We are, actually, via Section 5(4) of the Citizenship Act:

If you're a high-performance athlete, getting citizenship via this route is no problem. Kaitlyn used it after partnering with Andrew, Piper after partnering with Paul, and Liubov after partnering with Dylan.

Except for perhaps Kaitlyn Weaver, all those athletes would have fulfilled the regular requirements for citizenship, provided they were granted permanent residence when they partnered up and moved to Canada. Three years of residence is the major hurdle.

That said, they may have been granted citizenship under the provision cited, and they certainly needed to have the processing of their citizenship application expedited, as processing times are up to a year at the best of times.

Considering they teamed up in 2019... I am thinking she applied for PR as soon as she could and won't even need to be fast tracked for citizenship.

New Roman video dropped. Looks like it was filmed a few weeks after Nationals. He talks about how he needs more types of quads and how he’s focused his training on those new jumps. I don’t know anyone who’s watched a Roman program and thought “you know what this needs, more quads” lol. I just don’t get it.

More quads is the last thing he needs, that's just going to further kill his (already non-existent) consistency.

With a clean Short (4S, 3A, 3Lz+3Tx) and a clean-ish Free (two 4S and two 3A), he would likely score above 260, which would have put him into at least 8th at Worlds. Like, just look at the top 10 at Worlds this season, a decent number of them have only three or fewer quads across two programs - Including the literal silver medalist (4S in the Short, 4S and 4T in the Free).

re Roman: I watched the video... he does admit that his failure at Nationals wasn't related to not having a second type of quad... so he knows that's not the solution...

What I am getting from it though is that if he is going to have issues with both the triple lutz and not having a quad toe, might as well work on the quad. He said : with 3 quads and 2 3axels, and good skating... that would do it... I am assuming he is implying he wouldn't even bother doing a lutz anymore...

I mean, world champion Shoma Uno doesn't lutz.... and unless the ISU makes a new rule about all types of jumps being included in the LP or even over the course of the SP and LP, which they will never do because some skaters have injuries preventing them from doing certain types of jumps (for instance, Rika only doing edge jumps at first on track for recovery or Nic Nadeau who has never done a lutz since his big ankle injury)... Roman doesn't need a lutz... if he gets a quad toe... I can see that...

He has tried TCC -Orser and went back to Wainman... i agree he needs help... but you know, many skaters just do not find "it"... it being the right space of mind to perform.... but the good news is that it is always possible it could happen at a certain point with perseverance.

I am now watching 'that figure skating show'. I can recommend it. Such fun, and interviews with Fiona as wel as the junior dance champions. Asher Hill is such a good presenter, and gives his guests space!

Re dance : our teams were so good ! Judges will be judges.

I have mixed feelings when I read that Piper and Paul lost their momentum, or missed training and were probably not as ready etc...

1) they didn't lose any competition... They sat out 4CC and Nationals... but it's not like they lost against other competitors... some skaters did sit out 4CC... It happens all the time for different reasons and that doesn't disqualify them from medals and titles.

2) were they less comfortable on the ice than at GPF? Did they perform badly or less well than expected? No. I thought they were just as free and detail oriented, just as fast as usual. They skated particularly well in the FD.

There were some obvious mistakes made by pretty much everyone but the Canadians in the FD.... from little stumbles, to lack of refinement in the twizzles to even a fall.... but Piper and Paul and Lolo and Nik skated lights out... yet, they were passed by performances that weren't stellar.

I will end the rant there because I like to look at the positive.

I also thought that Conrad was unfairly screwed out of skating the LP. He really wasn't that bad in the short. A different skate order would have yielded entirely different results, I think. And I think you're right about Maddie in the LP as well. If she'd had a better short it would have been a completely different result.

I was so totally impressed with Lia and Trennt. Can't wait to see what they can do with more time to work.

With Roman, I think it's all mental. He can learn some more quads if he wants to, but the issue is with him delivering his planned content, not that his planned content isn't enough.

Maddie, Keegan, Piper and Paul, and Deanna and Maxime were obvious choices for WTT...but the remaining two skaters and how they were chosen...I question how much internal political push and pull there is to put one skater ahead of another when all else seems equal from a points perspective. Well at least someone at Skate Canada fixed the spelling of Gogolev but not Deanna's last name.

I know the feeling... at one point, I decided that I would vent a bit when I am pissed off at judging, and then let it go... All I hope for is that our athletes control what they can control = skate their best.

I started following skating as a kid in 1988... Calgary Olympics... so it's been 35 years, starting with Liz Manley's silver, that we get screwed or at least 35 years that I am aware how screwed we get It probably was done before too... Dance has been the epitome of our skaters getting screwed Talk about how many times Bourne and Kraatz were shafted.. I also thought Dubreuil Lauzon and Weaver Poje deserved much better... I am still not over Virtue and Moir not winning the finnstep in Sochi... Petri Kokko agreed And let's not talk about judging scandals, where other countries agree to tank our teams to promote theirs... I love how we can see how judges do their work nowadays and see how biased some are FOR their skaters and AGAINST ours. And as Carol Lane said, "we missed the sale on season bests". Let's not forget that BB also won JGPF and were also shafted on levels... I also believe in Piper and Paul legitimate claims to the title... or at least, being close to the title... If the scores had been close and it went one way or another, then I would believe it was judged fairly... but the way it was done LOL.... If Piper and Paul were screwed, FBS OMG !!!! Especially in the rhythm dance. Like seriously???? At one point, someone from Skate Canada will need to talk to the ISU people and tell them : we may be nice Canadian people but nice doesn't mean blind and stupid... We know what you all are doing... And BTW : let's not talk about losing the 3 spots last year...... in a competition that should never have been a problem for our skaters to earn them. OK... I am done

So yeah... at this point, I just hope to see beautiful skating done by awesome Canadian skaters... I guess that watching 35 years of skating has made my taste for skating very Canadian... I do believe that our skaters are special. Call me biased... that's fine with me. I am biased towards good things including "real dancing on ice" not just acrobatic lifts...

Yes... this is an end of the season intense post, reflecting how tired I am mentally of fighting between my love for the sport and the slaps in the face given by the judges, telling us and to our skaters constantly "that's very nice but yeah... we want other people to win" As it benefits pretty much everyone else, nobody will complain right? Sacrifice the Canadians, they are such nice people

Calgary is my first memory of watching skating as well, lol. I will never be over Virtue and Moir not winning the original dance in Sochi. It was just so totally obvious. That dance was a masterpiece. Don't get me started on Weaver/Poje and Dubreuil/Lauzon missing out by the narrowest of margins. Ice dance in 2023 really felt like a pre-arranged agreement where everyone bartered to get what they want at the expense of the Canadians, who really were actually the best. Call me conspiracy-minded if you like, but the conspiracy has turned out to be true way too many times.

This is something I watch for fun, so when it starts to become a negative experience I have to take a step back. So for worlds I've watched a lot of individual skates just to enjoy the performances, and skipped the competition parts.

for those who don't know me yet LOL ( i am quite outspoken so anyway) I love many sports... after a lot of figure skating i watch sports without judges to relieve tension

So tonight, I decided to watch tennis... Big match for Andreescu who is finding her form after so many injuries... and of course, she exited the court on a wheelchair...

maybe it's all my fault guys... the bad judging, the tennis injuries... blame 4everchan.... Mea culpa.

I hope Bibi gets well soon but it looks like a major ankle injury.
