Of course, ambassadorships are probably handed out to people with no connection to the country all the time. I think Shirley Temple was an ambassador to some random African country back in the day.

Shirley Temple Black was American Ambassador to Ghana during the Ford Administration (maybe under Nixon, too: I forget). There were very painfully few women ambassadors at that time, not to mention Foreign Service career women in high ranking positions.
Part of the Ambassador's job is to be "the face of the USA". I would guess Michelle Kwan would be good at this. For security and executive functions, promoting and protecting American interests.... hmmmm. I wonder why the Chargé in Belize isn't being moved up to the ambassadorship (maybe she got a bigger post?).

And it's always the same - with female athletes, it's like "she lives off yogurt and celery," and with male athletes it's "watch Michael Phelps eat seven pizzas on a race day"

Or it could be that Michael Phelps and Karen Chen have vast differences in their body compositions, and they compete in very dissimilar sports with different physical demands and training protocols, and the caloric requirements to support their athletic endeavors are not the same.

Olympic level women swimmers take on a lot of calories, too. Not as much as the men... different bodies, after all... but certainly much, much more than a reasonably healthy non-athlete woman.

A more reasonable, although not entirely relevant, question is what does Nathan Chen or Jason Brown eat in a day.

For what it's worth, nearly all world class athletes are pretty strict with their diets. A growing number are going entirely plant based in their eating, based on findings from nutritional studies.

Thanks for the information about Black.

My point was that all administrations use ambassadorships to reward donors and political friends. It's a bipartisan flaw in our system.

Edit: On a positive note, Michelle has at least some relevant education and experience, although not directly related to Belize. This is in contrast to a former Ambassador to France, whose chief qualification seems to have been raising half a million dollars for a successful presidential campaign.

Yesterday Amber took part in the official unveiling of Delta's customized Team USA plane that will fly Olympians and Paralympians to the 2022 Games. Hundreds of Delta employees and media were at the event in Atlanta.
At the beginning of the b-roll package embedded on the Delta page above, Amber is seen on stage for an athlete panel discussion (including Apolo Ohno and hosted by Weir/Lipinski). And Amber is heard speaking at approx. 3:20.

Delta now is the official airline partner of Team USA, instead of United Airlines.

I will be truly happy for her if she returns. When she returns I hope that her packaging will do her justice. I would think really great packaging (like Madison Chock's snake charm look) boosts your PCS a bit, don't you think?
I wish she could have Madison Chock help her design her costumes and help with her makeup and hair. It's just a missed opportunity, is all I'm saying.
OTOH I think Karen and Mariah have packaged themselves nicely this season.
 
Currently watching Alysa's Instagram Live and she's said a few interesting things like asking her agent if she could delete her Instagram account and was told no. She also plans to go live on Instagram with Audrey Shin tomorrow.

I'm really confused with what Alysa is doing with her Instagram account. It's not a carefully curated account like, say, Ashley Wagner and Meryl Davis'.

Also I'm a bit shocked she said figure skating fans need to get a life. I get that some ppl go overboard but this sounds a bit harsh. :/

She is unraveling in front of our eyes. Not making the podium at NHK really shook their camp up. She really did improve her skating skills, a lot. She is a joy to watch on the ice and I thought she was having a blast living in Italy. I think she needs to put her situation into perspective. As the top American lady, she gets to go to the Olympics, potentially medal in the team event, if chosen, as I believe only one lady will skate both events, and enjoy that experience. Next year, she gets automatic spots to the Senior GP Circuit and as long as she maintains her non-3A triples, she can have a successful career in figure skating for at least the entire next Olympic cycle. That is, if she doesn’t completely unravel this year. Sending her my positive vibes for US Nationals.
 
Also, my friend who watched Bradie skate at Boston, said that Bradie skated a short program run through and she jumped 3Lz< 3T<<, 2A and 3F< in the run through that was seen. So, the good news is that she is attempting triples. The bad news is that she has under rotation problems and maybe not enough time to fully rotate these jumps by the time US Nationals, is here. Also, stamina is an issue. She is a hard worker and I’m just hoping she has enough time to be fully ready by Nationals. She is my favourite US lady skater.

Lol good for her, they certainly do I agree. She has gone up in my estimation purely on that comment alone!! I like plain speaking.

Alysa is not “unraveling” before our eyes for gods sake. She is a teenage girl who just wants some sense of normalcy to her life. It’s not a crime for her to want to spend her free time not thinking or talking about skating when she’s been training in skating 5-8 hours for up to 6 days a week for almost the majority of her life.

Tbh I’m glad that Alysa seems to puts little to no pressure on herself towards skating as that would be bad for her mental health. It’s good that shes found a sense of normalcy in her prodigal childhood. Whether she continues to compete after fulfilling her Olympic dreams and earning a team medal is probably up in the air, but again, that’s her decision to make.

Also for people questioning the contents of her instagram, it’s just generational. Like myself, Alysa falls into the very normal “Alt, queer, Gen Z” group. If you’re from a different generation, it’s normal to be confused lol

Well from what I've read on here, it sounds like Alysa's Instagram is a very typical Instagram ran by a typical 16 year old and not touched very much by a manager. As long as her father is fine with it, who cares; all I will say is that they should probably be mindful about her posting negative things about the very fans which she derives her base from, figure skating fans.
