Anyone know why Amber and Gabby withdrew from the FS? Hope they're not injured :frown: I could see Gabby withdrawing in an effort to save her shot at the SkAm spot if she doesn't think she can redeem her SP, but I thought Amber's SP was a good start to the season for her and was looking forward to seeing more.

I don't think sitting out the LP is a way to get the SKAm spot since her main two competitors are skating in the LP and they already have a clean skate to show the USFSA that they are worthy of that spot.

Just speculating. But, Amber's leg was taped during the SP and she took a hard fall on a 3A in the warmup. It may be a slight injury.

It is tho, she has been competing this whole summer and her results have been great. If she has injured herself or just knows she will bomb the fs its better to sit it out and hope that her previous preformances are enough to get her the spot. This event is not the only thing that will decide the spot.

Well given that she was in 17th after the short, if she's injured it's probably better to WD than to skate injured; IMO as long as she doesn't get injured/suffer a setback I think that Skate America spot is allotted to Audrey, she finished better at Nationals than Gabriella, she placed third at Skate America and she's done decent this summer

Raf is her coach, Adam is an assistant and has been choreographing her SP's.
Mariah is in her Mid 20's and I imagine she has some say in how her programs are choreographed. I'm sure she helps select her music, and design her costumes. At her age, I would hope that she talks to Raf and Adam and tells them that this SP is not working for her. It's still early and if they need to re-work the program, they still have time.

I know.

It seems I'm the only one who likes Mariah's SP. It looked great on OIP's clip and now when you could see her facial expressions on the stream. (In the Cranberry practice it wasn't that great.) It will develop and get better especially once she gets the step sequence under control. People hated the Britney program too in the beginning but by nationals it was fire.

And it's weird that people are saying Mariah at 25 doesn't know her mind and what she wants to skate to. Adam isn't a svengali forcing her do things, and I think he's been a great influence on her. She had her best season with him in 2019-20, podiuming at all her events and even being the first American woman to medal at both her GPs in many years. I think besides the pandemic, last year was difficult for her because Adam WASN'T with her at competitions (he spent months abroad).

At this point of her career she isn't going to pull a 3A or a quad out of her butt so she might as well differentiate herself in another way and skate to fun stuff that she likes. Better this than both programs being boring warhorses. Skaters shouldn't think what's "Olympic" (was "Let me think about it" Olympic?) because that's not authentic either, you're thinking about what others want to see. And I'm sure Adam has drilled into her that making or missing the Olympics isn't going to define her or her skating career.
You're not alone. I like the program, could she have something more lyrical and do it better, yes (as I've said upthread). But I like the program, it's different and fun and I agree with everything else you've said.
