Mens - Wesley, can he move up the standings with his free skate? Hoping he has the best free skate, out of the skaters in his group
Romsky 👏
Wow! I think the fact there was no pressure, helped him today. 11th place 😵‍💫 ; but, his PCS score was so low. Should have been over 40. Is he Canada’s hope now, for two spots?
4S (fully rotated), 3A (just added 😝) and a 3Lz 3T (not in second half, therefore, no bonus; but, good tactic)
I hope he doesn’t put pressure on himself in the free skate.

Also, Max and Deanne were amazing!
🥇 for Canada 🇨🇦
and to do it, in front of the home crowd. Wow!!
I’m in tears 😭 of happiness
Roman should be in 10th, in my opinion, as Kao Mura had a really rough day and I feel like it's only skate order and reputation that put Kao in front. This is the best Roman has skated in several years, and I'm scared to jinx his free skate by daring to hope, lol.

If anyone had asked me to predict who would finish higher in the short between Maddie and Roman, well, let's just say I wouldn't have picked Roman.

Max and Deanna were sublime.

Has anyone seen Mike Slipchuk around Worlds? Usually, he’s everywhere and he’s unusually absent.
I noticed he wasn't showing up on camera, but then thought maybe because it was Worlds and there were more people from more countries hanging around off the ice. Or maybe the ISU were running the show instead of Skate Canada so he wasn't the man in charge. Or whatever. But I even started looking for him off ice and never did see him.

I think if Roman skates well again - the judges will bump his pcs. I think they just need to feel they can trust him to be consistent before they give him the marks.

I would have had Roman in 8th or 9th place. But maybe being in 11th is good in that it gives him a goal to skate well so he can move up. If he was already in the top ten he may feel the pressure more to stay there.

sure... but yesterday, he deserved them... Give him the PCS when he does well... and punish him when he doesn't... I have never liked this idea of PCS will grow with consistency... it's unfair

Karen Butcher is there. Maybe it's Karen holding on to the purse and not sending our skaters out to events... and so, she decided not to send the high performance director to Montreal :)

Of course, I am just being a brat :)

Part of me wonders if SC just made it clear to Roman that making the free was his job. I think they had more hope of Wesley in the top 12. I’m not optimistic that he has the mileage needed to put out a good free.

I will however remain optimistic.

I don't like it either, but it does seem to be what they do. I thought he was magnificent yesterday and deserved to be in the 40s. His depth of edge executed at great speed was not rewarded as much as could have been.

I will use my Ukrainian powers to help Roman get there...

positive vibes i send to you.JPG

I thought they would have asked for more funding.
The Canadian Olympic Committee and Canadian Paralympic Committee are asking for more funding for national sports organizations, which would include Skate Canada. Here is a CBC Sports story on it.

Here is another story for AthletesCAN asking for more funding for the Athlete Assistance Program.

Yup.. I had seen the story...;) but it is good to share and share it over and over

Any chance Skate Canada’s budget will receive a bump up post-Worlds?
With world champions a couple years before the games, figure skating should be identified as a "strong possibility of medal" and get the funding it deserves... but I believe it won't mean MORE funding... I believe it will mean NO CUT in the funding.

I saw this article from Rick Westhead of TSN about Canada Soccer that is interesting in light of the talk of funding for Skate Canada:

In December, federation officials floated the idea of increasing the annual fee for player registrations from $9 to $15. That 60 per cent increase is necessary to help to avoid a bankruptcy filing within the next year, the provincial and territorial organizations were told, according to the source.
Canada’s men’s national team only played one game during two international windows during the fall of 2023. When John Herdman was head coach, he spent some of his time fundraising for his team, finding private donors to cover the cost of flights and games.

Not the exact same situation (Chicken Farmers as a sponsor is better than being told to go to the gambling sector for a sponsor 😬) The talk of fee increases have been mentioned in this thread. And then there's the men's national team only playing one international game in fall 2023. Definitely sounds familiar.
