2021-22 Russian Local Events

Glad I tuned in though, because Ivanova was skating to Butusov’s Walking on Water, instrumental arrangement. Damn, it was pretty! 🙌❤️ Give the girl all the points!

There's been lots of great music choices in this segment of the competition. :)

I particularly enjoyed Daria Osipova in a lovely Green dress skating to Young and Beautiful 🥰

This Greatest Showman program from Uliana Tretyakova is lit!

Although I should turn in, I've got work tomorrow and Saturday ewwww.

Murav’yeva!

Finally managed to find the time to make some comments on a few select skates from today.

Anastasia and Andrei - They're still a very new team and those costumes are a choice I personally wouldn't have made, but I am already seeing improvements compared to their performance at the Moscow elder age novice championships. Both of them have very lovely lines and good skating skills, now it's just a matter of time until they can polish the pairs-specific elements. Luckily, time is exactly what they have, both of them still have 5+ seasons of junior eligibility.

Maria Mazur - I almost forgot she was competing here, but very well done indeed. She reminds me of Aliona Kostornaia a bit - though that might just be the dress and the hairstyle. 😉😄 She has big jumps, she's fast, has good musicality and nice spins - It speaks of the depth of talent within Russia that she's never made it to Novice Nationals or the Russian Cup. She has made a lot of progress in that regard this season, just narrowly missing out on qualifying for Novice Nationals, and delivering increasingly strong and consistent performances.
And when I'm already talking about big jumps, it might be prudent to mention that Maria has already landed a 4T in training. While I don't think her quad is ready for competitions, we have seen AoP skaters show up to competitions and land quads without any warning before (Sofia Titova's 4S comes to mind), so there's a non-zero chance of us being surprised by Masha in the Free.

And finally, Nastya Zinina. What a wonderful competition she has had. 😍 No quads, but instead a "safe" layout (as it was explained to me this is due to her having to defend a sports category (in this case Master of sports) at this competition), but some nice additions and changes to choreography and spins. Wonderful lines and elegance as always, and I'm definitely seeing improvements in her skating skills and the maturity of her expression over the course of this season. 🥰 Nice to see her Triples behaving again, particularly the traitorous 3Lz, her growth spurt really messed with her jumps for a while. I just hope they'll spend some time during the off-season on her air position, it tends to be a bit lose and she tends to reach her final air position quite late, which might cause her some trouble with under-rotations in the future, no matter the actual height of her jumps.

Eva and Karim:
Not bad for a first ever season in pairs for both. Better matched costumes and speed will do it next time, if Mozer Team decides to keep them together.

Listening to Cheek to Cheek has never been the same again after watching The Green Mile...
