2019-20 U.S. Ladies Figure Skating

Agree, and yet, I suspect NBC will milk the Gracie Gold angle ad nauseaum. A shame as Mariah, Bradie and Alysa have earned the right to be the focus of Nationals this year.

NBC needs to leave her alone. Just let her skate.

This is true. And regarding her qualifying placement and seasonal scores she would be about 9th and two above her are injured. Top 6 looks very much in reach with a bit of work.

Spousal unit was born in Springfield, Missouri. Of course he was born in Springfield because Bolivar, Missouri was too small to have a hospital. He’s OK with Gracie calling Springfield a flyover city. He says you don’t want to know what Bolivar was. ;)

And didn’t Gracie grow up in a small Midwestern town? I’m not sure she meant this as a sign of disrespect .

Springfield is 3 hours from me. I’ve watched the video and still don’t understand. Did she change rinks? Was she just stopping by on her way back to PA? I’m ready to get in the car and go.

Gracie has dominated a lot of the discussion on this thread, even though she has only competed twice. Whether that conversation is good, bad, or indifferent, she is getting more attention on here and in the media than all the other US ladies put together. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but it has been interesting to see what people think is ok to speculate and what isn't.

I think a lot of that is due to the fact that she, and Ashley, were really the last World medal contenders we've had. (Karen did come in 4th at Worlds but that might have been her only solid international outing in her career.) There is a lot of support for Bradie and Mariah, but it's understandable that fans miss the US women being competitive for major international podiums, so Gracie holds a special place in a lot of people's hearts. I hope she skates well enough to get international assignments next season and continues to improve.

Most US ladies have only competed twice this season though. And I agree- I see many skaters posting skating related clips on their social media. I have always enjoyed Gracies skating and was sincerely worried about her during her last full competitive season. It was difficult to watch her struggling, because we- as skating fans and human beings- recognized she was in trouble. I’m certain the other skaters look up to her. Let’s just enjoy the comeback and hope the experience is positive for her. Nobody expects her to win, but I think everyone in the skating community will support her.

I’m feeling sorry for Gracie after reading some of these posts. It sounds like some are already resenting her for having the courage and strength to want to come back to skating. I doubt her competitors and skating family will be too upset to see her getting a mention on NBC. She is a National Champion, and placed 4th at the Olympics. This is the girl that at her best had the potential to beat Medvedeva/ when Medvedeva was at her peak. I’m happy for her and can’t wait to see her compete. No matter where she places, I’m excited to have her back.
Alysa, Mariah and Bradie will all get their own attention. They also deserve it.

I don’t mind a mention. I would mind NBC again pushing her as the great hope of US skating. She has a very unfortunate name (for skating). Gracie Gold! Beautiful ice princess! (Even though we are realistic about her chances, that would not stop NBC from putting very unrealistic expectations on her for the sake of ratings).

But then aren't we holding Bradie and Mariah to unfair standards? Neither Ashley or Gracie at their best could be competitive with today's top skaters because of the rapid advancement in tech content and it isn't like Ashley and Gracie skated in a bygone era.

Gracie should be feel supported, but so should everyone else who steps out on the ice. Unfortunately, there is always an imbalance of support because that is how competitive sports work. People usually laud either the best of the best or those with the most inspiring story.

(Just want to say my post isn't aimed at you and I hope it doesn't come off that way. I just saw you replied to me directly and I started to respond and all of these things seem like they belong in the same post :) )

It has been like that since I started posting on this board. In fact at her height if used to be worse. One post about her on the Edge forum, not even Ladies thread would garner hundreds of responses. She seems to be almost as polarizing as a politician. Some love her, some really seem to hate her. For me there’s no other ladies skater. ❤️

Current Bradie and Mariah would both have beaten Gracie and Ashley back in the day. Either way both groups of ladies have given much to the sport and have a lot to be proud of.

I'm always so torn about Bradie. I feel like she doesn't get the attention she deserves for the quality she puts out but then on the other hand it might actually be healthier for Bradie to plod along and not have the stress that comes with a lot of hype.

It wouldn't surprise me if she lays low and then shows up with a 3A or quad next season. The artistry is there already imo (the rate at which she was able to improve her artistry is quite astounding). She skates beautifully and she skates big. Just need to cure the URs and maybe get a mega jump.

Bradie has narrow hips and shoulders, and more importantly, she rotates fast, so there is no reason why she couldn't do a quad. She is really going to need one by next year. I think she is one of the hardest working kids on the planet, so it could happen.

But this is what I don’t understand, the talk about run-throughs appears to be nothing but pure speculation .

I have seen nothing, no proof, no articles, no anything that actually showed that Gracie wasn’t doing run-throughs. Just speculation. I remember when I asked was there anything to support the speculation, one answer I received was well look at how tired she was. So, nothing to support the speculation.

And of course posting on Instagram has diddly squat to do with whether someone is practicing and how long they are practicing and how they are practicing. Again, speculation

I wish Gracie the best and I hope she achieves whatever results she’s looking for at Nationals.

completely agree. it really irked me when TSL made a stab at her and vincent a month or so back before sectionals, re posting a seconds long clip of her doing a quad in a harness. somehow they inferred from that that she was doing little to no runthroughs. i don't understand how anyone can come to that conclusion by watching a 10 second video clip with no other insight or knowledge on how long shes on the ice or how she spends her ice time, or any other training for that matter.

i would assume Gracie has a plan and a goal for nationals, and i would think it would include doing well enough to earn a senior b next year, and possibly even the 3rd skate america spot. there is only 1 season left before the next olympic season, and she's going to have to gain some momentum on the international stage before 2022 arrives.

I think 2016 Nationals Gracie would do very well against the current ladies. She had a Lutz-Toe combo and Mariah has a Flip combo. I don't think Gracie will have her Lutz combo at this years Nationals though.

Bradie is one of the best competitors that U.S. ladies has had in a long while in terms of being able to land all of her content and not be fazed in competition.

Also, is Mariah not competing between now and Nationals?

Wow. They look so much better.

They do look better! Not perfect, but better and that’s all we can ask for. She has a huge chance to win here, Kamila showed no quads in practice so it’s unclear if she will even attempt one. If she doesn’t, and Alysa goes fairly clean I don’t see how she can’t win tbh.

It looks like she's been working on a lot of things, especially her expressiveness. Everything is improving little by little, and I'm sure she'll increase her speed across the ice over the next year.

Where was this video taken? Never mind, I didn't realize that the JGPF was starting tomorrow.
