Daniil Gleikhengauz: “ We can confirm as coaching staff that Sasha Trusova is no longer training in our group ”
Today's news about skater Aleksandra Trusova was the focus of media attention. And although at the moment there is no official appeal and statement by the athlete to FFKKR regarding the transition, the Federation’s press attaché Olga Yermolina contacted the trainer and choreographer of the group Daniil Gleikhengauz with a request to clarify the situation.
- Since the news about the transition of Aleksandra Trusova was circulating in the media, can you confirm this fact?
- Yes, we can confirm as coaching staff that Sasha is no longer training in our group. Her parents informed us about this. Each of us trainers talked with the athlete's parents on the phone. Personally, I could not talk with Sasha. She did not answer our phone calls.
- What was the reason? The media write that the coaches of your group did not give the athlete proper attention.
- Of course, this is an absolute farce. It would have been impossible to make Sasha this unique athlete, who got into the Guinness Book of Records and is fighting for a leading position, without working properly. How can a team not bet on one of its main athletes, who performs this season in seniors?
The work was enormous. Sasha’s shape on the eve of the World Championships, which did not take place for well-known reasons: everyone could see on the video that she posted on her Instagram. I myself shot this video in training. We were going to compete in Canada with five quadruples. The season was very difficult. And I want to note that during her growth period, we not only kept what we had already learned, but also introduced new quadruple jumps along the way, and her program became more and more complicated all the time.
Sometimes not everything worked out at competitions, but the task of our coaching staff was to prepare each athlete for the start as best as possible so that the skater was at the peak of her form. And then they go on the ice, compete with each other and their judges evaluate their skating.
We worry about everyone. They are all our athletes, and we support everyone like our relatives, because we spend more time with them than with anyone else in life. Therefore, to say that Sasha did not have enough attention ... This is absolutely not true. We spend almost all our time with the skaters and give ourselves completely to our work.
- How do you comment on the choice of Yevgeniy Plyushchenko as her coach?
- Everyone knows Yevgeniy Viktorovich as a famous athlete who achieved high results. But for now, it’s difficult to say something about his coaching career. There are no athletes whom he's raised yet. The athletes who switched to him, Sotnikova, Sakhanovich, Tarakanova, none of them showed better results than with their previous coaches. I perfectly understand that they want to develop. They have a wonderful background, with the help of which for several years they have been trying to call on both athletes and coaches. I can’t talk about other groups, but we have already encountered this. Both amounts and (contents of) contacts are known.
Apparently, during this period, they found people who wanted to work on their conditions, to change something. This applies to both Sasha, although, given her age, everything is decided by her parents, as well as coach Sergey Rozanov. But he is an adult and makes these decisions himself. To say that something did not suit him is ridiculous. This is my friend whom I myself invited to work with us after asking Eteri Georgiyevna. Prior to this, Sergey was engaged in prep skating. And like all the coaches of our group, he grew up, gained knowledge, technique, what we have in our group. I spoke in detail about our work in an interview after the Junior World Championships, that we have a “common technique”. And when Sergey came to us, we also introduced him into our system and taught him what we know ourselves.
Of course, we are disappointed with the transitions, but we will continue to work. We know where we are going. We have a system. We are a family. We move on.
Right now, the world is in a the situation much more serious than our small problems inside figure skating. Therefore, I'd like to wish that the coronavirus pandemic would soon come to an end, and all people could regain their normal life.
