She skated to the same music when she won Bronze in 2015

Love the music, and got goosebumps on the 2A right on the music. I imagine the program to be even more impressive now!

Looks like Mariah and Karen both landed 3-3s during practice (Mariah landed 3F-3T during her run-through and Karen landed 3Lz-3T twice during general practice). Fingers crossed they can replicate this in competition!

Isabeau, Sierra, and Finley are all missing from their scheduled practice right now, which is concerning...

Apparently Finley WD :(

I'd love to know what Amber and her team are thinking in terms of strategy for Nationals. Of course practices say little about planned program content, but it's odd (to me) that she is trying the 3A today. It seems obvious to me that she should forget the 3A, which she has never(?) landed in competition, and instead focus on going clean with a good 3-3. But maybe she feels that she won't be able to edge out Alysa, Karen, or Mariah without the 3A.

Oh dear :( I fear there will be more, but i´m praying no more will catch covid or WD. Do you know if she tested positive before arrival, or did she test positive during routine test? I guess they have to take a test before they enter the bubble?
She apparently tested positive last week, so I'm not sure if she even travelled to Nashville or why her team waited until today to withdraw.

If Karen or Mariah have a bad day and if Amber manages to land a 3A in both programs she will get Olympic spot. I think. Right??

Maybe not. Amber being on the podium would only bump her to Group 3, which Karen and Mariah are both already in and would stay in even if they finish off the podium. I could see the selection committee choosing not to send Amber given how inconsistent she has been, this season and historically.

Here is a recent article about Karen Chen.

“In a way, I was prepared to be lucky, and I delivered what I could do, and luck just happened to be in my favor.”

This might be my new favorite figure skating quote. Such a great way to acknowledge that others stumbled without being insulting or downplaying the success of others. it highlights the work and effort without sounding cocky.

Every skater should prepare to be lucky!

I mean maybe? Otho, Mirai never landed a clean 3A until the Olympics but it still helped her get on the team. I think the issue is that she goes for it in the SP and it would be better to attempt it in the LP. She doesn't need it in the SP at US Nationals. Alysa's 3A are still all UR and Karen and Mariah might or might not do a 3-3 in the SP. A clean SP with a rotated 3-3 is enough. She needs the 3A in the LP.

Happy that Alysa sees to be doing well. I'm also happy she still has her SP. It's a great program.Mariah landed some clean 3F3T that's good. They are both usually pretty solid in competition if capable of landing a jump. Karen appears pretty strong but I am always sceptical that she will rotate . Jackie Wang isn't noting URs. When I saw her live, the URS were obvious in practice, too. Hopefully, this means she is working on it but it could just mean Jackie is ignoring the issue.

I disagree. I think they would pick the highest finishers from Group 3 in this instance, given that both Mariah and Karen are quite inconsistent themselves. Karen has already been picked ahead of a higher finisher once, so I can't see the USFSA doing that two years in a row (especially if Karen finishes off the podium).

Agree completely about waiting for the LP to attempt the 3A if she does want to attempt it at Nationals.

Yeah, I would personally send the highest finishers from Group 3, but I'm not sure that's what the selection committee would do. Inconsistency and susceptibility to competition nerves aside (which Amber, Karen, and Mariah all suffer from), I do think the selection committee will consider the fact that international judges seem to love Karen and Mariah.
