Now that the Intermediate Novices are finished, we finish the day with both Advanced Novice Short Programme segments. However, whereas the other levels today have started with the boys, this time we are starting with the girls. 27 of them, arranged into a group of 6; then two groups of 7; then a resurfacing; then another group of 7.

After this, there will be a group of 4 boys. But since they don't start for another 2h 30m, I will do a separate post for them.

And we start the competition with a Bulgarian girl from the local club, who is wearing the mother of all sparkly dresses! I've never seen so many sparkles on one dress!

And yet, it was not overbearing. I was actually impressed with it.

I know it is only a couple of weeks since the last round of the European Criterium (Skate Helena), but I am getting amazed by how many of these little girls I remember.

Absoloutely love this programme that Skater #5 (another girl from the local club) is doing to a French cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".

When the previous stream went down, I had a look at the chat, and somebody was trying to alert the people running the stream that it wasn't working.

Going by the username, I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been the father of Skater #14, worrying about the possibility of missing seeing her.

And before you ask, no, she isn't Novak's daughter.

Not a bad skate. She goes into 5th position.

We have now reached the final day of the Sofia Trophy. And today is completely about the Basic Novice skaters. We start with 28 younger girls; then after a resurfacing move to 19 middle girls; then another resurfacing takes us to 18 older girls; and finally a group of 3 boys.

This opening competition consists of four groups of 7 girls.

I didn't say it at the time, but I paused the stream and broke away for dinner. Well, the last resurfacing was during the time that I normally eat, so I thought that since we have an earlier finish today, I may as well.

Anyway, I have been running half an hour behind. I just finished watching the Basic Novice I competition, and when I looked at the results, I was delighted to see that the girl that I always keep an eye out for at this level, Chiara Hristova's wee sister Vayana, won!!!



And it was a home win, as she is a member of the club that is based at this rink.

In a way, it's a pity that Chiara wasn't competing here too. Imagine if both had won their respective competitions! But, after having to withdraw from the EYOF after the SP, I am glad Chiara opted to not compete at this event. I want her to make sure she is in tip-top condition for Junior Worlds.

I have taken a real liking to these two sisters, ever since Chiara came onto my radar when she won Junior Ladies at the Tayside Trophy a couple of years ago. Now that I have become familiar with Vayana as well, I think they are both really promising. And I hope that between them they have a lot of success.
