I struggle to make sense of this. Why would she prefer a feminine singular pronoun is some contexts, but a plural one in others?

Also, "she" and "they" are both subject pronouns. Using "they" as an object pronoun is not correct.

Example: When the alarm clock kept ringing, I went to wake they up.

She/they can also be referred to as her/them. Also in this context they is considered a singular pronoun. I would suggest looking up “they/them” pronouns. There’s a lot of resources educating on the subject.

In short, they/them pronouns are used when one identifies as non-binary (neither identifying as solely male, solely female, or either). The use of she/they or he/they pronouns usually means that they identify as both that specific gender and as non-binary. To quote one person who also identifies as she/they in an article regarding the topic, “I identify as a woman, but also as nonbinary. I don't feel womanhood tells my full story, but I'm not fully divested from it, either.”

In the case you cite it would be them. I went to wake them up.

Using they/them is grammatically correct, so people can chose that without any problems with language. It just takes a bit of time to get used to.

I feel sad that Tennell is not going to compete and her post was heartbreaking. Good luck to the young generation, Liu, Thorngren and Levito!

I´m both relieved and sad for her. Reading the current interview I was a bit worried about her health situation when it sounded like she still struggled with the injury. It seemed like a very risky situation going for Nationals when she still was in pain now and then. All though it must really be devastating for her after all this hard work, it was the right decision for her. I hope a long rest can help her injury, and if so, I believe she will be back next season and it´s way too early to talk about retirement. Bradie still has a lot to give, and I will miss her a lot at Nationals!

When discussing the usage of pronouns, it is usually best to try and utilize BOTH pronouns listed by an individual equally when referring to that individual. For example, I try to use both "she" and "they" equivalently, as an attempt to be as respectful as possible.

For example, instead of saying, "Alysa likes to go the mall, she finds the clothes aesthetically pleasing to her" you can say, "Alysa likes to go to the mall, she finds the clothes aesthetically pleasing to them."

I hope this helps.

I'm a codger, no doubt, and I am grateful to be prodded along in my understanding of this, but I find "she finds the clothes aesthetically pleasing to them" to be confusing. "Them" could be another party - her friends, her pets, the higher-ups at US Figure Skating. Starting to get used to "they/them" and addressing a single person as a complex/multiple identity. But my question is, why can't someone who identifies as both female and non-binary use "they/them?" "They find the clothes aesthetically pleasing to them" is much less confusing and does not necessarily exclude the "she" side of her identify. It makes it easier to communicate and be understood and shows some compassion to the people trying to decipher these things. I'm all for being respectful, but it's hard to keep up.

Sad about Bradie's missing the Olympics. One of the hardest workers ever - she still has the fire. Stupid, stupid foot.

Actually I find the use of standard pronouns in identifying non-gender conforming or non specific gender identified people to be confusing and irritating. And I say that as a gay men. If they managed to come up with Ms as an alternative to Miss and Mrs why can't they (whoever determines these things) do likewise in this case?

Back to the US Women thread, Nats minus Bradie is going to be less fun for sure. But I have been expecting this and become acclimated to the idea of her absence already. Here's to next year, Bradie!! (insert non existent fizzy drink emoji)

What USFS will do if Gracie Gold manage to finish 2nd place or higher at national ? I was wondering this because I dream that Gracie pull out the performance of her life and manage to make the top 2 at national. What USFS will do if this happen ?
I doubt that will happen (top two) but given how well she did at her last Champ Series, I think she has the potential to do well at Nats. There was some of the old Gracie in those two programs she skated but also a new Gracie that I liked seeing. If she can manage to stay on her feet (skates) and not pop jumps I can see her getting into the mid 180s which would bode well for her next year. But she does not meet the criteria to make any team for the rest of the year as far as I can see. As I said, next year could be good for her.

Nothing much this season, unfortunately. She doesn’t have the senior tech minimums for the Olympics and stuff.

If the summer goes well, the maybe some Challenger Series events in the fall and perhaps a Skate America host pick.

Can bradie still be on world team? I understand the national determine both world or Olympic but she can still be name or even alternate, right? Or even 4cc?

Technically yes, but per some comments on the thread related to her WD from Nationals - from the sounds of her post and the fact she's not even making any kind of attempt at Nationals like the foot is still a problem that its not just her being out of competition conditioning. 4ccs is sooner than the Olympics so that's highly unlikely and while Worlds is 3 months out that does give her some time but not a lot especially if she's still injured and why would the Fed gift her a spot in lieu of people that have actually competed this year, I know the US ladies haven't exactly been setting the world on fire but I don't think it would be fair to anyone if Bradie were to be named to Worlds team without competing this year.

As above, but also Bradie's injury hasn't healed all season likely because she kept trying to practice as soon as she felt better. Bradie is a hardworking queen. She needs to rest. She does not need to go to Worlds.

Very terrible news from Bradie, a dream she worked for so long is crushed

Alysas situation is quite strange. No one seems to be happy and in a positive vibe. We will see.

On the good part: it opens up a small, although very small window of opportunity for gracie gold. At least she already landed clean 3-3.

Lindsay can make a splash and grab a spot

This ladies podium may be one of the most unpredictable of the season. If our Olympic team ends up being Alysa, Karen, and Mariah then I hope they all skate well. And anyone of the could win. But Amber, Lindsay and Isabeau could still make it an exciting competition. I just hope it is not a least of the worst situation.

I think she did it to drive the fans on skating boards crazy. :)

So are the Olympic contenders (i.e. those with an eligible qualifying score) Alysa, Karen, Mariah, Amber, Lindsay, Starr, Audrey, and Hannah? Is anyone included or excluded from that list?

Starr, Audrey, and Hannah don't have any body of work this season. Even they somehow manage to be on podium at Nats, they won't be selected for Olympics team. Paige, Gracie, Starr, Audrey, and Hannah won't be considered for Olympics team at this point.

Alysa is lock while others ( Karen, Mariah, Amber, Lindsay) are fighting for the last 2 spots.
