In her debut at this event, Japan's Rika Kihira rose from fifth to capture the gold in the Ladies' discipline at the 2019 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. Elizabet Tursynbaeva of Kazakhstan, who won the silver, became the first lady from her country in figure skating to earn a medal at an ISU Championship. Defending silver medalist Mai Mihara of Japan rose from eighth to snatch the bronze, edging teammate Kaori Sakamoto off the podium by a mere 0.33 point.
Kihira said she wanted to "give her all" to today's performance and "leave yesterday's mistakes" behind.
"I was able to keep my concentration, and these two factors were the reasons for my solid performance today," said the 2018-19 Grand Prix Final champion. "During this season, I learned how to keep my concentration in my free skating no matter what happens in my short program."
