My oh my, Popov is fantastic! I just love the big jumpers! And he has some very nice skating going on in between as well. 
Is he still young enough for novice nats? Did he try to qualify? I didn't really follow qualification in the "provinces".

I went to confirm his exact bd (can't find atm), and actually ran into a great little interview with Smirnova about Popov and her group!!! Apparently, she was Aratyunyan's student, then Sokolovskaya's and tried quads back in her time and... omg. I am fangirling.

Okay, found it. Popov was born on July 23, 2004. So, he is still counted as a 17 yo this season.

I am working from home tomorrow, so should be able to watch a part of competition on a big screen.

The novice age groups use full years instead of the mid-year cutoff that juniors and seniors use. As this season's upper limit for elder age novices is 2005 and he was born in 2004, he's sadly not eligible for Novice Nats anymore.My oh my, Popov is fantastic! I just love the big jumpers! Happy I just about managed to catch Nastya's skate - looking very tall, but a lot more confident in her jumps than at the last few competitions.

Yes I'm so happy for her! She hasn't skated this well since Senior Nats SP where she got the most appalling low score. I hope this helps her confidence going into the free.Happy I just about managed to catch Nastya's skate - looking very tall, but a lot more confident in her jumps than at the last few competitions.
