I thought Canadian single skating is dead and suddenly Madeline Schizas appears!:points:

Do you think that being just 18 and given time and peace (that for instance Russian ladies fs is lacking) she can improve to Kaetlyn Osmond level? Personally can't see why not, she has quality and charisma in her skating!

I don't post a lot, but...I'll just say I'm slightly worried about the pairs, it would be a tragedy if they were we just get one pair spot next year ... a medal chance for ice dance is dead, I still think Gilles & Poirier is being slightly underscored, but we should get 3 spots because it's ice dance... moving forward, the men's discipline may be Canada's weakest...on the contrary, I'm really excited that we possibly wait 45 years for another Canadian woman to show up since Canadian women usually peak later ... if Schizas can reproduce what she did here at the World Championships, she might even get a 2nd spot back...

Technically, they have almost equivalent content. Skating wise, Madeline will get there. I think her performance in the SP was very much up there. In the LP, she was a bit more introverted but still connected enough. Kaetlyn was a special skater though, with a lot more speed and power than most. Madeline is more refined type (not more refined per se than Kaetlyn at her finest) . She reminds me more of Joannie than Kaetlyn to be honest. We will see how she develops. In interviews, she said she has been inspired by the Russians, acquiring the harder combo and working on the quads and triple axel. Will they ever get there? Maybe not...but it's okay, there is very alive single skating outside of Russia :)

Roman : I only wish he had a bit more time to reflect on his experience but at the same time, here is something he can think about !

Keegan is coming.... and who knows in what kind of shape. Keegan could have given up on this experience. But he isolated, training in stairwells and rented ice, traveled all over the world after tons of testing... for what? He will be jet lagged, tired, at best. Because it's a once in a lifetime experience and that's all that matters. If Keegan can show up, and just skate after all that, ti should give some perspective to Roman : skate, do your best, stand proud with a high held head !
1. Keegan should have been climatizing himself with Beijing time - does anyone know? Regardless all that travel and stress let's hope for a miracle. 2. Roman. Oh Roman you could be mean and truthful he has at best had an up and down season but in reality mainly down. Again though NO ATHLETE on purposely does so poorly. I mean he i at the olympics and sure his scores were lower than Madi's moreso when you contsider the scoring system makes it easier to get points than in adies which makes Roman's skates even more tragic. He is potentially a skater with Patrick Chan or Jason brown skating skills but doing so poorly wiht hte jumps will hurt his pcs as we see here. I wonder ifi Michael Slipchuk is feeling the pressure about his job. No medal here most likely. I guess you can say there is a new hop in th ladies but we will see in the individual event. I give Madi so much credit for standing up and skating so well. She is the next Joniie/Kaetlyn/Gabby.

well worlds will be a different animal with teams retiring after the games... we will see who even goes so there little need to worry right now :) I am pretty convinced that Skate Canada will encourage our skaters to go to worlds because of the upcoming 2024 worls in montreal... it's hard to retrieve spots when lost, so it's best our Olympic athletes show up at worlds this year and have a strong and large team ahead of 2023 worlds to secure as many spots as possible for 2024.. phew :) hope it made sense

Personally, I don't think the younger skaters will miss worlds...so, I'm pretty sure Schizas will be there...everyone else, I'm not sure...usually, the people that don't go to worlds during an Olympic years are people retiring that very season...we all know James/Radford are just there for a "last hurrah" for an Olympic dream that won't happen...I'll be surprised if they showed up...I don't keep in touch with the "behind the scenes" news...is Keegan retiring this season???...he's pretty old for men's skating standards...

Keegan has expressed the wish to skate his 20th nationals and finish next year at wtt... FBS have mentioned trying to aim for worlds in montreal... Eric and Vanessa and MTM : not too sure if they will go to worlds but at the same time, with the lack of competition they both got with covid these last few years, it might be of interest to them to compete at worlds.. give it a go. Pairs will be tricky but it is expected that many pairs all over the world will retire too. I feel confident in deanna and maxime to get things sorted out for themselves. so at this point, it's not that scary... the big retirements following 2018 games was much scarier... much harder to replace world champions or podium contenders than top 12 athletes

Equivalent? Not quite. Madeline's first jump was 2z+3t. The only high value jump she did was 3f, as she never does another 3z in the FS; her repeated jumps are 3lo and 3t. Osmond did two 3fs (one a 3f+3t) and a 3z in her FS, and 2a+3t.

She completed the 3Lz3T in the short. It’s not like she can’t do it, she just made a mistake in that instant.

I think we will see her repeat the 3Lz and 3L or 3T in the coming years

These Olympics have been tough on the Canadian men's singles skaters. Keegan couldn't compete in the Team Event because he caught COVID (I can't imagine the anxiety he must felt having to produce 4 negative PCR tests), and Roman crumbled into a million pieces having to replace him. I'm so relieved that Keegan managed to arrive in Beijing on time for the individual Men SP, and he's now soaking up every minute of his second Olympics. With the spotlight on Keegan, I sincerely hope that Roman no longer feels any pressure and he can just focus on gaining experience.

Considering that Vincent Zhou had to withdraw from the individual event because he tested positive for COVID (so that means his competitive Olympic experience is limited to the Team Event FS, and he won't be allowed to join his American teammates for the TE Medal Ceremony), it's already a huge victory for the athletes to get to the Olympics (Keegan knows this all too well!) and remain COVID-free. Whatever happens tonight in the SP, I just hope both our men enjoy every moment.

:rolleye: The reference was very clearly to their planned content.
funny how some posters just like to twist our words right?

Maddie clearly has a strong 3lz-3t.. the best by a Canadian woman ever if I am not mistaken and clearly better than any of the USA women right now.

Yeah, well Alaine still has had her share of successes and like many, injuries that made it difficult for her to keep up her technical prowess. However, when she started out her lutz was amazing. Canadian women like Josée, Joannie, and now Madeline have had very nice lutzes.
