Right. I wonder who else besides Isabeau could move up to seniors this year? Lindsay is old enough to qualify for the Olympics.
What do you mean “move up to seniors”? As long as you pass the appropriate tests, you can compete as senior in the US. To do international, you need to be 15 by July 1st.

That’s exactly what I mean: competing as a senior in the US. There may be others who competed in junior nationals last season that want to compete in senior nationals this season.

I asked this question the other day. At Nationals the requirements are different which is why Alysa was able to be crowned champion at 13 but, she was unable to compete at Senior Worlds

I don't want to offend anyone, but for me Isabeau's presence, dress, carriage, programs just scream Russian figure skating school. ;)
Congratulations!

I don’t think anyone is offended if that is someone’s opinion; it’s not contrasting with another “school” as worse or inferior and certainly she is doing a wonderful job interpreting Russian music.(y)

I think it depends on your background. For most Americans, Isabeau screams “Sasha Cohen”. Every time I see her, she channels Sasha C. more and more. Exquisite positions held long enough for the spectator to enjoy and respect. The spiral. :love2:

And that is no disrespect to Isabeau’s own abilities. But the resemblance is uncanny.

I agree. We all thought Sasha skated like a Russian Ballerina and that's a huge compliment. Remember when Dick said she had the best pointed toes in skating.

Isabeau is just great. Especially that SP. I agree with the comment about the Russians comparison since they're getting the highest PCS. Her interpretation, transitions and musicality at 14 is really up there with the best of the Russians. I don't just mean Jrs.

After that first 3Lz in the FS which was supposed to have 2T/3T I didn't think in my wildest dreams she could do all 3 combos at the end with her technique. So steely.

I said the same thing. It's not offensive at all to say she has the look of a Russian skater. I hope she considers it a compliment. I thought she looked like a young Evgenia Medvedeva
Certainly not offensive. All of her coaches are Russian and her favorite skater is Medvedeva ;) I think everyone agrees Isabeau has her own star quality, regardless of resemblance to others :)

Congrats to her for a strong international debut! I really hope she can make the final.

Congrats to Isabeau on her win, she's a lovely skater with great performance ability. I too was reminded of some Russian skaters, but only because of how low she pikes her back on some of the toe jumps, combos, and landings. Hopefully as she gets older she'll get stronger and learn to jump more from her legs.

Because it was in the US, because the host could choose who the judges to invite, because they invited a judge has a history of cheating. If Alysa and Isabeau were to skate their SPs at the same event, Isabeau’s PCS could be on top.
One of the privileges/duties of the host is to select a judging panel. I'm not sure if the ISU gets involved in selecting judges but, when I was hosting shows, I selected judges that I knew and respected. If fans didn't agree, it never bothered me. I would never hire a judge that I didn't respect. No matter where they're from, judges need to judge fairly. If I ever suspected a judge was cheating for ANY skater, they'd never work for again.

The way it works is that organisers give the possibility to ISU Members entering a skater to the competition to also nominate a judge.
The judge in question (if I understood who Tahuu means: the one sitting on that panel who has been suspended by ISU in the past) was nominated by one federation who entered a lady (and an ice dance couple in the ID event which was running on the same week in the same place).

Isabeau definitely brings some fresh air to US figure skating, even as a junior. I actually like the FP more, particularly from 3:30 all the way to the end: that's the Russian Dance I would expect. Hopefully she will also become stronger technically, to really challenge the Russian girls.

Congratulations!

Oh I'd add in the FS as well.
I dont like the FS song but I dont think there's inherently anything wrong with it, its very typical for skating. Piper and Paul won a world medal with it last season. Its not creative or original from Mariah, but its not going offend people's ears like the short might.
