2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I think this is quite perceptive on Maria's part. She did seem to lack self-confidene in the early part of her career and to skate tentatively in her biggest competitions. I think the chage helped her get her head on the right track. maybe the new coach believed in her more strongly.

Difference here is, Aleksandra never lacked any self-confidence as far as we could see. She is a true sportsperson, she attacked every competition with full force and conviction.
#TeamTutberidzeForProgress fully believed in her, Aleksandra, and most likely her father, lost their belief in the former coaching team.

Scandal and intrigue are words often used by the press in Russian figure skating. The sport is one of the most popular, and probably the most popular sport with the female audience.
Though most of the yellow pages in sports tend to cater to the male audience.

....

This transition is probably the defining event in Trusova’s career, who will turn 16 in June: she has gigantic opportunities, but so far has not won anything at senior level. And now, if she wins, without the participation of Eteri Tutberidze.

What the heck? Did we all collectively imagine her winning Skate Canada and Rostelecom? I'm pretty sure they gave medals out for that.

I have to say, at the very least this whole thing has made me realise that the Aussie media aren't the only ones who set ridiculous goals for their athletes then proceed to tear them to shreds at the slightest falter. Who writes this trash?

Just hope and pray your favourite Russian lady doesn't end up getting the same treatment!

Mariya Butyrskaya commented on Trusova’s departure from Tutberidze

The famous skater believes that Aleksandra could "offer some interesting things"

The transfer of the skater Aleksandra Trusova from Eteri Tutberidze to Yevgeniy Plyushchenko led to another scandal in the world of sports. The famous skater Mariya Butyrskaya explained what could have caused this abrupt change of coach.

In recent days, three athletes left the team of Eteri Tutberidze: among the most famous are the bronze medalist of the European Championship and the Grand Prix Finals, Aleksandra Trusova. For a merited trainer of Russia, this would seem to be a powerful blow. However, venerable ice stars told MK that Tutberidze only lost a little with the departure of Trusova.

The first Russian World Champion in women's single skating, three-time European Champion Mariya Butyrskaya put forward her version of Trusova’s departure from Tutberidze.

- This is a difficult question - the reason for a coaching change .. So, there was some kind of ambiguity between the athlete and the coach. In figure skating, this situation happens quite often, ” Mariya began. - Dropouts never occur instantly. Often a person feels that something is missing, something is interfering. He wants to try himself with another coach, believing that the result will be better. Dissatisfaction involves various factors, let’s say so.

-- Trusova’s decision to leave the team of the strongest coach shocked fans of figure skating ...

- This is normal. Moreover, Sasha did not train for long with Eteri, she left Aleksandr Volkov not so long ago ... Therefore ... Who knows. She decided that she would be more comfortable in the team of Yevgeniy Plyushchenko. I would not like to tell any nasty things in this situation. All the same, we will never know the truth, and we don’t have bother ourselves over it now - time itself will judge.

-- Did Aleksandra do the right thing in terms of the level of coaching?

- In any case, this is her decision. Therefore, no one has the right to take this choice from her.

-- Have you had “incomprehensible” situations with your coach, because of which you had to leave?

- I didn't. I’ve switched only once in my life. From one coach to another famous coach Yelena Anatolyevna Tchaikovskaya, but in my situation it was such a right and competent decision that I've never regretted it.

I’ll explain, before Tchaikovskaya, I understood that I did not fully realize myself as an athlete. I needed a very strong incentive. Yelena Anatolyevna very strongly supported me at that moment. Before her, they told me that I was the “queen of training,” but I couldn’t get it done in actual competition. Although they gave me the equipment, it wasn’t in the right mood. But Yelena Anatolyevna very quickly dealt with this.

-- A coach for the skater is like a second mom?

- It is very important for an athlete to feel comfortable with their coach, there should be no irritation in work. In a combination of a coach and an athlete, there should be respect and absolute trust. I explained to you earlier, we will not know until the end what happened between Sasha and Eteri. How this all happened is hard to understand. Did Sasha come to this? Or was she invited and offered some interesting things? Perhaps Aleksandra herself will tell later. But leaving your trainer is so natural in figure skating that I would not even pay attention. Eteri Georgiyevna has a lot of good athletes. She has Shcherbakova, Kostornaya, who performed at the European Championships together with Trusova. I repeat, she has a lot of good athletes. She will not be left without skaters, and Sasha ...

-- What is the strength of Tutberidze?

- Personally, I like that Eteri Georgiyevna has competition in the team. It would really encourage me! The more competitive people next to you, the more you try, you look at them and think: “Yeah, I’ll go too, I’ll do something too, something else!” For an athlete, the desire to emulate someone is very useful! Watching as someone jumps quadruples and thinking: “I’ll go! And I will do it too! ”

Maria making total sense of this move by Sasha. Why can't we all do that?

My main concern for Sasha now is not the drop-off in coaching that she will receive and the lack of competition at the rink everyday but how tall she will grow. She grew at least a couple inches last season and that may have played a role in her jquads getting messed up from time to time. And if somehow in the next year or so she grows as tall as stanislava is doing all her incredible quad jumps will be very difficult. We have to hope Mother Nature is kind to Sasha in the next year or two.

Why would that be such a bad thing? There are plenty of skaters who keep their jumps after growing taller? The coaching team just have to be willing to be patient with her and help prevent injury in the process.

I mean I’m not sure we know that for ladies. Sasha was really the first lady with quads so how can we know for sure that it’s possible to keep them after growth spurts or body changes? I suspect it’s possible but it hasn’t really been done yet. Elizabet only successfully landed one quad in competition and has been injured ever since. And she gained a quad after she reached her adult body. Anna is the other lady who started quads prior to seniors so she is another test to see if she is able to continue to maintain them into adulthood.

Bonaly, Ando, Cohen, Ito, Harding, Nakano, Nelidina, Asada, Nagasu, Tuktamysheva. All ladies landing elements that require more rotation than your standard triple jump and they are all taller than Sasha. That doesn’t even include the current ladies (Young You for example) who are significantly taller and are landing these elements. Sasha has the benefit of muscle memory from childhood with the quads. If her coaches do it right she should be okay and be able to retain at least most of them. Unless of course there is a giant flaw in technique that doesn’t allow it to work for different body types, in which case she will have to adapt her technique, but it’s doable.

Because Sasha wants to do 5 quads in a free skate or 4 and a triple axel. She is setting the bar awfully high. Especially someone who has grown a few inches in the last year. Whatever happens will be fascinating to see play out. That is if there is a next season. And if we have events without fans that will hurt Sasha because she needs the roar of the crowd. She lives for that.

Dream big as they say. I was just watching a Yuzu documentary earlier today and it showed a clip of 11 year old him saying he wants to land quints or 4.5 revolution jumps. Mans out here with two Olympic gold medals and still dreaming even bigger. Big aspirations make big champions. I’m interested to see how she handles all the challenges she will face, but I’m sure she will do great!

Sasha wants 4Lo, now the most valuable jump, thanks to ISU. OK, same value as other major jumps, regardless.
No chance for 4Ax or 5X, so she may safely retire.

Not to be nit-picky or anything ;) , but Midori Ito is 4 foot 9 (145 cm). (Kristy Yamaguchi, that giantess at 4 foot 11, towered over her.)

Why not? Rozanov actually taught a quad to a lady/girl. Orser and Ghislain as far I know haven't, so I don't know if they are better.
Lilibet was training 4S during her years at TCC. There are videos on this.

In any case, going for an unproven coach like Plushenko(which many2 have commented as such abt Trusova moving to him) when Evgenia is training with a well renowned coach is not logical. Orser, known as Mr 3A improved Evgenia's 2A a lot.
Ghislain, is now known as the jump coach guru.

Evgenia went over to Orser when she was older, 18. With serious injuries. With all of this, plus correcting her technique, not sure if she'll ever get a 4S.
Evgenia has also said interviews she will not skate with broken legs anymore or something like that.

Jason Brown is another student who went to TCC as an adult, at 24. He still hasnt landed a 4T or 4S in competition after 2 seasons. There is no lack of male skaters who can jump quads at TCC so one cant say Orser & Tracy Wilson are not effective.

I’m sorry- when did Cohen ever land a quad or triple axel in actual competition?

I didn’t say she did. Just that she was landing them with her more ‘mature’ body. Obviously knowing this we already know Sasha is at an advantage having already landed them in competition with a level of consistency before growing any further. I just don’t like the narrative that growth is to be feared in figure skating. There are incredible women who have gone before that show it is possible. :)

If I right remember she landed in 4S

"In actual competition". She landed 4S during the warm-up at skate America in 2001, but poped it in competition.

Edit: She also tried to jump 4S it at Finlandia Trophy the same year, but fell.
