Or Nikol Gosviani, who switched to Italy in 2015, not long before marrying Ice Dancer / Pairs skater Leo-Luca Sforza. She competed in the Italian Championships once, finished 4th, and has not competed since. (She was entered in a few events after that, but ultimately withdrew from them all).

I really liked Nikol. Because she wasn't getting the opportunities her talents deserved in Russia, I had long advocated her switching to her ancestral homeland of Georgia. I thought her and Elene Gedevanishvili would be a dream team, and could push each other forwards. Although this didn't happen, I was delighted when Nikol did end up getting an opportunity to switch to another country.

With Carolina Kostner and Valentina Marchei both having just vacated the Italian Ladies field, this was a great opportunity for Nikol to re-establish herself. So I was sad when it didn't work out.

Nikol and Leo-Luca are now doing "Cirque du Soleil".

I think there are some coaches of Russian origin in Italy, but I have a hard time believing that this is where Maia would want to switch. Especially after Italy didn't work out for Maria Talalaikina who had to return back to Russia. Italy also has some good female skaters, though inconsistent, like Gutmann, or this season's JGP participant with the huge jumps, whose name eludes me at the moment.

Last we have heard Karina is injured so they haven't been training. At the very least she is back in Perm healing.

Im really interested to see who they will get for Metelkina now that her and Parkman split and he left the Georgian fed completely. It seems like they stashed her at Khrystalny for the time being.

Doesn't seem like old news.. I recall Rose being mentioned at Nationals as Fiona's coach. I posted it in the thread about Bruno Marcotte as people were wondering if he still coached singles.

Sometimes it helps to have coaches with a bit more clout! Also we know Meagan thinks very highly of Fiona.

What a coincidence - we were just talking about Bruno coaching singles skaters! I enjoyed Fiona's skating at Nats. I wasn't familiar with her skating before that. I just knew she's Josee Chouinard's daughter. (I liked Josee's skating as well!).

Vivien Papp officially announced on Instagram that she is leaving the Hungarian federation. She hasn't said where she is transferring yet, only that at her next competition: "next to my name will be the flag of another country, who is grateful that I am coming to them" and that it is a federation "where I will be warmly welcomed and appreciated, and I will actually receive financial support."

Good luck to Vivien with her new fed; I'm so sad for her that she has been forced to seek another country to represent. I look forward to seeing her in competition again, representing a new country who appreciates her talent and wants to support her.

Interesting news if true. Bukin's (life) partner Alena Samarskaya has been the choreographer for Zhuk/Svinin's group for many years now. I wonder if the move has anything to do with all the reshuffling/restructuring that started when Zhuk & Svinin started working with Morozov (which hasn't worked out very well for them, given the number of strong teams they lost in the past couple of years).

Interesting that skate Canadas skater release policy requires a TWO YEAR sit out by the skater/skaters if they were international competitors... yet they write release request letters to other countries and get one year or less with one year or less release times....

I thought ISU had mandated a one year sit-out after changing countries. Wouldn't that supercede Skate Canada's policies?

No, because if the country won't release you, you can't skate. Yaroslav Paniot had to wait *three years* before he could compete internationally for the US because that was what was decreed by the Ukrainian Fed because he was an Olympian.

Exactly. Canada repeatedly writes requests for the release of skaters from other countries to skate for Canada but has a 2 year sit out if you want to leave skate Canada , although they can do exceptions if they so chose, a bit hypocritical of skate Canada I would say...
there worlds entries included 1) Piper released from USA,2) Keegan released from USA, 3)Deanna released from USA and4) Beaudry/Sorenson released from Denmark .....
word has it they are trying to secure a Russian female skater at the moment.... but they won't release any skaters...

Are we talking about Shiryaeva ? Because she has been in Canada with her family for a long time, has never competed internationally and doesn't need a release but Russia is not releasing her.

Cho and Adcock are skating for Korea, Hannah and Ye as well... there are a lot of skaters who are Canadian and skating for other countries like Jason Chan, or Charlotte Lafond-Fournier.... The Armenian dance team at the Olympics was made of two skaters from Montreal. Christina Carreira is Canadian... I mean, there are many Canadian skaters who are representing other countries, especially in ice dance, but also in singles like Edrian Paul Celestino and Mark Gorodnitsky and in pairs, formerly Francis Boudreault-Audet and Mervin Tran (Japan, for the first one, then Japan, Canada and USA for the latter )or Chloe Choinard (for Austria). And since you have mentioned FBS... well Skate Canada didn't prevent Laurence from skating for Denmark, same with Marie-Jade for France... And both these teams had to wait for their release AND couldn't compete for a while when they came back.. I don't see how Skate Canada is being such a one-sided meanie...

I am not liking these accusations that Skate Canada is being unfair when so many Canadians have received their releases and are now (or in the past) representing other countries, and some even winning medals... Is there a skater trying to get out and being bogged down? It's not cool throwing accusations without trusted information. Just saying.
