Well done to Lindsay and Clare! Lindsay seems very solid. The voiceover though... someone kill it, please  I didn't really like Clare's free, especially in comparison to the great SP she has for this season. It seems URs might be a problem for her. I'm also surprised she has 3A, as her axel doesn't seem that big. Still, a very good international debut for her! She has so many beautiful qualities 🥰 Probably smart of Lindsay to not go full-out with her tech, as she just had to skate cleanly with 3Lz-3T and 2As.
I wasn't aware Clare had a 3a, has she competed with it in the past or can I find a video somewhere?

I see so much of Karen in Clare, so many things about her expression and her arm movements, is it a coincidence that they have the same coach? I really hope Lindsay's performance and interpretation shortcomings are something she'll grow out of, or that she gets the chance to spend a LOT of time with Sandra or maybe Shae, because she has everything else going for her.

The opening of Clare’s FS is SO Karen. I said that out loud when I was watching. It’s a compliment, but yes, the resemblance in their skating (at times) is very apparent.

What are Lindsay and Clare’s next assignments?

Clare and Lindsay are bursting at the seams with talent and potential. Clare has all the makings of a star: beautiful posture, interpretation, skating skills, speed, and big jumps. However, under-rotations might be her undoing. If Clare can clean up the jumps, she will easily score in the 190s to 200s internationally. She lost over eight points in under-rotations in the free. Had she skated cleanly, Clare would have beaten both Kaiya and Lindsay. Lindsay on the other hand is a steely performer who has beautiful jumps, spins, and rhythm to her skating but does not seem to emote or perform as much as Clare. However, apart from the triple-Loop, she had a great performance. If Lindsay can increase her components and add a clean 3A alongside a 3Lz3Lo, she will become a very big threat. Our junior women’s performance today is a great harbinger for what is to come from US figure skating. I am immensely excited for the next quad.

Lindsay is the one who has the 3A. She landed a 3A< recently. Lindsay’s jumps are impressive. Much higher than all her other competitors. She opted out of the 3A and 3Lz 3Lo combo this week. Smart decision to go clean instead. She can always add these more difficult elements when she faces stiffer competition. I just wish she showed more emotion. Judges seem to agree with a low PCS score in comparison to her technical content and I agree with the judges. Clare and Kaiya are such sweet girls. Glad they got medals. What a wonderful way to begin our year.

I was just looking ahead to the entries in later JGP events, and Lindsay's going to have a tough competition field in Slovakia - Mia Kalin as well as 4 Russian athletes. ...

I wouldn't be surprised if they move Lindsey and Mia to other events. ...

Thorngren is on the list for Slovakia in two weeks. ...

Update/caveat re Thorngren's next JGP, paraphrasing from Ted Barton's interview after she won Courchevel today:

Ted first asked whether she will compete at another JGP this season, and Lindsay replied, "Yes."

When he followed up and asked if she knew where, she hesitated. Her coach (behind Ted and out of his line of sight) could be seen signaling Lindsay to answer No, and Lindsay then replied to Ted, "No, not yet."

Not surprising, given that JGP assignments can be fluid, even after ISU and USFS name entries.
Probably more fluid than ever during this pandemic season.

Anyway, congratulations to Lindsay 🥇and Clare 🥉!

Yes, please switch the skaters currently assigned to JGP FRA2 and send Lindsay instead. She has a great opportunity for another gold medal in the absence of Russian skaters (it's no coincidence that Ruiter was assigned to both French events). Maybe there will be a US judge on the panel next week---there was none today.

Impressed to see both Lindsey and Clare skate so well and I hope they both have great seasons. However, to me the scoring is a classic example of tying component to tech scores and basically overlooking the PCS criteria altogether by focusing on rotations and edges with a fine tooth comb where Lindsay comes out better to the complete exclusion of the macro elements posture, flow, expression, smooth edges and speed where Clare is superior in my opinion but gains no benefit and even suffers some detriment in PCS scoring.

Both Lindsay and Clare were wonderful. Clare has the better skating skills for sure and deserved her win in the short. But there's just something about Lindsay that makes her my favorite of the two. She's steely and got a competitive grit that I like.

IMO, the one thing Lindsay needs is more speed. Her jumps are beautiful and she has a very light quality about her. With more speed, I think she'd be unbeatable as a Junior. She has a really competitive mindset.

Is Lindsay considered our top Junior Lady? She certainly did well here and I hope we get to see her in another JGP event.
I think based on domestic results Isabeau is the top junior lady. Her results this season have been significantly better. Her SP is just gorgeous. However, we will see how it plays out internationally. Lindsay has the best jumps. Clare the best SS. Isabeau the performance and extension. ( Lindsay has great extension, too but Isabeau is incredible) Isabeau has been ( like Lindsay) a very good competitor. I wonder if she will remain consistent in international competitions? We will see.

Yes, she needs more speed. She also seems very shy ( based on her interview) and as a shy individual myself I know that can make it very hard to perform in front of a large group of people. Her face is completely dead on the ice. I found it rather endearing but it is something she can work on.

I'd add Mia Kalin as someone to watch. There is lots of room for improvement (including on parts of her jump technique, interestingly) but she landed two 4Ts at Skate Milwaukee:

It's interesting that the US has a number of decent-good junior women all with slightly different strengths and weaknesses.

The interesting thing about Mia is that while her 4Ts are really quite nice, her other jumps aren't particularly good. Obviously, she is a talented jumper so I look forward to seeing her improvement in her other jumps and her basic skating.

This year, as I understand it, will be ranked by points, so the actual composition of which ever JGP you are in isn't going to matter as much. A slightly missed 3A (and her 2A was huge, with plenty of air time for the 3), and/or a slightly under rotated or q on the lutz loop would have gotten her closer to 200, and much closer to what the best Russian juniors score. In a way it would be better to move her to the last JGP with hopes that the 3A, and lutz loop are there, and the program has better performance quality and speed. Also a higher finish (score wise) in the last JGP gives her more clout for Nationals, (making the Olympic team) should she end up in the top 3.

Do we know what Isabeau's first event will be? I look forward to see her and following the Junior Ladies this year. There seems to be a lot of talent on the rise in our Juniors and it's very exciting.

Yes, was going to say hopefully Lindsay will put that 3A in at her other assignment, so she's competitive with the Russian juniors who will be scoring highly.
