Alicia had a mishap on her third twizzle set in the RD at Lombardia, but even with that they got almost 65 points, so a good start for them, and promising as they hopefully get more visible in the seasons to come.

Also, the more I see of the RD programs this season, the more I think Fabbri & Ayer may have one of the best.

Fournier Beaudry & Sorensen's program is solid (and they both look stunning, as you'd expect).

Kirsten Moore Towers and her partner Michael are in the video as well. Romsky is sad about being the lone Canadian participant at this event. I’m really nervous and hopeful he will do well at this event. He skated well enough at the two high performance events earlier last month and he must have done well enough under the supervision of Skate Canada last week. Vincent Zhou and the Russian participant should place 1-2. How many spots are up for grabs and what place does Roman need to finish in to make it to the Olympics?
 
I just read the qualifying manual for Nebelhorn. 23 spots have already been accounted for. 30 men athletes make it to the Olympics. Therefore, there are 7 spots up for grabs. 9 athletes that are trying to qualify for an Olympic spot have a personal best over 215 participating at Nebelhorn. If Roman skates up to how he skated recently, he should be good enough to grab a spot.

Also, if he qualifies, he will complete the lucky 13 number of Canadian athletes sent to China for figure skating.

As long as he places in the top 7 of the qualifiers (I believe there are 5 participants not in for qualification), which I hope, you'll get that lucky number.

The smart move from Skate Canada is that Roman has great spins and PCS. Even if not all his jumps are perfectly landed, he should be in top 7. However, the SP will be crucial... there he needs to rotate all jumping passes and be already in the top skaters... otherwise, catching up will require him to have a stellar LP

As a side note, I didn't recognize Jeremy Abbott with his longer hair, but I like it on him!

It was interesting to see Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen. I thought they looked vulnerable. There was the obvious problems with the twizzles, by both of them, in the free dance. And I'm still not convinced by the voiceovers in that music. Given how long they've been working with this program now, I was surprised it didn't look more polished. But the real problem was the SD for me. What a snooze after the absolute standout that was their Bonnie and Clyde last season. I remember nothing about the choreography, it was that generic. I hope they can make some tweaks, at least, though I'd say start from the drawing board. This is the Olympic season and they are crammed in the middle pack of skaters where choreography and program choice could make all the difference. Can't wait to see the rest of the Canadian ice dancers.

Based on the previous Worlds they aren't really in much of a middle pack, they're just below the top tier alongside the British, and with not-insignificant separation between them at the skaters below.

Lombardia wasn't their best event technically (bad twizzle days happen), but they're a long way from vulnerable (if by that you mean not making the Olympic team).

Oh, I don't think they are in any danger of missing the Olympic team, barring injury. But I do think that there's an opportunity for Lajoie and Lagha to make inroads on them.
 
Nik and Lolo looked deflated in the kiss n cry... they probably just had a very very bad day... it happens. They usually are strong and solid skaters. I am not really worried about them at all. They will have other events and will definitely do better.

Really like their RD, which highlights their strengths. I would ditch that FD immediately, though. When they took the ice at Lombardia my first thought was, thank goodness they ditched those cartoony costumes. But with normal costumes the dance almost looks worse, because the old ones at least put the thing in context and gave you an idea of the story they were trying to tell. Now it’s just—weird.

Agree with the Colonel, this is team that should not be considered mid-pack, but as fighting to move into the top tier. Two years ago I was convinced that they were a real threat to Piper & Paul for the top spot in Canada! I don’t see that right now.

It’s time for them to step up, and I say this as a fan.

i was thinking about their performance some more and it seems to me that perhaps their focus was to get the RD out in front of the judges.... and they have perhaps not focused enough on the FD since it's an old program...sometimes, this can come to bite you as you start doubting your training... anyways... not worried about them... and on top of that, they are continuing for worlds in montreal and this is not a "final olympic year" for them...
