Finster is a lot younger than he is so I understand where she is coming from especially if she actually has another partnership in mind. With that said I am also disappointed... he is 'only' 27 which in pairs is no longer really on the older side but kind of average :ROFLMAO:, he definitely could have competed for another quad.
Oh, yes, but Kate might wants to compete for two like Kirsten Moore-Towers in 2014 when she broke up with Dylan Moskovitch to team up with Michael Marinaro.

Yeah the comparison did occur to me but to be honest I don't think it is entirely fair. KMT and DM had gotten 4th at Worlds TWICE and 5th at the Olympics; they'd gotten 2nd at 4CCs, they had only not medalled at one or two grand prix events in their whole time together. They were a successful pair that was if anything positioned to become more successful.

Finister on the other hand only spent one year in this partnership; they were not particularly successful internationally or domestically regardless of whether they had potential. I can understand her wanting to make the break now rather than wait and see if maybe eventually they can be successful- for all she knows she already was with her Marinaro and is looking for her Moskovitch, it's impossible to say.

ETA: Sorry I see you actually were making a different point. I do think most people would say what KMT did was a mistake, especially in hindsight, but that's not the point you were making so I am sorry :)

Matej is creative in several directions, and he's apparently making a documentary about his grandparents' and other people's experiences as Ukrainians.
Matej's documentary is complete, and chilling in how the words of his interviewees echo what we are hearing hear today.

Streaming options at www.babababeeskazala.com A Free PBS Learning Media Resource linked to his documentary about Ukrainian WW2 history went live on March 1.

He has also rushed to complete a collection of Ukrainian themed NFTs that he had been working on, and the proceeds from which will now be donated to support aid to Ukraine through the Ukrainian World Congress' Unite With Ukraine fundraiser and/or as direct crypto donations to the Crypto Fund endorsed by the Ukrainian government to send aid to Ukraine.

You can mint NFTs in Solana crypto currency here: https://kozakfoxeverui.vercel.app/

I believe there was another partnership in mind that may have been complicated by last year's Covid restrictions. As to Matej's future partnership plans, we will have to see what happens.

Joshua Santillan and Jessica Pfund ("Joshica") a pairs team currently representing Switzerland and previously representing the US, have retired. Neither will continue with competitive skating:

Awww, I'm sorry to hear this, but after reading their final blog post, I appreciate their characters and their champion perspective. It's wonderful to read about all of the small victories that they cherish and are proud of. Rightly so! They have been so courageous, dedicated, and resilient throughout a slew of setbacks. It's lovely to see how much they appreciate being able to come back and skate for a different country, and to have hit some milestones.

Such a shame that COVID has adversely impacted so many athletes, and of course, all of us as individuals. I truly wish Jess & Josh had been able to experience competing at Euros and Worlds, at the very least. But once again, it is so characteristic of them, as well as amazing, how positive, reflective, and thankful they have always been about their journey!

I do hope they have many opportunities to compete in shows when they are ready.

BTW, is there a video link available of their performance at Swiss Nationals?

There's a link below, but the skater in the video isn't Matej, but a surprise to be revealed.
Thanks for sharing this news. I really liked Kate & Matej together. Matej is a very interesting and accomplished person. I wish him well, and it would be so nice if he was able to continue for a few more years with a different partner.

In the clip that was shared, who is the mystery skater? The body type certainly resembles Matej, but the bearded visage does not.

I so agree.

No idea, although I think the skater is stockier than Matej, but I can't be sure of even that.

I saw a tweet yesterday about Annabelle Morozov (+ dad) seeking to switch country and dance partner. It looks like she might now be skating with Devid Naryzhnyy. He is now following Annabelle instead of Liza...

There is also a rumour that Shevchenko/Eremenko could be splitting. This is at least ~3 Russian ice dance teams in one swoop 💔
Nooooo!!! I love Devid and Liza. This makes me so upset. Same for Shevchenko and Eremenko 😭 So many of my favourite Russian ice dance teams are from the merged Svinin/Zhuk/Morozov camp so maybe they will just do some partner swapping?! So Liza and Eremenko? Annabelle & Naryzhnnyy, Shevchevko and Bagin? God, things are shaping up in Davis/Smolkin’s luck some more if all these new seniors teams are falling apart. It’ll be good for Khubadaireva/Bazin as well.

Yeah I read that Liza might be doing a tryout with Drozd, although I don't know how reliable this is. But I have heard that Ushakova/Nekrasov also split. Maybe the results of russian nationals led many to rethink their goals...at least Skoptsova/Aleshin are staying together. Hopefully Khavronina/Cirisano and Tyutyunina/Shustitskiy will have good senior debuts next season, although they have unluckily missed out on junior worlds and JGPF.

But they literally just started. What on earth.
It sounds like their fed did not enter them for worlds because they had to pull out of euros. He is still making a recovery from covid. They seem quite positive about the future!

Oh really? I used to like Drodz but he always seems to drop partners just like that. I had really hoped he and Abachkina would work out. If Shevchenko and Eremenko split, I would love to see Liza and Eremenko as a pair. What a shame about U/N. So much drama going on with all these young Russian teams. S/A unfortunately really do nothing for me, so I’m not very invested in their partnership….yeah it is a shame that K/C and T/K are missing out on Junior worlds 😣 I don’t speak Russian so please if you read/hear anymore about any of the new partnerships, keep us posted 🙏

This was my initial reaction too! All that trouble to change countries, competing at 2 smaller international competitions, not selected for Worlds, and then done.

However, they seem happy with their decision, and have clearly achieved a lot of things they are (rightfully) proud of. I wish them both the best of luck in their futures, and hope that Josh is fully recovered soon.

Ioulia Chtchetinina and Mark Magyar (Hungarian pairs team) have split. I'm so sad they didn't get their Olympic experience this season 😭
However, they've had a good career together, coming 6th at Europeans this season and 14th at Worlds last season. I'll miss seeing them on the international circuit.

My guess (unconfimed) is that Mark is probably retiring (he's 31 and has a young family)? I really hope to see Ioulia continue and find a new partner (dare I suggest Matteo Guarise, as he said he's looking to continue, while Nicole plans to retire). Ioulia makes no mention of future plans in her post below, but I wish them both all the best in whatever they choose to do next, in or out of skating.

Mark Magyar some years ago in a big interview on Hungarian fed website said that after not having qualified for Peyounchang it was going to be his last chance to make an olympic dream come true. So his retirement after this season is not a surprise for me. I just wonder why they don't attend the worlds and don't want to have a better career ending than sitting out the olys because of corona test. :(
And if Mark is so sure that he doesn't need this worlds why hungarian fed didn't send the other team. :scratch2:
