I think Vincent has solidified his spot on the Olympic team, and it's probably going to be Nathan, Jason, and Vincent. I'm very excited to see where those three can go

Also regarding Shin Amano, tbh, if Vincent is getting "q" with Shin's scrutiny he'll be fine for Nationals and (if he gets there) the Olympics when the tech specialists tend to be more lax.Vincent's SP skate was absolutely gorgeous! He has a one-foot entry into his stunning 3A that had me 'hearing' Dick Button's oft-repeated warning about how dangerous a jump the axel is. His 4lutz-3T and 4S were wonderful, although Shin Amano did give him a "q" on both jumps.
I really like the commentator for Nebelhorn, because he mentions when skaters really showed emotions, heart and soul when skating. "It's not just about the elements," he said. And he was very complimentary about Vincent's qualities of showing emotion, heart and soul through his movement and overall skating. Now, that's a skating lover after my own heart.That's exactly what I've always loved about Vincent.
Regardless... Damn what a statement by Vincent!
Two pretty much clean skates at Nebelhorn, 6 clean quads (and yes, a 'q' is still clean - certainly a 'q' judged by Shin Amano is clean, lol). If those quads were slightly more rotated (or there was a tech specialist who was less of a stickler), he'd have had enough for bronze at 2021 Worlds.

I have a feeling that Vincent will go for a clean skate here. He has a comfortable lead and I have a feeling he wants to cement his place on the team. It's so nice to see him skate like we know he can. Congratulations!!

Vincent is like that cousin who accidentally destroyed your favorite flower vase at your house and has recently found a replacement. He means well and comes in peace, it's just that he was too young and too blunt before lol. Congrats Vincent!

It's his first international competition. He is the U.S. Mens junior pewter medalist . He is a delightful skater.

Jacob finished fourth at US junior Nats in 2021, when he was only 13. Here is a recent story from the US Fan Zone:
Jacob Sanchez: Meet the Young Latino skater with "Raw Talent"
Excerpt:
"I really look up to Nathan Chen and Jason Brown. I love [Brown's] skating," Sanchez said. "I also look up to skaters around the world like [Japan's] Yuzuru Hanyu, Nam Nguyen from Canada...and the Russian girls doing quads!"
Like many skating fans, Sanchez admires Chen's athleticism and technique and hopes his jumps can be like the "Quad King" one day. However, it's Brown's portrayal of personality and artistry that Sanchez looks to emulate.
"In 2019, for my intermediate season, I skated to 'Riverdance.' [Brown's 2014 'Riverdance' free skate] was one of my biggest inspirations for that," Sanchez explained. "It was really my inspiration for skating, too. When I saw him, I told my mom I want to be like him. I want to skate to 'Riverdance.'"

Yes, skating is an individual sport, though I personally love the team competitions and would love to see more of them.
But skating injured and doing such a bad job that you don’t even make the free skate does nothing to establish an athlete as either a medal threat or a spot getter. Not with the US Fed and not with the International judges.
Additionally, like it or not, this is a judged sport and politics enter into it. If two athletes are close in scores and ability, which is likely, will the US Fed take a skater that is known to compete injured and bomb? Or the one who isn’t?

Skaters make the choice to compete while injured all the time. Best recent example is Chris Knierim at 2019 nationals. Obviously, they weigh things, and they don't expect to bomb that badly even when they know they're injured. And isn't it part of their training? 'We get up' when we fall, the competition adrenalin doesn't allow them to feel the pain fully while they're skating, and in retrospect they possibly shouldn't have continued. Skaters have said in interviews that they were feeling pain but fought through.
If two athletes are close in scores and ability, i.e. Vincent and Jason, who will they take? Both!
If other men show close scores to those two, I think the confidence of USFS that Jason and Vincent have both earned will carry its own weight.And I'm another who personally loves the team competitions and would love to see more of them. Some of the skaters really benefit from them and enjoy the chance to be on a team.
ETA: I'm still not 100% sold on team competitions at the Olympics, in such proximity to their individual events. I remember Kori Ade saying after Jason was at Sochi in 2014 that all of their training prepares them to deliver 2 good performances at any given event, and adjustments have to be made and that ain't easy! I still think about Julia L. being so magnificent in the team event and I remain convinced that her individual skates were partly a function of that whole team first/individual last dynamic.

Vincent skated the best I've ever seen from him at Nebelhorn. He has improved in so many ways that he's almost a completely new skater. The judges showed they were impressed with his performances.
Just about any skater can bomb one event and still get high scores when they do perform well. Some skaters (Kolyada comes to mind) can bomb repeatedly and still receive sky high PCS scores!

Having watched Vincent with pleasure for 4 or 5 years, I've come to the conclusion he's a fast learner. Like Alysa, as her coach Massimo marveled at in a tweet. Vincent corrected a lot of his UR troubles in a short time a few years ago. My guess is that he's good at focusing on a problem, and that he's had to learn not to let the bad vibes of the world get to him too much.
