Nah, the battle for silver is with Japan. The only discipline where Canada is near the top is dance. Their pairs have been a mess this entire fall circuit. The men are inconsistent, and their strongest lady is Maddie Schizas, whose career high is 192.14. Canada will not be anywhere close to the medal race.

By contrast, Japan will likely place second in both mens and ladies, their pairs team has performed spectacularly this fall, and will likely be in third place in the pairs team event, behind only China and Russia. Miura/Kihira are certainly more consistent than any of the US pairs have been. Dance is still weaker, but Muramoto/Takahashi have made up a lot of ground in very short time. Japan will likely still lose out on the silver due to their weaker dance, but if the US pairs drop the ball (as they are prone to do), Japan could definitely take silver.
Men- US Ladies- Russia Pairs-Russia Ice Dance-Canada-Russia-US are ahead of Japan in these areas.

I agree about Japan. They are definitely in the mix for both silver and bronze. The US is going to have to bring its A game to win silver. I think it will be Alysa for the ladies, Nathan and Vincent for the men, Hubbell-Donahue and Chock and Bates for the Dance and ?? for the pairs. Pairs is the US's biggest weakness. Dance is Japan's, but Takahashi and Muramoto (if they are on the team) have come a long way.

Of course, this is not guaranteed as to what will happen.

Still, Canada is better than Japan at ice dance, but that's it. Japan is significantly better at every other discipline. Canada is not in the medal race considering how inconsistent their pairs and men are.

I would think that the USA needs to focus on retaining its three spots, since none of them are capable of medaling, barring some crazy event where the russians and japanese don't compete.
Olympic results don't affect spots for future events. Spots for Worlds are determined by the previous year's Worlds results. Spots for the Olympics are determined by results at the previous year's Worlds and Nebelhorn.

It's always interesting to see how Worlds following the Olympics go. Often the OGM's don't attend and that can actually help to move skaters up a couple of spots. If Alysa, Lindsay, and Mariah/Karen are the team, I think we'll be OK in keeping our 3 spots. Each of them are good under pressure.

They could, but Nathan will likely only want to skate one and the ice dancers will likely only want to skate one and that’s all the substitutions that are allowed unfortunately.
Can you explain more about this? Do you mean by default they are signed up to do both the SP and FS but if they elect to do only one then that's a substitution? Is the US team basically already picked?

The simplest way to explain this is one skater skates both programs for their discipline, but 2 substitutions are allowed. So Nathan will almost certainly want to skate only one. Likewise the ice dancers will probably skate one each. That’s 2 substitutions so the lady and the pair will have to skate both segments. Last time Chris and Alexa were the only pair (and skated much better than expected) so substitution wasn’t an option for them.

Unfortunately if you don’t skate you don’t get a medal🥲

Since Amber has stated she is continuing next session, I think next session it is time for new coaches for her. I think she should go to Tammy as Karen is most likely moving on. Or possibly Misha Ge since he has done some choreography for her in the past or Todd E. might also be an option.

Nobody should be going to Tammy. Look at the under rotation issues her skaters have.

In my opinion Mia Hameda is the coach that has really helped Vincent. I think Tammy could help Amber with packaging and training plans, since Amber doesn't have under rotation issues, I think Tammy could help take her forward. Karen always has beautiful programs and packaging as do many of Tammy's other skaters at various levels.

Isn't Mia his choreographer? Thom is the one who got him to jump the way he has recently and that's impressive.

Hameda rarely coaches Vincent. That's PR and obviously effective PR seeing how often I see comments like this. Drew Meekins is probably responsible for his PCS growth. I think Tammy and Tom are both terrible suggestions for Amber imho. The skaters in the US who are showing some improvement imho are Jimmy Ma and L/M in pairs who are coached by the Letovs. If I were Amber, I would consider this coaching change.

I think Todd Eldredge is a good choice.

As far as the Letovs, doesn't Amber and Jimmy Ma have history together? Or am I mistaken?

Amber and Jimmy trained together in Dallas with the Cains (Jimmy split his time between there and the Ice House in Jersey I believe). At one point, Jimmy listed “annoying Amber Glenn” as a hobby in his ISU bio:laugh:
