I was sure they were going to take silver this year. It would be devastating for them to miss 4CC, and especially worlds.
the fact that they didn't w/d earlier to me implies (sorry for the speculation) that they hoped to be ready for Nationals. I wouldn't be surprised if they competed at 4CC... though it's very soon... but worlds are 2 months away. I think they will be there.

Nationals start in a couple hours with the SPs of all junior disciplines (Men are first).

Well this is now a golden (or silver and bronze actually) opportunity for two teams to medal who were not going to. I think Lauriault/Le Gac will take silver, but that bronze medal fight is going to be brutal.

I also think it's no mistake that they've announced this after their biggest competition, Lajoie/Lagha, also pulled out. I think they were going to be passed by LaLa, and now they don't have to worry about that.

I think the acquisition of the hard tricks is behind them now. They have managed to tick all those boxes without injury. I remember when Drew and Camille started working on the triple twist... all sorts of physical problems came...

The only area where they are not stellar are lifts but they still score well with them. They need to improve their choreo though... Lia can shine more. Trennt's presence could be improved. But moreover, there needs to be a better emotional connection between them, their music and the crowd. I like them. i think they are probably the most promising technically. However, I feel that all the other teams in the top 5, perhaps except the really young teams (Kelly Ann and Loucas) have a bit more of a dynamic presence. Even Ben and Brooke, who need to reach out more to the audience have something special with their long lines. I don't know. If Trennt and Lia are going to reach higher rankings, it will need some choreographic/interpretation drastic improvement. Of course, I am saying this based on last year's programs. Quite frankly, it would be completely expected that this wasn't a focus last year. This year though, it needs to be addressed for them to reach higher levels. I think they can do it and I hope they will !!!!
Couldn’t find a thread for Junior Pairs at Nationals. The top 3 pairs did quite well. I wonder how many Canada can send to Junior Worlds.

The fed typically places a lot of weight on having won the national title, so I expect this means Kaiya will get a crack at getting the senior TES minimums. Maybe she and Madeline could have a skate-off at the Challenge Cup.

The men's event at nationals was bleak, hard to say anything else about it.

It is true that Skate Canada values the national titles. At the same time, there is a precedent for sending Senior champions to Junior Worlds instead of senior worlds : Cynthia Phaneuf.

I am not thinking they will necessarily do it... but they have done it in the past. Considering Kaiya is doing YOG... she will miss 4CC. Then, it would be a race to get her minimums... is that worth it ? Maybe. Depends really if Maddie bounces back at 4CC.

Re Wesley, trickier not to send him to worlds though his LP was far from being the one of a champion. Same happened with him at JWC last year... Good SP, terrible LP. To me, he is just not ready to compete at senior worlds... at the same time, the other 3 contenders underperformed or are not healthy. Aleksa is also very Juniorish... as a matter of fact, he did go to junior worlds too last year. What can Skate Canada do with this? Probably like they have done a few times : put the spots up for grabs at 4CC.
