Alysa is very talented and has worked hard to improve. I am not sure I would switch less than 2 mos before Nationals and 3 before the olympics. Who knows she might even podium with the Russians injured, the Japanese ot really impressing with the ultra C elements. The underwhelming skates and programs from Lindsay, Audrey, Starr, Amber, Karen and Mariah. Did anyone see Gracie Gold compete this weekend. At first blush it was promising ut when you looked closer (not even that close) the speed was not their, the amplitude not there, the height and power of jumps gone and she probably was underrotating but she did stand up. A lot of her fans were excited but then the score of the fs 108 and change brought everything back into reality.
I thought all those things were there. BTW Johnny Weir has said she still has some of the best jumps in the US. The goal here was to make Nationals. Not put all her difficulty out there.

Did she say that before or after the GP series?

She has been hyped the last 3 years as the next big skater from the US, but the GP series might've been a harsh reality check that she's not there yet internationally.
Exactly my thoughts about the GP series for Alysa. She barely cracks top 5 at the events with cleanish skates. That cannot be a good sign for her team based on all the hard work she has been doing to improve. She is not even competitive with the Japanese skaters let alone the Russians.

Agree most of US not impressing, but Kaori has a 215 and 223, Mai a 214, young You a 219, Leona H. a 219. Those scores beat all US Skaters on the grand prix this year including Alysa. Very unlikely any US skater anywhere near a podium.

I see all this hope for Gracie to get international assignments next year. You do know she has turned 25 this year. Do people expect her to continue competitive skating? I think Ashley skated senior 11 yrs until age 26, Mirai 11 yrs until about 25,

Why does everyone think these coaches are miracle workers, it's the skater who can change things if they put in the hard work. Marin went to RAF and look at her now. Evgenia went to Orser and she got no quads and her jumps are still so so. Jason is with Orser and he can't even rotate his jumps.
Either you have powerful jumping legs, or you do not. Gracie and Karen, for example, have powerful jumping legs, but slow rotation, that can be fixed by a coach, off ice training etc. Alysa has lightening speed rotation, but lacks leg power, I don't really think any coach can fix a lack of leg strength. Her jumps are very small, and they will stay small. Alysa has done the most with the skill set she was born with, and her present team should be congratulated for bringing her this far.

Yeah. I think the idea is a kind of odd. It's also sad to see Alysa is leaving all her teenage friends behind. I'm just wondering....perhaps the dad doesn't want Alysa to spend so much time hanging out with her friends. That's why he relocates her to other city so that she can focus on training.
I dont know if that would make any sense. Colorado is packed with skaters, some of whom are known for spending more time socializing than training. Its the opposite of a quiet, no nonsense Frank Carroll rink - often overcrowded.

I was skeptical that this rumor was even true till I saw Alysa posted on instagram that they got bangs. Nothing says emotional upheaval/big life change like bangs 😂

So one skater in Spokane got an aggregate score of 179 passing Gracie's 175. But I imagine Gracie is in for Nats anyway.

Watch Higuchi's free skate from yesterday in France and consider that she might not even make the Japanese Oly team, and you will realize how much Alysa needs to improve.

In case anyone has not figured out the final list ... the nine Senior Women who have qualified for Nats via Championship Series, if I am not mistaken:

Gabbie Izzo, Gracie Gold, Sierra Venetta, Kate Wang, Finley Hawk, Wren Warne-Jacobsen, Jill Heiner, Hanna Harrell, Rena Ikenishi

For Wang, Warne-Jacobsen, and Heiner, it will be their first time as Senior Women at Nats. :)

Top two from Eastern section
193.69 IZZO (Norwood); also competed in Allen
175.56 GOLD (Alpharetta); also competed in Leesburg

Top two from Pacific
179.39 VENETTA (Spokane); also competed in Allen
170.82 WANG (Spokane)

Top two from Midwestern
164.29 HAWK (Blaine); also competed in Fort Wayne
162.05 WARNE-JACOBSEN (Blaine); also competed in Fort Wayne

Next best three from nation
172.62 HEINER (Leesburg); also competed in Alpharetta
171.51 HARRELL (Henderson); also competed in Spokane
169.75 IKENISHI (Leesburg); also competed in Norwood

Gracie never had slow rotations when she was in her prime she was quick in the air unlike Karen and very rarely underrotated.

Like it or not, Alysa is the #1 US lady this season. It’s unfortunate she can’t crack the top, but what American lady can? I’m sure it’s difficult for Alysa because before puberty she was hitting those quads and triple axels. Just like the Russian ladies that were having stellar careers before the age of 15. To her credit, she hasn’t retired yet. She hasn’t been replaced because the US doesn’t have the same interest in skating with girls lined up to be stars for the next two years

Well if you look at protocols from non-US events pre-puberty she had issues with under-rotations on the quads and triple axel, its how Usacheva could beat her at Jr Worlds and Valieva at JGPF with none of those elements.

To qualify through the Championship Series this year: Top 2 per region (3 regions) + the next three highest scores from all regions. So 9 skaters overall.

I don’t know if an official announcement has been made yet, but Gracie is the #2 qualifier in the East, and she had the third highest score overall. 😊

Sierra Veneta, who scored 179 last night in Spokane, is the top qualifier in Pacific, but her score didn’t impact Gracie.

Hanna Harrell was the only Eastern competitor in Spokane, ie the only one who could have bumped Gracie. She only scored 155 there, but I think she still qualifies as one of the three “wild cards” based on her score of 171 in the Henderson NV round.

JGP Lake Placid SP: no 3a attempt
Lp: clean 3a/2t, clean 4 lz, downgraded 3a
JGP Baltic SP: clean 3a/3t
Lp: clean 3a/2t, clean 4lz, clean 3a.

She probably started growth spurt after Baltic. However, she had a pretty darn good record up until GPF.

But her under-rotation problem is still there; PCS can keep her lifted in the standings to some extent but to medal in the big competitions and even GPs, triple axels and quads are both necessary and money-makers (or point makers) and the triple axels we've seen in competition from her have not been cleanly rotated and/or landed.

I wonder if Raf would be interested in her
Yes, I'm very much aware of Alysa's UR issues. I was specifically commenting on her PCS scores which DID go up after she went to Scali and Abbott. Her jumps obviously still have to be addressed and are a work in progress.

It is so important to the skaters, I send the seasoned team, especially Karen because without her we have two spots. There are a LOT of places to get experience. 4CCs, Worlds, Challengers.
I see many people saying karen should go because "she's the reason we have 2 spots", and while this is partly true, I personally don't think this is a good enough reason. Helping earn 3 spots doesn't give u a spot; it only increases your likelihood of earning a spot, because well, now there are 3 spots instead of 2.
Karen is lovely, and I'm so glad she's now doing the 3lutz-eu-3sal, but do we want to have an embarrassing outing again at the Olympics with our women's team? Falls and pops and the general US audience who only watch this sport every 4 years questioning why they're not so good?

Yesterday, I was certainly shocked by the Alysa Liu rumors, but today; I'm not so surprised and I do believe them to be true. It is not a coincidence that she just posted her new bangs on Instagram and her close friend Audrey Lu commented "bangs based on impulse" and she responded "YUPP". Also, I feel that whatever decision made was not made by Arthur Liu alone. On Tiktok, Alysa also just posted a tiktok with Arthur (along with others in the past) where they seem to have a very good relationship. If Arthur was the sole, overbearing head of the operation we all seem to think he is, I don't think Alysa would've filmed and posted a Tiktok with him the same day the news broke, especially considering how well Alysa got along with Jeremy and Massimo.

As others have mentioned, Jeremy is doing the Holiday Stars on Ice tour this December and Alysa needs someone working on her jumping technique every single day. Arthur, Alysa, and USFS all understand this. Alysa was also probably quick to agree seeing how close she became to Young You, who trains in Colorado Springs. Yes, I do not believe that Colorado Springs has the best coaches or resources for Alysa to succeed, but they have their backs up against a wall and Alysa needs a place to train until the Olympics. And yes, Jeremy and Massimo have helped her so much, but I think Jeremy has done all he can and after all, this coaching arrangement was always meant to be temporary. I think having You push her in the rink every single day will do wonders for her. Also, seeing how much she improved last year in the months between October-January makes me believe that this was probably the best decision.

Unfortunately, I don't really see who else in the US could help Alysa other than Raf, who probably turned her down already in the past and who would completely break apart and rework every aspect of Alysa's jumping technique, something she certainly does not need at this time. In the end, Alysa is talented. I do have my doubts about whether she will have noticeably improved by nationals, but I don't believe that she will regress in any way.
