he is definitely your type of skaterWell, I did know a little about Corey (TCC and all that), but after today, I’m definitely looking forward to more skates. I love his command of the ice and his presence on it

A bit of a disappointing start for Miku & Tyler with the twizzle error, but they're still in second (with a Czech sibling team close behind; time is a flat circle?).
But what a huge moment for Kaiya. Canada hasn't won a women's JGP medal since 2013, and not a silver since 2009.

Soooooo happy for Kaiya, what a wonderful skate! It's crazy how much her FS has improved from last season, much more expressive and emotionally connected to the music, with a strong jump layout that's more manageable and consistent for her. They need to send her to a Senior B asap so she can get her minimums for that possible Olympic spot.

miku and tyler got their silver... better free dance than rhythm dance.
two topics for discussion
1) should miku and tyler move to a new coaching team.... (i am suggesting this idea, not because I don't think wing and lowe are good, they certainly are great coaches... but simply because I believe that it would push miku and tyler to further development)
2) should Canada release bright young talent like Lim and Quan so easily... now representing South Korea, they earned a bronze medal ... considering that junior teams can split so easily, even if the field is strong and deep, is it still okay to let go of a very talented team?

I was worried for them going into the free dance because they did not have a good warmup. They redid their twizzle sequence several times because Miku kept bobbling. Between that and the disappointment from yesterday, I thought they looked (understandably) tentative, but they got through it and got their medal. And now they've got a few days to calm things down and hopefully be more confident next week.
If M/G are planning to try to make a go in the senior ranks next year, I think they probably do need to consider alternative coaching arrangements (as their former training partners did). I'm not sure Wing & Lowe can take them much further than they already have.
As far as releasing Lim & Quan, when dealing with a team that has never even gone out internationally for Canada (though granted that COVID had something to do with that) I think as a policy one should be generous if they have a better shot at opportunities elsewhere. There are so many young-ish teams ahead of them in junior and senior that they'd have had a tough time getting anything noteworthy.

thanks for your opinion... I guess it is true that if Covid hadn't hit, they may have competed internationally for Canada, and then it would have been complicated for them to compete for another country... oh well.. blame it on covid...
regarding the so many teams ahead of them in juniors?? Not sure about that.... my BBs have split... Jessica and Jacob seem to have split as well... yes.. there are others but are growing up... but at that specific level miku and tyler, bruce and nathalie... and the other BBs... i am not sure 3 good teams is great depth yet... it could be worse of course. Fair enough, the senior ranks are busy... but who will continue post beijing? Nik and Lolo most likely would retire, Piper and Paul??? they could as well... soucisse and firus have had their issues and lost momentum.... Lala seem to be there to stay... but then, as much as I love Paul and Alicia, or Haley and Nick, it is much less crowded than it looks like for the next quad

Singles SP/RD scores from Skate Ontario's August performance opportunity are now up.
Roman leads the men's with 83 and change (good quad, iffy triple Axel, downgraded combination). Joseph seems like he had a decent showing in second place.
Alison wins the women's short, only thing holding her back being that she only did a 3-2.
Piper & Paul were one keypoint away from perfect levels on everything, thanks to that sweet, sweet domestic judging.

Gabby got carrots which is uncharacteristic. Allison is losing a lot of points not only without a 33 combo but also not including a lutz. As a matter of fact, reading the protocols was disappointing in terms of tech content. Junior women seem almost more competitive. Re Joseph, i am just happy he is competing. Not sure why he is trying to do the combo on his quad. His 3lutz combo is pretty good, and he could backload it. Re ice dance, i know piper and paul had trouble with keypoints last year but other season means other pattern. I would not automatically invoke home judging yet.... There is a chance that this pattern suits them better or is just im general easier. Any ice dance experts willing to comment on that?

The level 4 midline step is the most obvious example of something they probably would not have gotten from an international panel (because hardly anybody ever gets that post-2018).
As far as the Midnight Blues goes, this has been a better pattern for them than the Finnstep. They got a level 4 on it at 2017 Worlds, for instance.
