hmm, Nika's stages are a bit tough, but I won't be surprised if Akatieva ends up withdrawing due to her injury, and Kami will likely not be able to compete until January, so she should be fine.

Have the junior entires been published yet?

Stage 2 is pretty normal but stage 4 is complete death.

I'm not sure Akateva will withdraw considering she felt ready for test skates, even if she didnt do her free skate. And whats that about Valieva? Why wont she be able to compete until January?

True, there's no guarantee that Akatieva will withdraw, but given that she wasn't able to do the fs, I am skeptical as to whether she'll be fully recovered and back in form by this time next month.

As for Kami, I assume she will most likely receive a retroactive 2-year ban dating back to 2021 nats, so she wouldn't be allowed to compete until late December or January

Maybe we should start a pre-match chat in a separate thread as this is a biggie, as we'll have separate threads for every stage as usual.

To be honest, with the massive schism between Russia and the rest of the world, I thought their federation might just give the middle finger and let her skate anyways. :laugh2:

I was wondering what would happen if they do, but I think blatantly ignoring a CAS ruling could get RusFed in huge trouble - not just for figure skating but it might also impact other Russian sports. I admit I don't know much about how these legal things work, but if directly contradicting a CAS decision might cause Rusfed to push further away their opportunity to get back on the international scene, they would make a big fuss about it and complain, but they woudn't risk to actually act on their words. Again, I don't know how this works, but it's something I am really curious about, since they have been very supportive of Kamila since the Olympics. If anyone knows more about how CAS works and how important are their decisions over federations and ISU, maybe start a thread somewhere ?

Anyways to the current topic, I can't wait for this alternate Grand Prix, I'm very curious about Guschina's programs, I heard there was some Twin Peaks involved and I'm here for it !

A few questions on this season's calendar...

1) Did the Jumping Competition/Tournament actually get rebranded as the "Jumping Nationals"?

2) What is the Russian Challenge? Is that the Program Competition? Or is it something different? (And, if it's different, is the Program Competition happening this season?)

3) Am I right that the (Senior) Grand Prix Final is what's listed as "Spartakiad (seniors)," which is happening in February? If so, why isn't the Junior Grand Prix Final being held as part of Spartakiad, as well? Why is it taking place as a separate event one month later?

4) Last season, the Grand Prix events were each branded, e.g. "Velvet Season." Is that not the case this season? They're instead simply being referred to as "Russian Grand Prix Stage 1," etc.?

Exactly. If Russia is blatantly non-compliant with CAS and WADA, for example by allowing Kamila to compete despite whatever the ruling winds up being, they'll basically be eliminating their chances of being readmitted. And not just for figure skating, but for all its sports.

Keep in mind that these rulings generally prohibit all competitive *and* training *and* show activities. Kamila basically wouldn't be allowed to step on the ice for as long as the punishment lasts. Or else she and Russia will be found non-compliant.

Also, I wouldn't assume the punishment will start as of the date she tested positive. She's been regularly competing, training, and doing shows in the nearly two years since then; in fact, she was highest earning skater in Russia last season. So I could see CAS, WADA, etc. saying that this time shouldn't count towards her punishment, and that rather her punishment should start as of the day of their ruling.

That would be more than fair.
