2020-21 U.S. Men's Figure Skating

Assignments for second JGP in Courchevel:

- Kai Kovar
- Maxim Zharkov

(Women: Lee, Levito; Dance: Browns, Flores/Tsarevski)

This week's Icemen chat between Sean Rabbitt and Camden Pulkinen was the best one yet.
(And the previous ones featuring others also had been good.)

Sean and Camden's very uplifting conversation was full of warm friendship, interesting anecdotes, great smiles, positive energy ... and tons of encouragement for younger men in the sport.

Andrew, Nathan and other team Raf skaters helped to get some homeless kids on ice in and taught them how to skate this past weekend

ETA: tweet from the Rinks

Always so nice to see skaters giving back. Hats off to Nathan and Andrew for this terrific example.

For anyone who did not catch the event video in Nathan's thread:

(BTW, Andrea Montesinos Cantu of Mexico was recognizable as another face on their crew.)

I must say that I love the modesty with which Nathan introduced himself to the young participants :)

Hey you guys, I can't believe I don't know this however, who choreographed Nathan's LP this year 20/21 ?

Jimmy skated a very ambitious FS program, but it ended up getting away from him and he finished with a score of 129.39. Among his bigger mistakes were popping a 4Lz into a single and falling on a second 4T attempt.

Was he the only Senior Man there? It looks like he won the event.

SENIOR MEN FS/OVERALL (top 5 summer 2021 scores)
Vincent Zhou 203/303
Jimmy Ma 129/210
Maxim Naumov 118/186
Ryan Dunk 112/182
Paul Yeung 120/180

Maxim Naumov 86.60 SP + 116.98 FS = 203.58 (at 2021 Colonial Open in June)

I do love Jimmy Ma, and am very pleased at his Skate Detroit scores.
I also think that Naumov's future is bright.

ETA:

Yaro Paniot was interviewed at great length in Russian yesterday.

I have not attempted to watch the video (almost two hours long), which the interviewer apparently posted twice:

Andrew T. is entered in Glacier Falls  (Along with Yaro Paint and Dinh Tran, among others, but of course I need to put my fave first;))

So two points: will whiny emo music be confirmed as a competitive program for Andrew? And sadly and of interest only to me, will Andrew be skating at Glacier Falls instead of Philly International in the future😥

The Junior line-up is pretty impressive and includes JGP entrants (so far) Kai Kovar and Lucas Broussard.

Im exited for the juniors a lot, im hoping for a redemption skate from Samuel.

Do you know, if there will be a stream for this?

Does anyone know if there'll be a livestream from Glacier Falls? I can't see any mention of it on their website.

Emmanuel Savary is the lone senior man entered in the Philadelphia Summer Championships.

(The women have more of a line up, but I don't travel for the women. Not even a two hour drive. Not unless there are more men skating;)).

If anyone is thinking about going to Aston this week ... Emmanuel (whom I like a lot) will not be the only man worth watching (IMO).

Joonsoo Kim will be competing in Collegiates.
Goku Endo too.
(Per Los Angeles FSC's Instagram post.)
Collegiates starting orders will be here: https://ijs.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2021/29832/index.asp
ETA (on Jul 27):
Collegiates starting orders have been posted.
Ryan Dunk is another entry in the field of seven Senior Men.
Also Luke Ferrante (2019 U.S. Nats pewter medalist in Junior Men, IIRC).
Goku is one of two entries in Junior Men.

And not a U.S man, but Israel's Nikita Kovalenko is entered in Junior Men's competition of Philadelphia Summer Championships.
If anyone does go to Aston, I hope that you will give Nikita an extra cheer from me.
Nikita was/is one of my favorites from 2019 JGP Lake Placid. (He competed in 2019 Philadelphia Summer International in Junior Men too.)

BTW, Goku also is on the Junior Men's SP and FS entry lists for Glacier Falls.
Men's competition at Collegiates will be finished on Thursday morning on the east coast.
I wonder whether Goku plans to rush back to California in time for Glacier Falls SP on Friday afternoon?

Im exited for the juniors a lot, im hoping for a redemption skate from Samuel. ...

Agree re Mindra. (y)

Good luck to all the men competing on either coast this week.

Fan Zone's roster page is starting to show updates for the 2021-22 season.
It now includes bios for Eric Prober and Maxim Zharkov -- for the first time, AFAIK.
ETA (on Jul 27):
Update that Yaro Paniot now has been added too.

A bit off topic but, do we know what Max Arron is up to these days??
He graduated from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a degree in Finance, and he got a job as a wealth management advisor with Merrill Lynch. He's now a partner at WESCompany, an electrical construction company specializing in industrial design.
