Burden/Pagano (skating to Here Comes the Sun) have a lot of potential--they skate with unison well beyond their years. Looking forward to seeing them in the future! (perhaps a JGP next year)

Watching the free skate. I'm watching Larson/Hubbart with interest, as they were last year's intermediate champions, but they're buried pretty well in midfield, I think. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they split or quit this year, to be totally honest--their skating seems very rough and there's not a lot of connection or spark there. He does look exhausted though, so it's possible there's injury or illness in play.

I see what you mean about Burden/Pagano!

Thoughts after watching the last group--

Burden/Pagano: nice unison, I think they've got some potential. They finished in 5th, missing the podium by a third of a point
Goldstein/Bearinger: great lifts, a deserved win
Smirnova/Siiantysia: another strong team
Fleming/Isbell: really rough skate for them, but they still managed a silver medal. Good for them.

I unfortunately missed the 4th place finishers, but the rest of the top 5 look ready for juniors, to my eye. There were some really strong throws and a lot of potential all around. By and large, it's just the polishing up, especially of unison/connection and spins that I'm seeing. Some teams' lifts need a bit of growth too. Not that they were scary, just not as smooth as they'll want them to be.

I really don't see the hand-wringing about US skaters. I think there's some potential in all the disciplines coming up, including pairs. None of them are earth-shatteringly exciting (yet!), but certainly some teams that will be nice and solid in international outings, and again, lots of potential.
