting them to their social media pages, or giving really bad interviews like Gubanova or the skater that made the doping remark about eating chocolate (can't remember the exact context of the remark).

About the 170cm debate, yes. I know it seems to be discriminatory and categorizing and whatnot but to be honest, in sports like figure skating and gymnastics, there are things about bodies that exist and well. Just like if you say that it's almost impossible for a woman to learn a quad after 16 or whatever and then point to Tuktamysheva, of course that is incredible but it is so far, an exception that is not able to be replicated. And just like that, gymnasts and skaters over 170 cm face many more challenges in many areas for many reasons.

Ohhh ok. I personally did not see anything wrong with the roller skating video, but I understand people’s concerns about it. I just don’t understand why people are only hating on Sasha for roller skating outside. I have seen other ice skaters post exercising videos of them outside and I haven’t seen many negative comments towards them. I was actually excited when I saw it because I am a roller skater, so I thought that it was cool to see Sasha on in-line skates

Because she and her family were evacuated by the government at the last moment from Egypt. By law, she must be quarantined for two weeks. Be at home. There were cases when people returning from abroad violated the quarantine and infected people. Because these people thought "I am special", "It can't be that I can infect someone. May be someone else can does it, but obviously not me", "The country is big, and I am small, I will definitely not hurt anyone" etc. So yes - at these days, this type of behavior - " oh, come on, this is all nonsense!", "I'm not going to sit at home all these two weeks! are you crazy?"- can irritate many people.

the 'issue' with Trusova is that her and her family are supposed to be under quarantine because they went to Egypt (had to be evacuated out as well) during this pandemic, and there's a potential that she's breaking the law.

Sasha to me is like a big lion cub always full of energy and wants to play around. I am sure she's much more humble and innocent than she is arrogant and entitled.

Australia is not fooling around by the deporting that Chinese Australian after she got fired. Damn. But we can't fool around with this virus because it's invisible and oh so contagious.

As for Evgenia I was surprised to learn she flew from Canada to Japan so soon after they just cancelled the Tokyo Summer Olympics four months out because of the Coronavirus. Someone in Zhenyas thread said she had contractual obligations to be there and I am sure that is accurate. If she's not there she may not get paid and may lose a lot of yen. Is it risky business? Yes.

Amei the Fed seems to be in the Dark Ages on a lot of issues. For sure their athletes and coaches need to be trained better so they can be more aware of situations. I don't blame Sasha too much. Her parents should be the decision makers for a lot of these things. And that foolish interview that Nastya did is something that could have and should have been avoided if she had an experienced person in her life to explain to her why not to speak to this rodina hack. As for the doping comment that girl is now skating for Ukraine and a silly joke by her changed her career and life forever. Sad. Again it comes back to the media training or lack thereof by the Russian Federation. They need to step into 20/20 modern times.

As for anyone who wants Sasha punished by the Federation I cannot see that happening. Her parents took her to Egypt amid a worldwide panic and she was evidently skating around in the street without anyone else around her. I cannot see her getting in trouble for that. But it is frustrating for millions and millions and millions of people stuck at home and who wear masks when they go into stores and surgical gloves to see people still traveling all around the world. We are only Human After all and we get frustrated by being in basically home detention for the foreseeable future. And this virus will change the world forever nothing will ever be the same. There will be more distance between people in the future world wide and less hand shaking and hugging upon greeting. Sad. But they say one of the main problems with the flu is its transferred easily just from handshaking alone. Hmmm. Again sad because people have been shaking hands since the caveman days.

People jump on Sasha too easily. I see her as more fun and adorable than arrogant and entitled. But someone needs to explain to her why it does not look good for her to be outside roller skating when she supposed to be quarantined. I do not blame her for not understanding this. I hope you're as good as Sasha is at roller skating GVO! 😜

It was actually China that the jogger got thrown out of, from what I read she decided to flout the regulation in one of the lockdown cities and argued with the police when they came to tell her to get back to her apartment.

Fans do dump on Trusova - on so many of the elite skaters, look at the even younger Alysa Liu - rather more than justified. However, in these fraught and media driven times, it is horribly easy for someone in an entitled position (however justified that entitlement is, and yes in her case I do think it is in the main) to earn the public's resentment if they appear to throw that entitlement in the public's face, however thoughtlessly, and twice in the space of a couple of weeks.

I expect that she will now stop and think before a third one... because the usual path to allay criticism (get out there and win and make them proud) is barred, and who knows for how long?

What irritates me the most is that in all the yellow pages in their every article and their social media outings, it says 'pupil of Tutberidze' in all kinds of accusatory tones and implications.

There is no article on figure skating even in the more serious press which doesn't mention 'Tutberidze', and most often in a derogatory and negative way.

i think it will be really interesting to see what happens when everyone is allowed to skate again- how long until then, we don't know. even 3 weeks off is literally f o r e v e r to an athlete. i hope everyone but especially 3A are able to get their elements and triple axels and quads back easily and this time off doesn't have too big of an effect on them.

AFAIK Japanese skaters are still training.

Regarding to 3 weeks being forever. Khrustalny had 2 weeks long holiday every year anyway, skaters are also taking time off due to injuries so I doubt a month is going to create big difference.

If this goes on for 2-3 months or longer then of course it will be a different story, but lets hope for the best.

It is ridiculous. No wonder EG does not like the media.

On another note, Anna is really lucky to have nice property outside of city, Her yard should be good enough to run for hours without getting bored to death (I have run 10K with 60m 'laps' it's boring, but totally doable )

This is something I wondered. Is jumping technique on in-line skaters similar to figure skating? So, if you do a Salchow, will it be roughly the same? Or will it mess up your on-ice technique if you train on in-line skates too much?
