Shirley Temple Black was American Ambassador to Ghana during the Ford Administration (maybe under Nixon, too: I forget). There were very painfully few women ambassadors at that time, not to mention Foreign Service career women in high ranking positions.Good for her, but I wonder what she knows about Belize? Like what are her qualifications?
Of course, ambassadorships are probably handed out to people with no connection to the country all the time. I think Shirley Temple was an ambassador to some random African country back in the day.
Part of the Ambassador's job is to be "the face of the USA". I would guess Michelle Kwan would be good at this. For security and executive functions, promoting and protecting American interests.... hmmmm. I wonder why the Chargé in Belize isn't being moved up to the ambassadorship (maybe she got a bigger post?).
