2023 Tallink Hotels Cup

Due to winding back at the start of proceedings and then taking too long eating my cereal during the resurfacing, I am currently running about 14 minutes behind.

Group 3 started with Skater #14, the girl that was comforting Skater #12 when she was crying at the end of Group 2. And although she had a better skate than her team-mate, she was very upset too!

:ghug:

Now, that was a different version of "The Sound Of Silence" to what we normally hear being skated to. It wasn't Disturbed's cover, nor was it Simon and Garfunkel's original. It was a choir singing it. I had never heard that version before, but I was impressed.

The skating from the Estonian skating to it was impressive too! Skater #20 goes into the lead by 5.04 points!

Awww, the Latvian girl that opened Group 4 didn't have a coach with her, presumably because her coach is also looking after the Latvian girl that was following her.

Instead, she had one of her team-mates with her. And each of them had a packet of Haribo sweeties! 🍬

When the scores were announced, Skater #21 clearly wasn't happy, because she stormed off, leaving the other girl sitting there on her own.

Oh, it looks like Skater #22 has withdrawn, because we waited around a long time, and then the Estonian that was starting at #23 was introduced.

Sounds like the coach was away dealing with something bigger than just wishing their next skater good luck!

I hope Skater #22 is OK. And I also hope that Skater #21 calms down quickly, because it seems her coach has other things on their plate.

Doing this reminder post a bit early, because we are coming back from the second resurfacing to a group which contains skaters from two separate Cubs A competitions. Not only do we have the last 4 girls, but we also have the 3 boys. So, it is easier posting it now, at the start of the Warm-Up.

Livestream for the Cubs A Men's FS is now on air.

Here is the link for the livestream:

Now that I have reached the resurfacing, I just wanted to take the opportunity to comment, it is amazing how many of these little Estonian skaters we saw this morning are sitting with the same two coaches.

I don't know who they are, but they are clearly a mother and daughter coaching team. Because they are the picture of each other! 😲

Well, if they push Josefin Taljegård to worlds, does most of us even care or be just happy? I admit to be happy.
Don't think Josephin needs minimums for Worlds as she got them in 2021 and they are still valid.

Well, if they push Josefin Taljegård to worlds, does most of us even care or be just happy? I admit to be happy. Valtter Virtanen has the same situation, but neither of them cannot make big mistakes not even here because of their technical content does not save much. Thumbs up for both to skate clean.
I would be happy! Fingers crossed for both!

Josefin has the FS minimum but misses the SP minimums which she didn´t get yesterday either even with a very clean skate :( So her next and last chance is at Challenge Cup. Her TES yesterday was 31.38, I think it´s the closest she has been all season.

Looking at the protocols from yesterday, she got all her level 4 spins and step sequence, and she did not get any calls on jumps, all though I suspected her toeloop might get a q. So honestly what was missing was more GOE or higher base value. I think she needs to switch her toeloop solo jump with a loop or salchow to be able get higher base value. Apparently a clean skate with all level 4 and 2A, 3F-2T and 3T is not enough even with decent GOE given that she doesn´t jump very high.

She had them but then the raised the minimums again from 30 to 32 points in the SP and 51 to 53 in FS. So then she was suddenly short of the SP minimums.

I'm still behind, and just watched the last skaters in the girls competition.

Apart from the Finn that started the group, all the skaters in the final group were Estonian. The last two girls were both from Anna Levandi's club, so the first of them, Skater #30, had no coach sitting with her. Instead she had a team-mate beside her... and a baby on her lap!!! 👶

Cuteness overload!!!

Both of the girls were back to join Anna and the last skater. But, no baby this time. 😞

Skater #30 finished in 3rd position, while Skater #31 finished in 2nd position. So, Anna got 2 girls on the podium. The winner was Skater #20, who was from the club that had the mother-daughter coaching team.

We had an all-Estonian Top 6. In fact, the top skater that was not from Estonia or Latvia, was in 19th position. That was the Lithuanian girl that was getting so much criticism from her coach.

So, I hope that puts him in his place!

That's it for the Interclub competitions for today. The rest of the day is spent concluding the Seniors and Juniors. Same order as yesterday. And we start with the 15 Senior girls, who are in three groups of 5, with a resurfacing after Group 1. (So, that is two consecutive groups that have had a resurfacing on either side of them).

Livestream for the Senior Ladies FS is now on air.

Just as a final epilogue to the Cubs A competitions. The middle of the 3 boys was from Anna Levandi's club. And sitting with him for getting his scores were Anna, another coach, and the skaters that finished 2nd and 3rd in the girls competition.

He won!

So, you could say that Anna got a 1-2-3 in the Cubs A competitions! ;)

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Right, now onto the Seniors for me.

But according to her ISU bio, she's got TES 32.98 in SP and 57.85 in FS, so that's enough even after raising the minimums.

Was it season 20-21 or 21-22? 20-21 will not be counted any more. Corona season was an exception. But usually only current and one season before will be count.

Oh, you are right, she got 32.98 there. But i´m pretty sure she doesn´t have the minimum and I had to check, apparently they decided that results from 2020/21 season does not count towards minimum scores this season and revised the communcation

7. ISU Figure Skating Championships 2023 – Minimum Total Element Scores The Council determined that the Skaters/Couples participating in the ISU Championships 2023 must have reached the following Minimum Total Elements Scores during the ongoing season (2022/23) or the two immediately preceding seasons (2021/22 and 2020/21)

Page 4 in Communication Nr. 2488

That must really be frustrating that she would have had them if 20/21 season did count.

That was different. Anastasija KONGA (LAT) was skating to "The Greatest Show", but rather than wearing the red coat that most male skaters wear when skating to this, she wore a dress of a similar basic design, but in navy blue.

It looked well!

And she skated well too! She goes into the lead in both the FS and overall. And by decent margins too! By 8.41 points in the FS, and by 8.52 points overall, both over Jogaile AGLINSKYTE (LTU).

Oh, Fanny! :drama: That was not a great skate.

I love "Bang Bang" by Nancy Sinatra. But, I don't think the combination of songs worked.

I guess the Lindfors family honour rests on the shoulders of Matias now. I didn't see him last night, because the stream went private when I had 3 girls left to watch. But, I see he has a 1.39 point lead. He's got a fight on his hands to win, but at least there is a large gap to 3rd position.

Ouch! Fanny goes 4th in the FS and overall.

Right, that's me starting the Group 2 Warm-Up now. I was hoping to be caught up completely, but not quite. Should be caught up for the boys, though.

Oh, I see the middle skater in Group 2, skater #8 Anastasiia GOZHVA (UKR), has withdrawn. Hope there's nothing wrong.

Oh, I see now. I was sure the 20/21 season can still be taken into account... That's annoying they revised their own document to the disadvantage of skaters...

It has always been so that current season and and onexseason before hss been accepted after the minimum TES came to use. But last season they accepted two previous seasons because there were so few international competitions at 2020.

I just had a funny moment. I was enjoying Amalia ZELENJAK (EST), and was thinking "This sounds like Evanescence". But, I wasn't sure it was. So, I looked up her ISU Bio, and saw who was singing it and thought, "Ach, for goodness sake! I saw this programme and commented about Tarja Turunen quite recently. I wonder what competition it was".

So, I did a search for a post by me containing Tarja's name, and I got two results. One was about Amalia's FS at the EYOF last month, but the other was from October 2015.

It was in a thread where people asked for help in identifying songs. I had posted a link to the Advanced Novice SP by Svetoslava RYADKOVA (BUL) within the archived livestream of that season's Denkova-Staviski Cup, and asked what the song was. And I mentioned in the comment that it sounded like the sort of song Evanescence would record.

Somebody replied with the answer. And guess what. It was exactly the same song that I just heard Amalia skating to!

See, I'm consistent in thinking that it sounded like an Evanescent song. ;)

Although, I am not consistent in my feelings towards the song. I loved the song the first time I heard it in 2015; I wasn't sure about it at the EYOF last month; and I loved it today!

Good skate. She goes into the lead of both the FS and overall.

And it took me so long to write this that I am have now seen a Warm Up and 2 more skaters, both of whom went ahead of Amalia! :drama:
